As it seems all of the games are paid. You have to own TF2 and Dota 2 'premium' in order to get drops. So you'll have to pay for these free games to get cards anyway, lol.

But it means you HAVE to buy/trade cards to complete a set. Guess it depends how many people want to sell vs how many people want to buy.

yeah they'll see how much money they are making with the fees on the market and then they'll decide if and how to change something

Multiple accounts to get all the TF2 and Dota2 cards. Multiple accounts to get all the CS:GO cards since it's free weekend. I can't see the TF2 and Dota2 rising too much in price because most of the people who sell will probably have multiple accounts.

yes you can idle for the cards.
go into the game in single player without bots and start the map.
then just click alt+tab and you can work on your pc like usual while waiting to get all the drops.

Not at all, ppl report getting cards for having the game idling on the main menu in the background while doing other things, even playing other games.

You don't have to grind, you don't even have to properly launch the game. Just leaving the One Source Game at a time message on will do the trick.

1 decade ago

I assumed weekly as well, same as tf2 item drops.
Actually, I still assume weekly, it doesn't make sense to limit them and have them used in crafting.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

it'd decrease the value of the cards too much, and make trading pointless. as it is they're only worth like 1$ a piece. when it opens to everyone. gg.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

At least a monthly reset would be interesting, none is kinda brutal.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They did it to make the steam community a bigger part of steam. So non resetting card drops is a logical step, so people who want badges have to TRADE their trading cards with community members.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Arent you supposed to get 1 card per 20 hours in a game? I had a pool of 5 card drops for TF2 (102 hours) and none for dota2 since I only played it for 45 minutes.

So at last it's only profile backgrounds that we'll have to buy in real money as we can only get up to half a set by ourselves ? Or in the better cases trade half of a set for another half-set from which we have the other half to complete the set and get the background we'd want.

Seems more shitty than the first impressions.

This isnt clear at all srsly..

1 decade ago

I have no clue what you're trying to imply by that.

I never said anything would be devalued, I was celebrating because I'd get tons more cards than the average user.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But getting tons will of course devalue it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If there were more idlers than legit players, it'd be possible, but since you only get half the required cards you'd need a 1:1 of idlers:legit for everyone to complete their sets.

Unless of course no one has any interest in the cards and then the market would obviously become flooded.

1 decade ago

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah... what if someone have 10 acounts with TF2 and dota2?

1 decade ago

You only get cards from TF2/Dota if you bought something from the ingame-shop (or if you bought TF2 before it was free)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

isnt it only 5$

1 decade ago
Permalink

More like 40 cents each actually. But you do have to put 5$ on the wallet. Also it's being rumoured that you'll get a drop every 9$ spent.

8 for Portal 2.

Thanks, but i meant how many cards can drop if you play a game, until you don't get any more cards from playing that game.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can look it up under badges. 4xtf2, 4x Dota2, 4x Portal 2. Even if I have to admit: I droped 5 tf2 items so there was a reset. Also: you can drop dupes.

1 decade ago
Permalink

1 decade ago

50% of the total (rounded up).
i.e. 3 for Don't Starve, 5 for TF2, etc... etc...

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This doesn't make sense, I think the person was misinformed.

If this was the case the supply of cards will run out far too quickly as you need a lot more cards than you can get on your own to level up even to level 1 of each badge.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Somehow, I think that's the point. They want people to buy those cards through the community market so they make a cut out of it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well that's one day of making some money. After that the cards are gone and they won't get any money anymore.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They'd make a fuckton more if they had it reset. Sure they'd get a smaller amount per sale but they'd get thousands and thousands more sales.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Or they can sell them in the Steam store as well. Get the momentum going with a free teaser, then have the supply dwindle until you can only buy them directly from Steam.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

On the one hand its hard to deny that there wont be a lot of cards at one point (if this information is correct) on the other hand it forces players to TRADE their trading cards (those sly dogs ;) )

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It should reset once crafted a badge, for that game. That would make more sense.

E.g. Player 1 trades cards to Player 2

Player 2 crafts a badge
Player 2 gets some from the reset
Trades to Player 1 so he/she gets the badge as well

(Assuming that is an ideal case)

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Sorry all of you who idled for cards before you were level 10!

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If someone was below 10 (at least a few levels though) when this thing started what would it matter if he idled the cards or not? Waiting for new levels from steam events will take months if not years and things will change.

And if you were supposed to level up by cards you'd use the ones you got dropped, so still no level 10 cards dropped.

Unless, of course, someone would buy the whole sets before dropping so he would start idling with a small chance to get Foils. Then again I doubt that could be profitable as the chance is small and the cards are a bit expensive when it comes to a whole set.

1 decade ago
Permalink

"There is no extra benefit to having foil cards or foil badges aside from their rarity."

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That is a pretty huge benefit when you can sell them on the market for quite a bit :p

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But there's 5 levels per set, right? :o That makes these buying cards then and not trading cards.. I'd hoped it at least resets after you craft a badge set.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

5 levels per set only till level 10. From level 10 to 20 its 2.5 levels per set, and so on.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

He's means badge levels, not player levels. Each crafted badge can be upgraded 5 times. So you need 5 complete sets of game cards for a level 5 badge.

1 decade ago

So if I got a badge, I need to buy cards to update it?
