Does fallout 3 work on windows 8

It's not optimised since the graphics engine they use was made in 1998/99, and for Fallout 3 they only hack-patched it to work on NT 6.0 kernel (Vista). later they supplied Obsidian one that was updated for 6.x.
The not optimised only means it uses only one core: the core engine itself, along with the scripting engine cannot even comprehend the fact of more than one CPU core existing, so CPUs with bad one-core performance (most non Core-iX Intels and AMD FX chips under the 8000 line) run it slowly; GPU does not matter for this game since it was designed to run on Voodoo cards originally (something some kids today don't even know what those were).

yes it works. If I am not mistaken, it is possible you need to download something. I dont remember the name of it. it has Windows in the name. It could be this (Games for Windows Live) http://www.xbox.com/nl-NL/live/pc/downloadclient

If you get GOTY edition you wont get a key from steam, just download a Games For Windows Live disabler since you don't need it in any way for Fallout 3 (except if you want achievements but meh)

Yes, it works on Embedded Windows 8.1 industry pro for me. Just to be safe I got a mod off the Nexus, but it Haven't had any problems.
