They are too old. It works only with some of the games. I have COD4 and I'm unable to activate it too. There was a website with info, which retail keys you can activate on steam, but I can't remember it now. If I manage to find it, I'll post.

So I heard from a friend that you can supposedly use retail CDkeys to download your game via Steam, so long as Steam actually sells the game.
So I whipped out my copies of Q3A and Q4 and entered the keys via Games --> Activate a product on Steam. It told me I had an invalid key.
Was he wrong? Do retail CD keys not work on Steam? Am I entering it in the wrong place? Does this not apply to old ass games like these two Quake titles?
