As I found out that the number of games in my account have come closer to 500, I asked the help of our dear friends from Steam support to have a couple of games (that I will never play anyway) removed from my account.

The first few games that I asked to remove were the crappy indie games that were given away in some sites, i.e. Final Slam 2, Afterfall Insanity EE, Dino D-Day, Frozen Hearth, Gun Monkeys, Enclave, and Woodle Tree Adventures. Then I proceeded to crappy games that were included in bundles, which included The Ship (best part that the game count dropped 3 places) and Dream Pinball 3D.

And then finally, the most painful of them all, asking to remove some games/packages that I actually paid good money for (welp).

So far, 11 games have been removed, and my latest request will remove another 20+ games if successful. But do you want to know about the best part in all of this? It was the only time when Steam support actually responds within 24 hours! Amazing.

So yeah, have you guys had any games removed?

EDIT: I am aware of the new Steam feature to hide games, and as a matter of fact, I have about 100 items in there. I just feel that it isn't enough for me, so I had to remove some of those games.

EDIT 2: Got a reply from Steam support and got my latest request done. Game count is now down to 465. Yay

EDIT 3: Say what you want about me clogging up Steam support, but it's not my fault that they have priorities to what tasks they should do first. Besides, I only talk to one person anyway (or that's what I've been led to believe) by just reopening my previous tickets.

I've never had games removed but I have like 20 hidden from my game library. I only remember I have them if I check my game list from my Steam profile. I just farmed the cards and left the games to rot.

Ever since Steam beta intro'd the option to hide games, my hidden games list kept growing steadily. I think I now have about 100-ish there, which includes some games that will be removed soon.

Why would you want to have LESS games? Especially that now you can just hide whatever games you want.

Yeah, I know it doesn't make sense, but I guess I just really want to have the games that I'd actually want to play. I dunno, I guess I'm just that kinda guy :D

Reason #2542 why people who need Steam Support can't get through.

Funny you just shortened the list of people eligible for booster pack drops. Thanks for that, i guess. But for everyone waiting for a response from Steam Support for something worth contacting them in the first place, blame this guy.

I'd never remove a game - even a crappy one - why would you do that? you deny yourself possibility of free monies ;p Any game, even most crappy one can get cards added to it which you can just idle for why doing something else. Or get PlayFire rewards just for launching it once. Also e-peen ;p

Well, I actually got the trading cards before I asked steam support to remove the games, so I don't really mind lol

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

still - some games may not have cards now, but may get them added in future patch (happens all the time), PlayFire Rewards, free Steam XP for your Steam level - with option to hide games now there is nothing you can gain via deleting games from your library, only things you can lose by doing so.

Why would someone want a crappy game just because it might get a few cards worth 5 cents in the future? Quality over quantity.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

because one of them may be foil worth quite a lot more for example. Also other things I mentioned. Also considering the fact that it costs you nothing and can potentially grant you something I see no reason why would someone not want it, especially if removing this crappy game will require much more work - contacting support, writing a ticket, waiting weeks for answer - all that for something that does not add you anything and may potentially get you something if you keep it.

A real collector doesn't care about quality, he just wants more. (Or was that just a hoarder?)

I guess over time I turned into a game hoarder, adding anything I don't have to my library.

the worst are these people who put entries to a giveaways just because they don't have the game yet while other people would be actually interested in playing them, what a waste of giveaways

<pets his huge game count>

If I discover a game that is really garbage in my library, I just mark it as such (and hide it) and move on. Really see no point in actually removing games from an account.

Not yet, but i will delete a few of them which came in bundles and i wasn't interested, and as soon as i get the Steamcards.
The only problem is, will the other games from those bundles get removed too?
Will i lose my +500 badge and the EXP i gained with it?

