I want to know how people sort their Steam games in the Steam Client, no how to do it. Right now I have 200 games and I put the installed games in "Favorites", created a category called "Good Games" for exactly what I consider good games. I have a "Crap" category and the games that not match Good nor Crap category are in "Games".

How do you all do it? I'm curious because I'm sure people are more neat and clean for these things than me lol

Oh god. I knew this would happen one day and I would reply to it non the less!
So here we go:

First I once (upon a time) sorted my games into publish year. So I have already 19 tabs for that (2000 - 2018; nothing in 2019 somehow yet?)
ABC - since I am doing an ABC challenge...
Aborted - right...
Batch - it should rly be Badge, but... error. It's similar to ABC, only some different rules apply here
BLAEO monthly - it's not though. But ever since we had a monthly were ppl recommended their fav games... that's it rly
Done
Done - no achievements - bc I kinda wanted to know this
And even better Done 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019; not before, bc I obv started with this in 2016...
Endless - what can I say. Games I always forget to play, bc there is no ending panic
Free to Play - OMG! It's even worse then Endless!
Gaming Sickness - sob
Geschenk - which is Presents in German. So yeah, games I got gifted and try to play with prio (don't mistake this with prio though, that's another tab)
Installed - basically all the games I've currently installed, minus FTP games....
Prio - so this is THE list. THE most important one! The one I'm RIGHT NOW playing! (it's super short compared to ALL the others...)
SG WIN!
Through - Unfinished - bc there are games I've beaten and I want to complete at some point but rly can't play it right away a second time...
Undone - hurray, got these too!
Undone - No Achievements - similar do "done - no achievements". in fact it's the same... only not yet played :]
Z-New - why z? So it's at the bottom. N would be somewhere in the middle and I'd never see it. Why at all? Bc I post an update ever week and the games in this one get to appear every week. It's like my list of shame or something. Only I don't regret it.

(VR - That's from steam, isn't it? It's not mine. Just like Favorites. Didn't do this, it's just there)

Total: 41+2 \o/

Yep, totally my sorting system. Don't get me started about my Blaeo sorting... which is shorter but basically the same-ish :]
I might just like sorting :]

Other than the regular preset Games and VR folders:

Folder 1: games where I earned all achievements
Folder 2: games I started, not plan to play it anymore but not earned all achievements
Folder 3: games without achievements
Folder 4: games with bugged achievements
Folder 5: Games I might want to play in the future but need DLC for achievement completion
Folder 6: Games I might want to play in the future but need MP for achievement completion
Folder 7: Games with achievements I'll never want to play
Folder 8: Drug dealing games. No effort achievement spam games, they are bad and sold only to use out achievement addiction. I don't need free 5k cheevos, I keep them separated. (yeah, from bundles, I always tried to avoid these drug dealer developers, but still got some from bundles.
Folder 9: Backlog folder where I keep a good variety of games I want to play once. I definitely won't play all I keep in this folder but it gives me a selection when I looking for something new to install. About 150 games there now, even though I am an achievement hunter only fun games there, after all, I am a hunter and not hoarder!
Folder 10: Installed games I playing or planning to play in the near future.
Folder 11: VR games. While there is already one VR regular folder stupid Valve place these games into the regular Games folder too.

All my ~5k sorted like this, I probably wouldn't do this from scrap but I kept sorting my games since the beginning, so the regular "games" folder where every game goes after purchase/activation always empty for me:-)

Self-explanatory. Some are categorized through titles some under publishers and some by genre.
Unusual:
(G)old - Good old games
1+ - Trash games that are only a 1+ in my library
Best game in the world - Reserved place for Plants vs. Zombies GOTY
Curation - Trash tier games I got from curating in a steam server
Demo - Demos, Alphas and Betas
Everybody sins - lets not
Free to play - Games that are free to play and I have DLC for them so they stay in my library
Instant Rage - Games that cost me a keyboard or a mouse
Interesting - Good and interesting games that I will surely play someday... someday
Pixel fun - Indie games that are really good.
Slav games - Games made by Slavs
Trading cards - Trash games that are only useful for their trading cards

Done and Not done.
Series get their own collection though, as their title names don't always follow the same pattern.

I sort by achievements and try to 'work off' the low achievements first. (With some long-time investment WIP games on the side.) I also add trading cards/badges to keep track of that completion, as well as an unplayed tag for games that have neither cards nor achievement, so they have a place to be. I have a special group of tags for gifts, depending on whom its from (or if it's from SG). I also have a category for games I'Ve yet to review. and one for those that are 100% completed (including the review). I only hide games if they were kinda trashy or otherwise not to my liking (after reviewing them, unless it's a removed game).

