Users repeating "thank you" phrases

i always give thanks when I win a giveaway, I do say thanks for joining only if the GA is a part of an event or if it's a game from my wishlist or a crazy-good-rarely-given-away game

is thank you becoming a "bad word" these days??
sometimes i think today standard have become reversed
i still say thanks IF i win (unless creator say otherwise)

as much it's annoyed you (by getting thanked and more counter in your inbox), you can write "pls dont say thx" and that's enough
if they still do and suspected a bot, just blacklist them
suspending is too much

I always said thank you before, but then people here decide to attack people doing that and blacklisting i stop, feels bad not saying thanks for the oportunity anymore. But i always say thanks if i win, something that i dont always receive when they win my giveaways...

Sure there is bots, but bots are everywhere these days.

Hitting the "Mark as Read" button is pretty easy (perhaps I'll write a bot to do it for me), so I don't care who comments what.

just create high level giveaways. you will filter out 95% of all bots.

When I was new, I saw that people were asking people not to say thanks unless they win, so that's what I do, but it wasn't until I started making several of my own GAs that I found out just how ANNOYING it is to log in after only a few hours and have 25 messages, and all of them are "thanks for the GA", but I can't just mark all messages read, I have to look through all 25 to make sure there's nothing important (for example, "Hey, I won this GA but the key didn't work"). However, I'm not sure how you would go about detecting whether it's a bot or just somebody with no originality. For example, when people thank me for winning a GA (not for entering it), I usually respond back congratulating them... however, I recently noticed that like 90% of the time the message is exactly the same (even though I typed them each, at completely different times), and sometimes the only difference is whether I said "Grats on winning" or "Congrats on winning".

I do use the "Autojoin for SteamGifts" add-on (in fact, that's how I found this place, I saw the add-on, was like "What's that?" and came to check it out), but I ONLY use it for the "infinite scroll" (no more click next page, wait for it to load, etc), and the part where it moves the big green Join button to the front page. There are certain GAs I know for a fact I want to enter, so I like not having to enter the page to join it. If there's any description, it'll also get shown on the front page, but only AFTER I click Join. Then I have the ability to read it and choose to unjoin. When I'm unsure whether it's something I want (or I DO know I do NOT want it, and want to block it), I still need to open the page for it.

I did see in the options for that add-on that you can set it to automatically add a thank you message of your choice when you click the join button, so that's at least one source of the spam comments. Fortunately, I never activated it (and even if I had, the first time I read a description saying "please don't thank me" I would have turned it off), but I can see how new people wouldn't know any better and think they're doing a good thing by thanking people. It (normally) still requires a minimum of "human interaction" (at the very least, they need to click the green Join button)... however, there IS an option to automatically join certain types of GA (for example, anything you have wishlisted on Steam), but it also says right next to the option that this can cause your account to be banned, so anybody who uses that option has no excuse if they do get discovered and banned. That one, I 100% agree people should be banned for, but I'm a bit mixed on the "auto thank" option.

ESGST has a bunch of stuff to make things easier. It's not a bot. But I do have it set up so that when I mark a GA as "Received" it automatically pops up a window where I can enter a comment on the GA, I also have it set up so I can pick from a multiple-choice menu what comment to post "Thanks", "Thank you", etc.

Idk, I always make sure I say anything but it. Like make it a conversation about it or about them. While adding your thanks. It is kind of like starting a conversation without saying how are you 😂

I remember I used to say "thank you" or even "hvala puno" (that I liked much) just like a bot. Why? Well, I was just reading what other people used to do, it was just like netiquette for me, so i tried to adapt myself to the context. Months after I discovered about existence of bots, that I never even tought of.

So, no, I would never ban someone for that. Like for how the law works (or should work, imho) IRL: it is better a free guilty, that an innocent in prison.

For gratitude, I always whitelist the giver and say thanks and inform that the key works if I win.
Being notified over and over while GA is open is odd actually, since there is the number of comments in the created GA for the giver to read if he wants.

Depends a lot. It could be dangerous(i mean, banning people wrongly).

SG can be tricky. Some years ago there was a wave of people who blacklisted whoever didnt coment, then later a wave of people who blacklisted anyone who commented. I recall at one point i just stopped caring.

Nowadays i only comment/thanks when i feel like it, and its rare now for me to copy paste but i have done so at least once past year im sure. At one point i when the whole blacklisting for comments/no-comments was running i was pasting messages left and right.

Also at one point i was using a signature in my comments, some emoji-ascii thing, wich ended up making a lot of thanks looklike copy-paste i guess.

I dont paste any thanks anymore but i cant help but imagine some do

i mostly just write one thankyou and copypaste it if im entering more than one raffle, i usually then write another thankyou, but i am not very creative with different ways to thank someone in a language i'm not the master of ;w;

ngl it gets spammy at times but i can't blame people for being polite

an alternative solution could be just adding a thank you button/widget, similar to those social media 'like' buttons.

I feel like thanks is unnecessary (just bc of sheer number of giveaways here, it's just not practical) and does come across as a bot (yeah, dude, I don't think you just manually typed 58 identical comments in the span of 1.8 seconds) - unless you won of course. But I do try to leave a relevant comment if the GA host is asking a question or otherwise initiates a discussion in the GA description.

Also you can always do forum giveaways with masked links, or puzzle giveaways, or whatnot

i think my way works pretty well, no unnecessary thank yous :)

On some days, I just don't have the time to write whole sentences that are related to their questions. So I write a thank you or use my pinned messages (WIN+V on Windows) and I just copy and paste that. People write to thank you robotically because as that being the case, they don't just want to ignore your giveaway and drop you an act of appreciation.

You may think they are bots, but if you get to inspect their accounts it does take some time to join giveaways. I personally am in love with my new ESGST tool that simplifies my work 10x faster.

Don't take the thank you personally, people just feel that they are ungrateful if they just joined and said nothing. If you reply to them and they don't engage in a conversation, blacklist them if you must, but yeah. That's just my opinion. 😄

fwiw, I initially misunderstood on the Create a New Giveaway page, "You're able to create up to # additional gifts based on your giveaway feedback." to mean that I needed to leave more comments on other people's giveaways before I could create more of my own. This led me to spamming thanks for a few days before I realized my mistake, which likely resulted in my first handful of times being blacklisted.

If often thanks people that do really big giveaway for games with high value and in my wishlist i will 100 % keep for myself if i have them (Chronicon / A Hat In Time / Crash / Spyro ..) [Only 1 Times if the creator create multiple ''big giveaway'']
Also rethanks people that make discover some good game that i never hear about, and maybe never hear about without a people give a key for it on sg.