That's why i'm still thinking on what games i will remove.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Steam would only remove games from packages with a single key, so you should be fine if you were thinking of HBs with keys that were redeemed individually. And yes, unfortunately you will lose the EXP. However, since there should be a whole lot more great games in the future, the EXP should be back anyway

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I want my library to be full of great games, And when i scroll down from the top, I only see the games i like to see. and the "hidden them" solution doesnt really help me cuz I know they're there and I just dont see them! :D
Unfortunately, I did add some crappy games (ninja'ed or was included in a bundle which was not seprated) in my library. But when I contacted steam support, they told me the game will only be deleted from the library, everything in steamcommunity will be remined (such as achievements, the hours you played the game, the game itself in "all game" or "recently played" tabs...)
And if i want to delete a game which added more than one game (like some humblebundles or keys), the whole package will be deleted.
So it's basicly the "hidden them" option except there's no turning back. So I just forgot about all of it and let those game exist in my library, like a wound that teaches me the lesson of not adding crappy games.

I agree, as I did have to make some sacrifices and ultimately decided on having that package removed even if it had one game I was at least interested in. But I'm still glad that Steam did intro that feature to hide games, though.

I've had russian retail copy of Portal 2 activated on my account, and it was region locked. So I've asked support to remove it, so I could by region-free one.

As of your case - well, I guess you don't have anything more important to worry about, if having these games bother you so much that you need them removed.

i can see removing games you got for free, but removing a game you paid for....thats just crazy. i dont get why its a big deal anyway. they are just in a list what is the harm in leaving them there or hiding them or just doing nothing.

Yeah, I know it doesn't make a lot of sense, but I guess it's kinda like buyers remorse of some sort. I did only spend around $5-$7.50 (not sure, really) for those packages all in all, so it's not that much of a loss for me :D

Never did that and won't do it ever. Why would I even want such a thing? I'm well over 300 games myself and I don't mind. I've seen people with more than 3000. Owning lots of games is the damn point, even if one doesn't have enough time to play them all. I consider all of the games in my Steam library(crappy as they may be) to be my property, even if I got them for free. I played Enclave and didn't think it was that bad(although it wasn't very good), so I don't think it's any shame having it in the library.

If a game was truly so bad I'd be ashamed having it, I always made sure not to activate it...EVER. Like in the case of Damnation. Funny thing, I actually found a sucker who traded me King's Bounty Warriors of the North Valhalla Edition(before it was bundled) for my copy of Damnation and my extra copy of Enclave(which I got from a bundle after the free promotion expired), so you can never know. Better than to activate it and then let it go to waste by having it removed, don't you think?

I removed "Marvel Puzzle Quest" as it was my most played game and I hate the game with a passion, so I wanted it off my toplist. There was just no way a lot of other games would reach 300 hours enough to push it down. I quit the game after a patch broke the gameplay. It just made me angry to play a game where my hero gets instakilled by cheating opponents and then having to wait over 3 hours to be able to use it again... or pay cash to instantly play! Gee, I wonder why the opponents cheats so much when you can pay to play longer if they kill you...

I voluntarily delete some games from my library. You need to make a ticket to support and wait to respond to you, first, will inform you about delete the games, and you need to confirm after that if you really want to delete them.

Here is the info about deteling:

I can assist you in permanently removing the game(s) from your account. However, the game(s) will not be refunded and will not be accessible for future use.

Please note, any bans incurred in a game you are asking to be removed will remain on your account. The bans apply to your Steam account, not the game itself.

If the game was purchased on Steam and you repurchase the game in the future, your Steam account will receive the same CD Key it was initially assigned.

If you registered a game with a CD Key and we remove it, the CD Key will no longer be valid and it will not be redeemable in the future.

Any achievements or playtime accrued on the game(s) cannot be removed from your community profile, and if you request a beta version of a title to be removed from your Library the full version of the game will also be removed - we have no way of only removing betas without removing the full game.

If any of the games that you wish to have removed were part of a game package (such as complete packs, Humble Bundles, or separate entries for different parts of a single game), the entire package will need to be removed. Packages cannot be split in any way. If you choose to proceed, you will need to provide the name of the package that contained these games rather than the names of the games contained in the package.

Please let me know if you would like to proceed with the removal of your game(s), and update any of your listings that were registered as part of a package.

If you have any badges, or cards for the games that you want to delete, those will remain in your account.

Yup, got the same info from Steam support. As I've mentioned above, Steam support was surprisingly fast to respond (relatively), and removed the games right away.
