1- Do private giveaways give contributor value as usual?

2- Is it 2 the minimum amount of players on a private giveaway?

3- If the answers to the questions above is yes, does that mean a small group of 3 friends can earn contributor value for free whenever they decide to buy the same game?

(Suppose me an my 2 friends buy the same game as gifts, I create a private giveaways for it allowing only my 2 friends to enter. They may do the same or not. No matter who wins, we will mark the gift as received and everyone redeem its own gift. We earn contributor value for giving games to ourselves and the games we "won" will indeed show up on our accounts thus not raising any suspicion. And if nobody checks our accounts, suspicion is not a problem at all and we could simply create numerous fake private giveaways, always marking them as received thus raising one another contributor value infinitely)

Did I get anything wrong? Is this doable? How does Steamgifts prevent this from happening?

1 yes (i know for sure because its debated fairly often(basically whenever cv comes up) especially considering the required 1:1 gifting groups)

  1. Yes and the amount of CV earned from it follows the same rules applied to public giveaways.

  2. There can be a giveaway with 0 or 1 entry. Now that is a special case since the contributor will not receive any CV from it, regardless if it's bundled, newly released, or Skytix: Forrim.

  3. You can do that and it's not against the rules given you still follow all the basic ground rules of SG.

Lol, no. CV farming through cheating the system is entirely NOT allowed. How does it even make sense saying that? -_-

Yes, currently contributor giveaways aren't substantially fair. You can create giveaways for a small group of persons and so get more chance to win a public giveaway. Anyway, some changes are coming. Cg is working on it.

The answer is yes to all three. In fact there is one person on sg who has almost $6000 CV from doing this. Let's just say he's not very respected around here.

This is a sting operation isn't it? YOU'RE WORKING WITH THE MODS! WHY IS EVERYONE AFTER ME‽

What reason do people have to exploit to get over $5000 CV? Although, I just loaded up the last 100 pages of closed giveaways and there wasn't a single one - wow, it's been a long time since one was made.

If caught, I'm pretty certain that bans for pulling this sort of stunt are permanent.

Even for those with no sense of right and wrong, there are still fairly compelling reasons not to do it.

This sort of profile activity looks deeply suspicious, and will raise a lot of questions if you win the giveaway of one of the site's more observant members...

Most of the most active members on this site (including the highrollers, as you call them) are against the CV system in the first place.

Although, I must disagree with your private giveaway point. A lot of private giveaways are for forum only giveaways or puzzles and are open to all members of the community.

When you say "not repeatable", you mean for the same game, right? But one could do it a few times with different ones, preferably the most expensive titles and that would be enough to get a decent CV (further boostable by bundle games). No need to get 5,000 CV since most GAs with minimum CV require much less than that.

Anyway, I agree that private giveaways are no substantial contribution to community. Earned CV should be somehow proportional to number of entries.

This is a great example of why the CV system is stupid xD

No matter what kind of system you put in place for ANYTHING, someone will find a way to exploit it or take advantage of it.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

Unfortunately, 70% of the community disagreed last year.

Good for them. This is my own opinion. Also, I wasn't around last year.

And the majority of those votes are most likely people who had earned high CV anyway. You cant prove otherwise. :)

Please, most wish they had high CV. Most higher CV people (me not included) seem to want an end to the system.

Most of the people with high CV that I know want to end the CV system. Besides, your statement is kind of ridiculous - I'll assume here that high CV is $2000 or over. Just look at the numbers. Over 7,000 votes for yes. You think there are really that many people with high CV? There are maybe a couple hundred people at max who have over $2000 CV, hardly a majority.
