Well, I won a game but my brother's account was logged in and activated the game there. I immediately contacted Steam Gifts support to let them know about that but... it's been 4 days without a reply -I left extrra messages in the thread to bump it or something- but still nothing. I remember contacting support before and getting an answer pretty soon, so, not sure about what to do now.

Of course, I've never used my brother's account here, so, no problem with that. I've also contacted the gifter and he said it's ok (just in case it has anything to do with all this matter).

So, my question is... what to do? To start with, should I mark the game as received or leave it at the moment? Should I keep waiting for a reply? Try other way? I'm sure I'm not the first and won't be the last, so, this must be pretty common.

Thanks for any help :)

Buy game on steam and activate it on your account.

I thought about that, but it's not that cheap (I didn't say which game it was).

The game was Dispatcher (4'75€).

Don't mark it as received nor not received. If both the winner and the creator are fine with it, the giveaway can be deleted - if the creator agrees, leave a comment in his GA.

If you can afford it, it would be nicer if you buy a second copy for yourself like Tk0p3 suggested.

Well, I don't think he can delete the giveaway since I think it was one of those having more than one copy (30 copies). I think he can't delete the giveaway under those circumstances. I'll wait a bit more before taking any decission.

Thanks for your message!

i dislike the option to delete the giveaway, just cause you failed to activate it on your own account... in the end you broke the rules and now you can choose between buying the game for your own or to live with the not activated. yes, you can also ask the creator to get the ga deleted, but if it dosnt work, you should mark it as received..

btw: 4.75 € isnt that much. you can probably even buy it with selling some cards and cause its has a multiplayer, you can after it play with your brother together^^

I see. If every cent counts for you, I'd suggest finding someone from another region who can trade a copy for you. Canada and NZ both have ROW gifts that are cheaper than in EU.

Nah, thanks for that but I wouldn't mind spending a few cents more. The "problem" is spending 4'70 (or just 4€). I think I'll wait for a bigger sale and deal with the suspension for some days (and the blacklist/sgtools thing too).

Support is busy but they'll get to your ticket when they can. The easiest and probably best solution would be for you to buy the game you won and activate it on your own account. This way you can mark it as received and move along.

If you don't want to/aren't going to do that then you'll have to wait for support. I don't know what they'll do but you may have to take a tiny suspension for not activating a gift won? I can't be certain on what will happen though, sorry.

Yeah, I've heard about the suspension and I don't mind being banned for some days if that's a solution. It's more like I wasn't sure what to do regarding marking it as received or not, and not getting an answer from support.

I'll wait some more days and see if they get to my ticket. Thanks for the message :D

Do you guys know if I should keep leaving some comments to "bump" my ticket or something or should I just leave it as it is? as I said I don't mind getting suspended for some days, all I want is to make things the proper way..

If you don't mind getting a suspension for a few days you /can/ mark it as received and wait for the suspension (you could edit your ticket to say you'll take the suspension or something).

After that you'll be clear of the incident although people may still send in tickets not knowing that and you may fail some of the tests with the new sgtools thing, but that's out of anyone's hands.

Yeah, I know about sgtools :( it's bad, but hopefully I'll get the game soon (when it's bundled or something).

Leave it, nothing changes by 'bumping' it. They'll get to it when they can.

Buy the game and activate it on your account. It may have been an honest mistake, but you should replace the game regardless.
It should be on you, not the GA creator, to rectify the problem.

Something else to consider -- an unactivated win on your SG profile will get you blacklisted by a lot of users, and prevent you from joining any SGTools-created giveaways.

How did you manage to get two library entries for it? O.o
Is one region-locked or something?

EDIT: by region-locked, I meant low-violence or something to make it a different version.

If you mark as received, you'll not be allowed to enter giveaways with the sgtools. The best thing to do is buy the game and mark as received or don't do anything, don't mark as received or not and wait until support answer.

nto all SGtools. you need to check the activated all.
some only choose ratio, or CV sent or something...

Yes, but it's like 8 giveaways in a total of 10 checks if you activated all the games.

You'll have to get another copy and activate it on your account, or be suspended (for I believe 5 days). Until you add the game to your account, you'll have a non-activation mark on it, which'll prevent you from joining many giveaway groups or sgtools-enabled private giveaways.
Other than that, not really any penalty to it.

Please don't be so remarkably entitled and disrespectful as to request the giveaway creator do anything to make up for your mistake, that's a horrible thing to do after they were generous enough to give you a [very good!] game.

Yeah, didn't want the gifter to get into any trouble, just talked to him to see if he knows what should I do. AS I said he gifted 30 copies (I think) and deleting the giveaway makes no sense.

Well, once I get the game in my account those blacklisted adds and the sgtools detecting the non-activation mark will be removed? Because I'll probably end up buying the game when it gets a bigger sale or something, but not right now.

Thanks for your help :)

Well, if somebody blacklists you, they probably won't check your profile daily to see if they should unblacklist you already :P
Also, the gifter can ask for a reroll, if they find out you have not activated wins and, if those happened within the past month, the reroll should be approved even if you have already been suspended for it.

But... a reroll would be using the same key I've already used right?

Mark as received for definite. The gifter should not be denied their CV because of your mistake. It's not fair on them, and they shouldn't have negative consequences because of your actions even if they said it's ok. That's what I think is the right thing to do.

From there it's whether you want to risk a suspensions or not, or care about the SGtools thing. Buy it or don't.

Hi all, I ended up buying the game via trading keys tour tickets and all that stuff. Anyway, got the game cheaper and finally got the game, so, I'm going to mark it as received and everything

Thanks for all your help, really! Fell better right now :)
