Which type of "smartphone" do you prefer?
Also find on youtube - IDIOTS . But this is only for fun, nothing personal.)))

Used to be Android supporter, then I received a hand-me-down iPhone 5 and now I can't go back to Android. I prefer the touchscreen hardware on iPhone as it's more responsive. My suggestion : Don't believe in paper specs but try the phones out in real world usage.
If you get a chance to try out display phones at a store, try dragging your finger back and forth very fast on an iPhone vs Androids. The Android will have a noticeable lag, no matter how slight, even on the flagship Samsung Note series for example.
As for backups, iCloud does an amazing job. I factory reset my phone last time because I wanted to send the phone in to change the battery (yeah I know Androids have detachable batteries etc, but it was the iPhone's first battery change in 2-3 years, whereas I had to change my Android's battery after the first year, and it needs another battery change again the year after that, which I didn't bother), anyway after getting my phone back, turned on the phone, entered iCloud account and the phone asks if I would like to restore from iCloud. I tapped yes and sometime later my phone was exactly as it was before, down to the arrangement of icons in the home screen. So easy compared to Android!
Besides that, I also love Apple's fast charge technology, the battery charges in a fraction of the time compared to my Android, not to mention it lasts longer. UI wise, I love how thoughtful the designers were when they enable the use of useful apps without unlocking the phone, apps such as camera, torch, calculator, timer etc. the physical mute button is also awesome, without the need to dive into menus to mute the phone.
Apps wise, I found the AppStore ones to be superior. More expensive, sometimes yes, but they they're a pleasure to use. I bought a lot of apps on Android, but I don't care about abandoning them because I prefer AppStore apps. I also love that they can be used on the iPad too. I actually like the iPhone so much I went and bought an iPad.
I could go on and on but if I were you I'd go for the iPhone OP.

+1, including actually thinking about an iPad. Comixology sucks on Android but apparently is great on iPhone. Comics are the No.1 reason I bought a tablet, and I find I'm not really using my Android tablet.

I mainly use my iPad for reading as it's the perfect size and weight for it (I have the Air 2). I have a Kindle for novels, but I use the iPad to read PDFs and magazines. When I have time I use it for photo editing (Pixelmator is so awesome) or drawing. Love the iPad :D

I couldn't imagine reading books with anything but an e-reader. Very comfortable on the eyes.

I see votes are totally one sided but I'll give out my opinion anyway.
First of all I'll say I'm an Android user myself (much better for my needs and I never really liked iOS anyway), however since I am also the "tech guy" for family and friends I end up with a lot of different phones going through me for the smallest problems or needs and as it stands most of the people I know own iPhones but looking at the people coming at me with problems I'm getting more android devices than iPhones for fixing, in fact most of the iPhone users just come to me for backups or transferring stuff from the phone to a PC since they can't do that, while android users come to me for problems with apps, phone/tablets not booting, slow systems, freezes and whatever you can think of happening on a normal windows PC. In the past 3 years I've never seen a slow or unresponsive iPhone while it happens every day on my phone (but it's a Galaxy S3 which is kinda outdated now, I use it only for calls/messages so I don't care).
If you need a phone which won't have problems with the system and you need it mainly only for the regular stuff you would need a phone for go for the iPhone (especially if it's iPhone 6 or newer mainly because of the support as someone stated in a previous comment). If you need something more, like having the freedom of customization, a lot of apps outside the google store and don't mind minor problems like rare slowdowns (mainly happens when you start filling up the phone with random apps and it has low ram haven't seen much problems with the higher spec ones) then android is definitely the superior choice.
Specs and freedom wise Android wins but iOS is nicely optimized and it's light compared to Android so even with the lower specs it works smoother than many Android phones.

+1. I hated it when I was using the camera on the Android and received a call, it would cause the phone to jam up. Android apps became so bloated I had to uninstall apps and keep only the bare minimum if I didn't want the phone to lag. When I got the iPhone, I feel so relieved to have a reliable phone again, one that won't jam up on me when I need it most.
I now only use my Android for work like a dumb phone, without 3G or anything. Turning on 3G will drain the batteries so fast!

