Rocket League and Portal 2 with Steam hardware purchase

Came home today to see that Rocket League has been gifted to all who have pre-purchased a Steam Controller or Steam Link device. If you already owned this game before today and have made a hardware pre-purchase, check to see if you got an additional copy in your gift inventory.

It seems Portal 2 too, according with the Steam announcement. You receive gifts if you already own them in your library for both.
And it seems it is for any Steam hardware purchase

got my gifts over night. very nice move. i had both games anyway, but at least rocket league has some decent market value. :)

They probably aren't selling as much hardware as they were hoping. I already have Portal 2 and almost all of my friends have it, but Rocket League is ALMOST enough to push me over the edge for a $50 steam controller. But now that I'm in college I'm using my laptop which is probably powerful enough for it but it'd be pushing it. It gets crazy hot already.
