So, I'd like to suggest that not only the giveaway maker should be able to ask for a reroll, but the winner too.
Reason: it probably happened several times already that someone won a game here twice, or won a game that he bought already after he entered the giveaway. With this feature the gifting process would speed up in a minor amount of cases. For example I won 2 Fortixes during Fortixcember, but had to wait for one of the gifters just to ask him to ask for a re-roll.
But this process could have taken several days or weeks if both of us were busy while living in different time zones. It's pure coincidence my case could be solved so fast.

So. What are your thoughts on this?

BTW don't look for hidden giveaways, there aren't any in here. I'm totally broke...

Isn't that why they invented stuff like messaging and e-mail?

The e-mail isn't bad as long as the giveaway creator is willing to send the gift or chat outside of Steam.
But only the gifter can see the winners e-mail, if he doesn't send a mail then the process goes as described above.

Honestly? Sounds like you're just impatient.

No, it sounds like you're nitpicking. It's a valid suggestion and would reduce the load on support.

It would cause the same amount of extraneous work that the current system already does (if not more). Several people have pointed this out.

When a gifter asks for a reroll, it has to be investigated and granted (or not) by SG support, no ? I think an automatic reroll feature on the winner side could take some work off for the support. Never used reroll so I may be completly wrong...

+1
I won a DLC and only noticed after I won that I already had it.
Giveaway could not be rerolled due to support cant check which DLC you own :(

You can explicitly say "I don't want the gift, please reroll it." It's right there in the options for reroll "winner rejected gift," screenshots/emails can be provided for proof.

I can see big possibility for such a system to be exploited. Like just ask bunch of people to enter, and then them making reroll requests as long as designated person is chosen and wins. For example he bought a game from creator, but thanks to such system not only he/she receives a game, but creator also receives CV.

While cretor requests a reroll he must give a very good valid reason, winner may just say "well, after a bit of thought Idecided I don't really want this game".

It is already possible to do so: create a private giveaway and give the URL to the future winner only. With one entry, no reroll needed :) Or I'm missing something ?

You get no CV if there's only one entry

You don't get any CV unless the giveaway has 5 or more entries if i'm not mistaken.

5? You need only 2.

The second is that single entry giveaways do not count towards your contribution value. Because they only got one entry, they are not considered as a raffle, but rather a direct gift.
From FAQ under section "I created and completed a giveaway and the winner has marked it as received, but my contributor value isn't rising. Is there something wrong?"

Your "exploit" would only work for private giveaways (or small groups) and only as long as winner-requested rerolls are unlimited.

In other words, just limit winner rerolls to 1: in normal conditions, it's extremely unlikely that two winners will decline the gift, and if that happens, it can be brought up with support.

correct me if i'm wrong. But isn't the winner only notified that they have won a game after the person who created the giveaway checks the "I sent this gift" box? otherwise if the creator re-rolls, the person who originally won would be complaining about not receiving their winning gift? I don't know, i've never re-rolled or won anything yet so i'm not sure how this process works.

However, i do think that if you have won a game and you already won it in another giveaway and so you have two copies, You should be allowed to give it away again yourself in another giveaway you create, but it should be marked with a notification that it is a "re-gifted" copy as they have already won it, so they are not penalized for re-gifting and no CV is gained. Or you could just tell the creator that you already have it and ask them to re-roll. I do think that the process for the creator to re-roll gifts that the winner has already won should be a quicker process than those for other reasons. Not sure if the system is that sophisticated though lol.

Nope. The winner is notified as soon as the giveaway chooses them to win.

So you can be disappointed if you don't get your game because they re-rolled. Wow, that must be a bummer for some. Anybody had that happen to them here?

Well, unless they outright reject the gift, the winner already entered the giveaway under false pretenses. Either by breaking the rules of the site or the giveaway itself, they were never considered eligible to win in the first place.

Would be fun to ask for a new winner on the gift I won but didnt receive.. evil laugh

Nor will receive because the gifter never bothered to check how SG and steam work /sigh Just my luck.

On a more serious note, some valid problems have been raised but the idea is interesting.

One problem with this would be if you rerolled from one guy, and the second one you won from never actually delivered. Hopefully that would be a rare occurrence, but I'd hate to be the one to have that happen to me.

I won a giveaway I entered before I grew impatient and bought it. A reroll on my end would have helped greatly.

It would have to require support approval, because if it was automated, there'd be too many users who click it thinking it gives them the game.

And support would end up getting way more "requests" because that's what they think it does, or, they'd say "It's been 2 hours and I don't have my game yet!!!11!". There would be way more pointless requests from those who don't understand how it works than actual legitimate requests.

hide it behind 2 confirm buttons and a check that requires them to retype into the blank a sentence explaining exactly what it does (from a picture of said sentence so they can't just copy/paste) :P

you guys should put those things everywhere