I think that's about it. I use symbols like ~ or # to keep relevant tags grouped since the categories are alphabetical. Every game that's not hidden has at least one such category, that way I can keep track of untagged games since they make the default "games" category appear. Wish I could kill the VR category XD I tend to use the favourites category for both favourites and currently active games that have some sort of daily system (for easy access since they're always on top that way).

I sort my games four different ways. In order of usefulness:

• Library Screen. Detail View and Recently Played. It works well for reminding me of my current priorities.

• Categories. "New" games I have yet to play, "Patch Test" for recently-updated games, and various levels of bugginess ranging from "No Achievements" to "Unplayable" (which are thankfully few).

• Favorites. If something isn't marked as a favorite, it means I have no interest in ever looking at it again. That fate is reserved for the most offensively terrible games that I am ashamed I ever thought might be worth a purchase. Also competitive multiplayer-only games, because other people on the Internet are the worst and who has time for that shit?

• Spreadsheet. When I'm in the mood for something new (but not something in the New category), I generate a list of random games using my gaming spreadsheet. Or more honestly, continue tinkering with the random functionality. (I'm not quite happy with it yet--I'm not sure I'll be satisfied until I can specify genre, which would require a total overhaul and adding a tag system which would be a right pain in the ass.) I also have it set up for achievement-hunting: listing the games with the most/fewest achievements left, largest percentage per achievement, which games have the most rare achievements, etc. (I never actually use it, but it was fun to build.)

I sort by the first letter of the game, like: "GAMES - A", "GAMES - B"
Also created a "VAULT" category that I put bad games there. Probably games I will never play again.

I have this amazingly epic system that took me the ass end of forever to come up with and form.
So like, I have this one category tab called games. Sounds simple but bear with me.
And within this games tab is...all my steam games.
I know, I know. I'm a goddamned genius.
Best part is, when I activate a new game, it automatically gets added to the games tab without me needing to do anything! Wow who would have thought this level of genius possible. You may all bow before my might.

In all seriousness I basically just have the default games tab steam generates. It's all sorted alphabetically anyway and I've so far never needed anything different.

I have 10-12 categories, basically I put every single game into a single category and I've got a separate one for those who aren't playable due to bugs or similar reasons (or simply my PCs won't load them..).. so there's visual novels, rpgs, tower defense, hidden object, sports, casual/indie, beat 'em up/fighting etc. etc..
and then there's the "completed" category of course for the games I finished =)
VR games are already sorted unfortunately and you can't delete the VR category in your library, I love them too (Oculus Rift here)
Years ago a wise friend of mine told me to start the earliest possible to sort my library and he was so right =P

I wish steam implemented the amount of games you have in each categorie like for example "AAA Games (420)" "Trash (over 9000)"

i have this idea to play through my backlog roughly in bundle purchase order, so i have new 17 - indie gala 2 through new 341 - humble humongous ent for unplayed games from bundles, plus a general unplayed for steamgifts wins, free games, and games i bought not through a bundle. for games i have played, i have completed, remaining achievements, currently playing, quit, and random (games that have a different single player experience each time through, such as builders / simulators).

i also have some categories to help me find types of games: local for local multiplayer / coop games, kids for games my kids can play (possibly with me), multi-coop for coop but i wanted it to sort next to multiplayer, and multiplayer

I only have Backlog and Kolekcija categories.
Kolekcija = Collection is category for games I played (incuding played on Steam, played long before I discovered Steam or GOG ones)

I have made multiple attempts to sort my library, and as a result I have multiple categories meaning roughly the same thing with different names and even less organization than I did originally. I love organizing things normally but when it comes to games it's just hard - I just want to play games, not spend time putting them in categories.

I do have a category for sg wins though that I keep updated to make sure they get playtime priority and aren't deleted.

Alphabetically. :P
There is also a single Category called "Do not open until 10.04.2024". The Stanley Parable and its dumb "do not play the game for 5 years" achievement hold exclusive rights to that one.

Favorites: Top 10% or so of games that I actually want to finish. (332 games)

Unplayable - Games that I can't play at all because of dead servers, broken coding, or hardware issues. (16 games)
Soon - Short list of what I'm currently playing. (4 games)
