I didn't read everyone's suggestions, just skimmed the first page..

Cowboy Bebop -- This is a MUST. You also have permission to watch it with the English Dub, cause it's actually as good or better than the original Japanese voice acting. This is very rare, as most dubs are shit.
Done? Now go watch it again. Oh and the Movie, make sure to watch it too, it goes sometime before the end, not sure if there's a solid ep to watch it on, but sometime before the ending arc in the Series.

The rest are gonna be in more of a random order, by which I mean I'll list them as I notice them in my Anime folder, and not by quality/preference.

Ghosts in the Shell, Movies, Stand Alone Complex, ARISE, the whole deal. Keep in mind the main Movies, Stand Alone Complex (and it's movie versions of it's major arcs), and Arise (and it's movie) are all different boots of the story. So they WILL contradict eachother in some areas. That said they are all fairly true to the story and are not crazy different. Most differences people don't even pick up on.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (and it's movie). Has some superpowers, but really is good. Again the Dub here is very good. I'd suggest watching it in the timeline order and not the aired order, but that's me. Also, there's an Arc from the second season called Endless Eight. It goes longer than it should, I'm sorry, suck it up the rest of the show makes it worth it.

Bakemonogatari (and the rest of the series). This one you'll either love or hate, and you'll probably know it fast. There is a LOT of complex dialogue, and flashing screens with words on it too fast to read it all (unless you go back and pause it, it's okay though, you're not SUPPOSED to catch it all). Personally this is one of my fav shows. It revolves around the supernatural, but it's not really a superhero story per-say.

Code Geass. More supernatural, also Mechs, and School Kids. But still a great show.

Planets - This is another one of my all time fav Animes. It's not really like anything else I've seen. Set in space, about collecting space junk. No Superpowers, schoolgirls, or even tentacles.

K-On! It's your slice of life Highschool musical anime.

Highschool of the Dead. The opposite of above, with Zombies.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - The Series, and the new movies. The series is more of a right of passage. Also, there's a point in both of them where you are going to go WTF is going on, and have no clue. Don't panic. No one knew, even now still no one knows. They like it that way.

FLCL. Like above, it's a right of passage. Again, no one has any idea what's going on, but that's no reason not to enjoy the ride.

Black Lagoon - I love this series. It's about a group of hired guns/mers/whatever you wanna call em in/around the South China Sea. No supernatural, unless you count Maidzilla.

Hyouka - I love it, some were less so, kind of a slice of life school story meets Sherlock.