I always had an Android phone till I got my iPhone, I have it for 1 year now and im still very happy with it! It looks better, iphones last longer and its like iphones stay fast and smooth, and overall it looks better, is easier to use... So iPhone for sure! android is ok imo, but to many options, they get slower after a while and much more chance to get dirty virusses on ur phone imo (atleast i had virusses on my android phone which i never had on my iphone)

My first smart phone was an iPhone, and I will admit that I felt it was a little ... rigid, especially with all the Android users crowing about customization. So when it came time to get a new phone, I tried switching to Android. Honestly, I think the technical differences between the two are minimal if you're not someone who wants to fuck around and tweak your phone. For someone that's not a power user, yeah, Android was a little better, but the difference was negligible.
To me, the BIGGEST reason that I'm planning to switch BACK to iPhone is stability of apps and variety of games. iPhone trumps Android in both areas. Also, my experience is that premium iPhone games go free on the App Store with surprising frequency.
iPhone is also great for FaceTime with other iPhone users. FaceTime is so much faster and more stable than Skype, especially if you find yourself traveling through China. Skype is terrible!
I'll also note that I did try a Nokia Windows phone in between. That experience ended up being terrible. I don't have a huge number of apps, but the Windows store is so devoid of stuff that it becomes a detriment. Stay away from Windows phones for now. Not that you asked.

i onyl used Android, i like beeing able to install shaddy apps ;D
I gues for normal everyday use, either one would be the same.

i always had android but i bought an iphone recently because every kids have one and it's easy to get one used for few buck.
But I still think android are better.
You can have many games, apps, and download many things for free.googleplay is better than iphonestore.
Iphone have more restriction
Android cost much less money and most of time they are better than iphone.
Btw iphone are weak so its always broke and many things are not compatibles so you have to pay much more only to have iphone's shit.

Well the way you put it I cannot give you a definite answer. I need more details on the models that are available for you. For example if they are willing to give you either an iPhone 5C or an (Android) LG G2, I'd prefer the later. If they would give you an iPhone 5s or an (Android) Moto G (2013), I'd take the iPhone 5s.
Also depends on whether you own a PC or a Mac. If you own a mac you already are part of the Apple "Universe" so going for an iPhone seems the obvious choice.

I own neither a Mac nor a laptop. I built my own PC desktop, and have done so for years.

Ill always go with a android phone over an i phone toy. Apple makes stuff that is only compatible with their approved hardware/software. Not much wiggle room for anything there. Android on the other hand is not one company only, and it makes it more adaptable and easier to use it with different tool (internal or external)

apple always makes overpriced stuff. all their new release aren't really new and they tend to claim that they pioneered that feature.
get an android smart phone with a good camera , at least 13mp rear and replaceable battery.
as for the UI on smartphone, I think Touchwiz on Samsung is the best atm. it's so convinient that you will never need to download another launcher.

iPhone , best phone i had, even though, yesterday my iphone 5 decided to stop working for the call side. It connects to wifi and works for everything, just stopped recognizing my number for no reason, it didnt fall or anything. A friend that works as a phone repairer, said might be the mother card. Meh... im so angry.. its 2,5 years old and worked like a charm.. im so upset :/ iphones are very expensive though, i agree that android is cheaper. I had mine with an offer with my operator

I have an iPad and since iPhone uses iOS, I would go with Android, Apple is awful, over priced, restrictive crud-ware.
It's a company that makes people go "baa-a-a-a!".
The thing only I like about my iPad, it was a gift, is that it can go where my computer can't.
If I had to spend money it would not on anything from Apple, the greedy buggers. I despise them with a passion.
The main benefit of Android is that it isn't Apple.

As most people already said, it's mostly a matter of personal preference. The iPhone looks better. It's fancy, easy to use and it's well organised. The Android is not as good looking but it usually has a bigger screen, it's more permissive and there are a lot more devices that use Android so you get a wide range of future products while using the same account. I had a Iphone 4 and a Galaxy S4 so far and i was happy with both of them. Ultimately, just pick the one that comes from a more recent generation.

I hear that comment all the time, the iPhone "it's so pretty". Then I look at it and I see some ugly rectangular brick. I find that HTC has some of the best looking phones out there.

