has anyone noticed the trolls with big contributions to this site quickly vulturize new members with hate, why do you think this is.
No dude. You, don't get it yet. But if you stick around you will sooner or later. Welcome to SG!! :)

Polls frequently have "potato" as an option, as something of a forum meme.
The user wasn't intending to be hostile, but was making a joke.
But yeah, I suppose that's the trick to comedy. It's on the comedian to make the joke apparent or face an appropriate response ;P
Try not to stress though, all communities have trolls. You'll find that steamgifts is pretty good over all.

Find a friend who looks at you the same way the person in your profile picture does, if you do find such a friend, cherish his/her company

That's pretty funny! (Your first post.) How unfortunate that you didn't get a single response! Granted, it was a kind of obscure thing-- probably not too many people had boxes like those in their shelf or closet.
I tried to bump for visibility, but the topic was closed. =( ;-)

There were some less-than-nice responses in your thread, but most of them answered normally. You question came from a good place, though, as you were trying to find out if people would want indie game from developers they've never heard of (answer: yes, because it increases the size of their Steam library and they might be able to farm cards from it. Or they might play it.)
You came in a little hot with the all caps and the "DAM RIGHT RUDE" part, so some people responded to that. I'm sorry you felt "verbally attacked" but really you'll see much worse here and on other Internet forums. This topic in response, though, suggests you need to let things roll off of you and not attack back so hard. Just my opinion.
Anyway, welcome to Steamgifts (and its FAQ and Guidelines), thank you for taking a look at the forums, and good luck giving away and winning games!

It helps to remember that people only allow themselves so much time budget for passing interests (such as discussion topics, etc). If a subject doesn't grab them they'll usually click on by, but if at a passing glance it seems hostile or somehow hypocritical, they may spare a less favorable response before leaving. I didn't read your original thread and I won't assume anything bad about you because you seem to be coming from a good place, but try to remember that some people are petty and judgemental, and will take any excuse to self-elevate and take potshots at a pretend bad-guy for tiny trespasses.
Try not to let the bitter people wear you down. While we do have a certain number of them here, all online communities do. We can't claim to be perfect but generally speaking the populace here are pretty nice. Try to be careful about stacking the odds against your favor though. When you create a poll with skewed results with no option for dissent, and if it appears you're being judgemental yourself, people may respond badly under the assumption that you are the one being rude. Like I said, people's whole time economy thing means they don't always read things in full detail and can respond to tone equally as much as what is said. Please try to remember that you too also read in this manner, and what you felt was a verbal attack may have been meant as something far lighter or even positive. For instance, that earlier post from someone about the poll being useless because there is no 'potato' option was actually a jest rather than a nasty judgement.
Perhaps take a step back and take a deep breath. If you're willing to join in giving away games you'll always be welcome, and the fact you even care about this stuff is likely a good sign. You'll be appreciated, even if not always overtly. Whereas trolls will always be willing to spare you a douchey comment :P
Regardless, welcome to the forums, and please try not to hang yourself on your good intentions!

Great minds think alike, and the rarely known ending of the sentence: though fools seldom differ. :D
Jokes aside, I would disagree - they don't care about competition, they think they are entitled to talk down people because of the time / money spent on the site and CV / levels achieved. It's common on the internet - level 2 noob, level 0 nobody, you're here only for a year, talk if you're here for 3-4 like me, etc.

SG is similar like the real world: you have everything ranging from the worst of the worse to very good people. Totally disregard the first ones and interact in a proper and friendly manner with the second ones. ^^

I didn't see your previous post, so I don't know what was in it, or why people would verbally attack you over it. I'm sorry you were verbally attacked, regardless.
I couldn't say why those people verbally attacked you, but being an internet site we've gotten our fare share of trolls, and that has led some veterans to mistrust new users that haven't given anything away yet - figuring that they're just another troll.
As a slice of gamer society, I think you'll find there are some mean people here but that they're greatly outnumbered by all the kind and friendly people.

Is this about that topic?
About 90% of the replies were pretty normal and friendly (including mine) and one or two wondered about the all caps and expressed that they considered the topic to be strange. Nobody was aggressive or impolite.
And the truth is: You wrote in all caps and it was a strange topic. So I seriously don't see any reason to complain.
Considering your new thread here, that once again was in caps, is again about a strange (because unjustified, as it seems) topic and once again offered plenty of insults in the poll, I'd argue that the problem is rather you than the community.
Comment has been collapsed.
oh, no complaints here this just gave me the answers I needed the caps were a mistake on purpose and the question was really straight forward but if you notice on the thread lots of folks went on assumption of the question and some folks offered help that's what it was all about don't you find that interesting

I went back and looked at your other topic, and I couldn't one instance of "verbal attack", let alone the six you claim to have occurred. I think the problem is that you asked a pretty bizarre, out-of-the-blue question, without really explaining your reason for doing so. When you do that, I think people have the right to be confused, and lay down some constructive criticism as well. They have freedom of expression just the same as you.
Hope you get it figured out, and enjoy SG!

