Inspired by this comment, I created a small chess problem for you :)

Important things

Rules

  • Giveaways end on Saturday, 24th of September.
  • Do not share answers/hints with other players.
  • Do not ask anybody for help, it is an individual puzzle.

Prizes

  • LEGO® Jurassic World
  • LEGO® The Hobbit™

Solution

0-0-0Bg3

Notationwise, instead of 0-0-0 you could use 000, O-O-O, OOO.

Bb8 as a second move does not mate the black king because the second black rook may break the bishop.

Good luck and have fun! especially OnlyTwin :)

Uhm, hasn't Black already lost when White is to move first?

I cannot see how the bishop may move to c7 from the initial position: you cannot reach this square even with the looping taken into account, and bishops cannot jump over other pieces.

My fault then, i just considered that diagonals would "move on" in a loopsided dimension too. ;)

Bump for solved. OnlyTwin we'll have to hate chess more and more with you!

(just to double check, white to mate in 2 means white needs to win right? :P)

Correct, check puzzlemania 4 and 5 for examples.

What version of the chess rules are you using, i can't see how white can check in two turns from british chess rules

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It is standard chess rules on a looped chess board, see Puzzlemania 4 for explanations. In short, a chess board has been wrapped into a torus.

I'm playing as white? I also assume I get the opening move?

Correct, check puzzlemania 4 and 5 for examples.

Which language do you use for algebraic notation? Since the notation differs for certain languages.

Edit: I assume: K king, Q queen, R rook, B bishop, N knight, P pawn

You have the link to this notation, use that page.

The link you provided offers every language's notation, but since you provided the english wiki I'll assume it's english. You mind if I add you to ask a single question? I would do it here but, it could potentially give a huge hint on how to solve it.

Poor OnlyTwin... I do enjoy his nonograms.

One day he'll make a 20x110 one hopefully, add some serious challenge to them :D

Thanks for the idea :) Or should I make a nonogram out of a chessboard? Hmm...

I'm glad Puzzlemania 5 chess puzzle was easier :S

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This one is easier: here you should mate the black king in 2 moves, not in 3 like it was in Puzzlemania 5. You just need to think out of box a bit in this one. Also, the referenced wikipedia article about the notation may help a bit.