The fandroids took this place over already, but I wanted to post this:
Android:
If you want to customize everything and/or want to download illegal apps, choose android.
If you want a phone that is stable and works, choose iOS.
People who say apple is overpriced are plain wrong, because that's relative. Buying an android phone of the same quality of an iPhone you'll at least just as much (same with mac/pc btw, although I still prefer pc.)
Comment has been collapsed.
It depends what you're used to, Khalaq has to choose between the two with no regard of price. Fact is you CAN use android to download those illegal apps and customizations, but if you're going for stability, you'll want the iPhone, even though android is likely also stable if you don't **** around with it, then still the iPhone is more stable and likely your first choice, that is if you can pay it, but in Khalaq's case that should not be any problem...
And I would also choose android over iPhone if I had been using android for my whole smartphone carreer...

Apple IS overpriced, there's no doubt about it. If you compare phones and PC with similar hardware, Apple will always be much pricier. But buying an Android phone of much better quality than an iPhone will cost just as much. There's a reason Apple is the tech company with the biggest profit margin while selling less than others, everything they sell is overpriced.
Oh, and the stability myth propaganda by Apple's marketing department is just that, a myth.
Android 4.x is more than twice as stable as iOS 7.1
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, believe me, my friend, I have experience on both, + seen people use both, android always has a nasty habit of crashing apps while I have seen only one app crash on iOS.
And Samsung Galaxies have (almost) the same price as iPhones.
And other android brands, do not have phones nearly as good as the iPhone (or Galaxy)

Poll seems about right considering Apple has about 16% of the market share and Android has around 79%.

So much ^^ this^^ Although what I have is an iPad, it's the iOS stuff that makes me hate it. iTunes is like greenlight from hell, the fact I can't change anything that I am so used to changing, with my computer is maddening and they are over priced if you compare the difference.
I can/t open the file structure in it whatsoever, and though I haven't used an android i have read and heard that they are much much more flexible. Apple treats it's customers like garbage as well. break the screen? Apple will charge you almost as much as a new iPad to fix it. (I know this because I just went through that on my iPad, maybe iPhones are less crazy but it still left a bad taste in my mouth about Apple.
As for fans, I am a fan of nothing, I like what works and I like what I can mess with, If I buy a car I'd like to see under the hood. (yeah I know cliche) I buy anything computer (Including my iPad, I would like to mess with it. Apple won't let you do anything to their products without abandoning you.
My sister bought an iPhone and then upgraded it the next generation, she found out hard that you also have to upgrade the dock, Apple will milk every penny from you.

Look, I dont know much about what you said, I have iPhone 4 and I dont have any problems with that (actually I have some but it doesnt bother me) and I just know that lots of people just hate the iPhone because how it is made and just prefer Android instead because it's way easier to use but whatever, I still prefer iPhone because I dont have any experience with Android.

Neither. iPhone is overpriced, Android is still a mess on anything but the highest tier phones. Windows Phone or Blackberry. Windows, if you are among those wo want to use their telephone to everything but using it as a phone. (People like to do that for some reason. I will never get what is so great about watching a movie or playing a port of a console game intended for tv screen on a display smaller than your palm…)

I'd prefer an iPhone in the situation where money is outside of the question. Better security (stuff as bad as Stagefright never happened on iPhones), more apps and games that I'd actually use, less of a headache choosing what model I want, easier to use, and lasts longer (look at the iPhone 4S against the Galaxy S3 now).

While I have no problem continuing to use my "dumb phone," I am in the position of having friends and family offering me hand-me-down phones as they outgrow their :"smart phones." This brings up something of a dilemma, however. Which path should I go down? So, since there are probably some of you who have experience with both styles of phone, iPhone and Android, I thought I would ask you all. If you could get either an Android phone or an iPhone for free, which one would you pick and why? I'm looking for the benefits and drawbacks of each.
Edit: I play games on my computer, so I have no reason to play them on my phone. I might use the camera (rarely), and I will probably use the email and texting. I don't use Twitter or Facebook or any of that social media stuff. As for other "apps," I have no idea what's out there.
