Steam download speed.

I had the same issue last night with steam too. I'm thinking that depending on what steam server you're hooked up with you're speed will vary especially if they're doing maintenance.

Funfact: downloads usually show in mega/kiloBIT per second, steam shows mega/kiloBYTE per second. 8Bit= 1 Byte, so if steam shows 100kbps then it actually downloads at 800kbits which is not too far from your promised speed. I wouldnt consider it unusual to only get half of what was promised.

or steam is jsut being slow, try selecting a different server to download from.

Skyrim and MW3. Poor servers. :3

Go to steam settings and set your download location to a more remote, less populated area. This will often give you more speed as there are fewer people downloading from those servers.

Interesting, maybe it depend of country. I'm from Poland and in last time i don't have any problems with speed.

I get 2.4 MB/s usually.

Just downloaded DX:HR with 6.5MB/s. I think it's something wrong on your side, or just a temporary issue with Steam request servers.

It's been up and down lately.

It helps when your ISP hosts a content server.

Being downloading at around 800kb/s to 1mb/s on my extremely slow internet connection (1Mb which usually just sticks to downloading at 110kb/s tops), so i cant complain here.

yeah i get around 3mb per sec. but on skyrim when it came out, it tok some time as steam seemed to be going on its last legs

2.8 - 3.9 mb per sec is my avarage speed
