Since GMG credits are about to expire, I used what I had to buy this somtin'-somtin' to give back to this great community! :)

Also:
What do you think about this change of "popular opinion" about commenting on GAs? When I joined, some two and a half years ago, I was told that people "look down" on you when you don't say "Thanks" on GAs you entered, and the entered/comments ratio should always be on the side of comments. But now many people started yelling against commenting and blacklisting left and right, and/or started demanding something more than "Thanks".
I personally think that it is a hard habit to brake, (also I like being polite and saying thanks on every GA I enter) and I don't always have enough time, or will, to conjure up something meaningful.

Thanks bump!

Edit: As I commented on a "thanks" of you recently. I prefer a thanks over nothing everyday but if a little variation is possible that is even greater! Sorry if my comment sounded to harsh.

I try, but when I'm entering from my phone I often can only copy-paste a "thanks", since, for some reason, my keyboard misbehaves and won't appear most of the times when I use browser on the phone... :(

I'm always pro-comments!

Or maybe I should cut down, seeing how I have nearly 32K of them >.>

Maybe you will break the site if you exceed 32767(8).

Nah, Lina proved 32767 is not the limit. 64K is another cookie though.

Well, the blacklist became an actual "thing" instead something you have to get approval for in every single GA.

Some people have strict criteria for entering GAs, some people more lax, tomato, toMAHto.
Personally I read everything in the description boxes of GAs I enter, and do what is requested of me if within reason (not like, do a video of you doing a somersault or some shit).
At times, when the request is inconvenient for me, I just skip on the GA.
When people ask to not post thanks... well, I post something else, like "Happy Birthday" just to indicate I read the box.

To ask something else or not to say anything on a GA is one thing, but I must say a was a bit insulted (a tiny-tiny bit) when I first saw a description that went something like: If you say generic "thanks" on this GA, you must be a bot so I will blacklist you.
Also I make it a point to read every description box of every GA I have opened, let alone entered.

In such cases I probably would be a smartass and write "thanks" in binary or something like {INSERT_GENERIC_THANKS}, but that's just me ;)

I think it all comes down to what the GA creator wants... if they say no comments or generic thanks, I respect that and write nothing... or if the description said something interesting, I try to contribute to that conversation...

I usually try to avoid posting a generic comment because if the user creates several GA's at once, it will be cumbersome to scroll through walls of "thx" comments to find actual things to reply to.

Hope you find this helpful :)

thx for the ga :P

+1
There were a couple of times back when I first joined that I missed offer posts in my trade thread because they got lost in the heaps of generic 'thx' messages I was getting.
Personally I usually don't comment in a GA unless the description asks me to, I have something relevant to say, or it's a really nice game being given away. Or if I win, of course.

There is a filter on the left, that shows you only the trades, exactly for that reason. :)

In the beginning I thought I would thank in the case of winning only but considered the entry-thanking more as spam.

That attitude but changed around 180° while my first giveaway when I found out actually it felt nice to recieve those thankies.
Since then I'm always thanking and would feel bad if not doing so ;)

Like others have said before me, I usually read the description and try to respect whatever the GA's creator want. But I would never blacklist someone for saying thank you, that just seems wrong to me; blacklisting someone who is being nice a nd polite. They're enough rude people to go around...

I was early with the whole "please don't say thanks" bit, in my very first GA outside of the group that lead me here (don't get confused by the Victoria 2 "private" ga, it was also for the group, I just made a quiz for it, the Trauma Ga was my first one outside of the closed group), I requested that people would not post any comments unless they had something specific to ask, and that was nearly 3 years ago. So to me the change in attitude, and my reasoning then for asking people not to write thanks is the same as my reasoning now, if anyone has a question, some concern or something insightful to say, I don't want it to get buried.

I suspect that part of the reason for the change of attitude, at least among forum goers, is that I'm seeing more large GA events going on now, which means that there is a greater risk of something getting buried.

edit And for the record, I've never blacklisted anyone for it, though if I hosted a 30 GA train, and someone posted thanks in every GA, I would consider adding that person to the BL.

There are two things that put the damper on gracefully accepting other peoples; gratitude; auto-entries, and message notification. People dislike those two things so much that some of them no longer want a "thank you" message.

Personally, I always thank the giveaway creator for the giveaway unless he/she is adamant that I do not.

I stopped saying thanks because some people get mad when they receive notifications, so now I only say thanks when I win :/

bump and thank you :3

It depends on the giver. Some people find that saying thanks or some generic wording without winning is like botting and some people like me doesnt care. Some people love having lots of spam to their message and some just like a quiet life. That is why I will just say thanks as a comment for giveaway i win and enter and ignore the rest unless I can find something interesting or relevant to say.

I never got a notice from GMG or Playfire. I have $1.50 in credit from playing Bioshock Infinite, not much I can get for that.

Habit to break.

People, especially who give alot, if they constantly keep getting notifcations of new replies when it's just someone saying thanks it distracts from the more important ones. Best to just thank only if you win something, unless stating otherwise.

Thanks for the giveaway.

thanks for the ga, at least you could spend the credit into something nice :3

the problem isn't the thanks, it's people not reading the description and at least trying to comment on something related to the game... even a "thanks for X game, i always wanted to play it" is better than "ty" or "thanks!".
it shows some appreciation to the creator not to repeat the same copy/pasted message every time. :3

It does get a little much seeing all the notifications for "thank you" messages (especially the same cut-and-paste message when the same person enters more than one of your giveaways), but I personally would never blacklist someone for it. I myself don't say "thank you" on every giveaway I enter, but I do answer questions if the giveaway creator asks one, and I always thank them if I win.

Since every comment makes a notification on a user's profile, I'm okay with one does not comment, but I'm always happy to see thanking comments. Especially if from friends, or generally: more personal variations instead of ty, thx and thanks. But leaving a thank you after winning the giveaway is kind of mandatory in my book, basic courtesy.

Because I don't want to contribute to flooding someone's in-box, I tend to say nothing unless I win a GA... UNLESS the description includes something that I want to comment on, or if the game itself is screaming to be commented on (like when I say, "This is one of my favorite games, thank you!" or "This is one of my MOST-wanted games!!")

Yeah I make a point to comment on ones I win or particularly rare games (GA wise)

I like to comment every now and then, but the description of the GA must be something than just gl :P

Also when private GAs on the forum (like trains and stuff) I make a comment in the topic instead(like I'm going right now :P).

And in WL GAs I enter(or even when I don't) I feel like I have to comment. I'm a weird not really contributer ugly(hopefully you cam see that :P) guy, so for people to like me, they must really see something good in my twisted mind. And that's really something I take personal and I love it!

But there are other cases where I see myself WL from guys I never saw, which in that cases I feel no empathy. But I don't join their GAs either to respect. And for those who fit in this case, don't take me wrong ;)