Well they kind of had to make assumptions. You presented an out of context question, and other people judged with what they had to work with. They can't read your mind, and it's not their job to get you to clarify.
It's a hard reality. but it's not everyone's job to be nice or make you happy or whatever. That's life for ya.
Again, best of luck to ya, and have fun of Steam Gifts.
Comment has been collapsed.
yeah but it would be smart to ask questions first and then shoot later if need be and you made a very good statement people judge without having to open there mouths maybe people should start asking questions you think that was the whole point of this and not one person asked GO FIGURE best of luck to you to

Hmm... Ok. I have no idea what attacks you had but we are just regular people that have regular lives and sometimes we are just pissed about our day and we throw all of what's inside to whatever it's in front of us. You know, just like regular people. We all have those moments. The sg discord had already suffered from me with that(and my endless sarcasm and insults, but that's more me than anything else)(also check it out, really fun stuff, the link is somewhere on the forum, just use the search bar). You just got unlucky I guess, we are generally nice folks(I mean, we give away games for crying out loud!), just don't step in anyone's toes and you'll be fine.
Last but not least welcome ;)

first of all no one cried or got there feelings hurt or was attacked accept the Devs this was just an experiment to weed out the good from the bad and get some good karma going for this site I'm here to give not take, stay tuned and thanks for your good advice

Just a well meant hint:
You might have been blacklisted already by a bunch of people. You can check the stats to see if
(https://www.steamgifts.com/stats/personal/community)
BEFORE YOU GO NUTS ABOUT THAT -> READ ON!
These following facts might help you to understand:
a) Blacklisting is happening for ANY reason and you cant do anything about it (!!!!)
b) Making a thread about such stuff will just increase the blacklist (!!)
c) People who blacklist others because of such stuff make few to none giveaways anyway, so --> you shouldnt even think about it. (!)
Thats basically just a feature to block people from entering your giveaways. Imho just use it for people who break rules or you absolutely dont want in your GAs
I just leave that here because its a common thing new members trap into ;)

I'm aware of this but this was clearly a straight forward experiment and I was ready for the bullets I just can't believe how many of these folks just went on assumption of the question? this was done before on another site its called who started the war anyway I'm here to give to this site not take and as far as black listing I understand that to its all part of the rules to keep people in check that's another assumption but it gave me the answers I needed
Comment has been collapsed.
Just a small hint: you know that if you blacklist someone, you won't be able to enter their giveaways, right?
As for the community, it's actually more friendly than not - and to newbies as well, yep (at least I remember feeling really welcome here when I first registered and created a thread with a pretty silly question). The thread you've created included insults towards indie developers, it was also written in caps. Still, I failed to find more than two comments thats could be read as "verbal attacks". But yeah, sure, if you goal is farming as many blacklists as possible, than you are moving in the right direction.
Comment has been collapsed.
yes I do understand the concept of black listing I'm here to give not take and as for the question I asked was pretty straight forward and was meant to bring out the devs and boy did it I was ready for the bullets though, that one question answered everything I wanted to know about the site you don't get answers if you don't ask the right questions thanks for your comments and have a nice day

So, basically, your main goal was to provoke by being rude?
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, if I've learned anything on the internet, is that you never take anyone's word for it without context. In your case, I can't support/defend you because you did not provide context as in how exactly someone "attacked" you - I won't say they were in the wrong because I haven't seen what they've wrote, I haven't seen what you've wrote, and I'm not about to make wild assumptions to justify either side.
Instead, I'll just give you a piece of advice - If you truly believe someone is being disrespectful to you, the best action is to ignore it. It doesn't hurt you and it doesn't satisfy them (since actual trolls want the attention; If they get under your skin, they win). So rather than worrying about it so much, just carry on and be a pleasant member of the community - You'll find that the good and positive people will be more likely to approach you, and in the process, muffle out the trolls.

first off lets dispel the fact I was attacked just throw that away check the thread again how many folks just went out of there way to make a rude comment because they saw fit to have bad intentions and how many offered helpful tips because there a good person and saw some one in distress. get it now it was an experiment that worked see you did it to think about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at, to be honest.
check the thread again
Which thread? This one?

But you dared to say that the post did't make sense, how could you?
I just love how the OP is throwing insults around and accusing people of exactly the same thing, the poll in this thread is just awesome. I wonder if it's an honest projection or intentional trolling.

this poll was created by a newbie for a better community as this newbie has been verbally attacked 6 times and I've been a member on this site for one day in hopes of giving away free games and making new friends, go figure, is there just not enough hate in the world for the trolls I just like having great games and good friends is that to complicated for some folks?
