So I took the plunge and decided to get the Humble Bundle Monthly...
It's been a slow week on the other bundle sites, so figured I would give it a whirl...
Honestly, I haven't really been impressed with much of what I missed the past couple months, but whatever :)
They had some great games, but nothing I was DYING to get my hands on if you know what I mean... I still enter for a few of them, but I digress

So, upon subscribing, I got my 'free' key for Alien Isolation and I immediately went to the steam store to try to make a decision
First thing I noticed was that it seems like it's 1st person, but doesn't have that tag on Steam... Seriously, tags on steam make me mad sometimes
Watched a couple videos, and looks like something that might be interesting to play late at night with the lights off while wearing a headset and diapers.

So the question is, how many of you have played it? Is it actually fun?
I typically like first person things... and I love pooping my pants when a game actually manages to scare me...
I would love some feedback from the community...

I see metacritic has it rated at 81/100, but their ratings don't always apply to me...

I think I need more than the videos provide, like actual user feedback from people who have actually played it, so lemme know...

what did you think... and should I keep it?

You're only here for the GA

Thanks SG Community, I've decided to keep it :D

I think you should... one of the best atmosphere I've ever seen in a game before.
I'm pretty sure that Alien Isolation will deliver everything you described before.
(I played it once on console and bought it to myself without even think twice... one word: ADRENALINE)

I played it recently (haven't finished the game yet) and I think it's worth to keep and play.

Hum, did you like the Alien movies? Then yes you should definately play this one. the developers seemed to really care about creating something for the fans of the franchise.

I'm not a big fan of horror games, and this one wasn't as scary as I expected to be, and I'm happy about that :D, but it's still an intense experience, and can give you the creeps.

Yes you should try it, I don't see a point that speaks against it. and yes it's a first person stealth-horror game - or at least that's how I would call it :)

i dont particularly like scary games, but my friend loves the game. He tells me about how smart the AI is and stuff. I will say it was entertaining to watch someone play it.

I had an opportunity to play it, though decided to not keep it for myself (even though I didn't finish game and I intend to... one day, I guess >_>). Hm... If you like horror, this is a really good one. Great atmosphere, truly scary, alien's design is absolutely phenomenal - the way it moves and acts, pure awsomeness. What I did not enjoy the slightest was back tracking. A loooot of back tracking. Still, one of better horror games available right now.

But seeing as I like metroidvania's, probably not a horrible thing, the backtracking.... XD

Some people don't mind it XD I surely do. Also, if I have to find another con, I would say that the game is a bit too long. There was a point when it literally stopped being interesting for me and my friend, so that's why it was dropped to "finish off later". But before that, it was truly engaging.

I wonder how faithful in atmosphere this game is, to the original Alien of Ridley Scott, which is probably my top favorite science fiction film of all time. Especially due to it's direction and overall creepy atmosphere that dominates the film from start till finish.

Note: While I love good horror movies, I don't particularly like playing horror/splatter games. So this would be a VERY hard choice for me too.

I've not played it, but some friends of mine said that is worth it, I'll probably trade for it during the monthly bundle :o

If you like scary first person games, then yes. I haven't played the game yet (I think I'll wait until I have enough time to properly play the game), but have heard that the game is really atmospheric and does justice to the Alien universe. Only bad thing I heard was that the Alien can be kind of blind and sometimes it just 'teleports' out of blue behind you even if you saw it going other way. Dunno if those are bugs and if they fixed them but I'd recommend putting it in your library :)

If you enjoyed the original Alien you should definitely keep it. It really feels like the movie, but made in a game form.

If you enjoy either Alien franchise, survival horror (and I mean real survival horror, not nowadays excuses for a horror that are simply action games with scary stuff in them) or stealth games - totally keep it! For me this game was absolutelly awesome - it was the Alien game I've been waiting for years! It is intense, scary, feels much more like original movie with a lot of stealth and hiding instead of mindless gun-shooting. I didn'rt like the fact that there were some unnecessary missions with androids, but overall I loved it :>

Do you like Alien movies?
Do you like Slender/Amnesia-like games?
Does stealth in shooter games bother you?

If you answer YES, YES, NO, then for sure keep it.
Otherwise, look around for some gaming-reviews from people you trust to have similar taste in games.

It looks good to me, I got this monthly bundle for it after failing to win many Alien: Isolation giveaways. I've activated my copy. Expect me to be me making some grumpy giveaways later if I hate everything else in the bundle...

That was one of my own concerns with the HB monthly.... What if I hate everything else?

Oh well, I guess we'll find out in a few hours :D

Tbh I mostly get them for giveawa material. If there's an occasional game in there I like that's only a plus. So A:I was the first out of all I was keeping for myself. I have a real hard time deciding wether I should keep Volume as well or not. Probably not...

The game is fun, a little different than what I was expecting, but fun. There is less combat but it has a lot of "Holy CRAP! Gotta hide! gotta hide! RUN VERY QUIETLY!" type moments. The kind of thing where you -and your character- hold your breath wondering if she can smell you five feet away. So anyway, stealth is key as well as good hiding places... If that sounds fun then definitely play it. It took me a while to get in to it but then it was hard to put down. Like silencium9 said too - there is a lot of backtracking but it helps you learn all the million ways an alien can move around the ship.

Not played it myself, but I watched a friend play a little bit of it, and he was absolutely terrified, despite not being alone in the room. Seemed like a great Alien game, one actually faithful to the licence and don't just use it as window-dressing.

It's not a completely new concept (it is essentially Amnesia set in the Alien universe) but it pretty much perfects that style of game. The game is focused on stealth over shooting and being a true horror game. So go in expecting an experience more like Alien than the action-oriented Aliens film sequel. The attention to detail is phenomenal, making it feel just like the original film. It is very true to it's source material (which is a rarity in video games) and it's obvious it was a labour of love from true fans of Alien.

Obviously you will get more out of the game if you are a big Alien fan, but it still has more than enough to keep people entertained who are not such big fans of the film. It's got great stealth gameplay, beautifully designed levels and the largely unpredictable Alien AI - which reacts to sounds, like gunshots - constantly keeps you on your toes. Considering true horror games are few and far between these days (almost all games are action-horror, like the latest Resident Evils and Dead Spaces) it's great if only for being an irregularity in the industry.

Selfish me says "give it away to a level 4 whitelist giveaway...and oh, invite me to your whitelist please?"....but that's just a mask for my real answer of yes. keep it. I hear good things and if you like a jump-scare and own it, there's no reason to not play it.
