I'll post an old (short) review for a movie I did a few years ago (not sure how long)
Not sure how I would feel rewatching it now (I prob should) but this is then :)

Chatroom

First time seeing this movie and I was blown away by the very original concept of visualizing internet chatrooms. Really very creative and wonderfully done. Furthermore I think the film very well shows how much not just chatrooms but probably internet and mostly “social media” influence us and are intertwined with our “normal” lives. Apart from that however the film was not that good. Some nice visuals, at times decent acting, overall I would rate it a six out of 10 but take away the originality and visuals and you’re left with a 3 out of 10. Was still worth the time though.

Another old one I came across on my old tumblr movie screenshot thing :)

Monsters

Just finished watching “Monsters” (2010). IMDB lists this movie as a drama/sci-fi/thriller but that’s pobably because there was no category: “Shoot lots of beautiful pictures of a model/actress, scenery and do some amazing stuff with alien monsters” because basically that’s what this movie is about. Storywise I thought it kind of weak but a lot of the shots are amazing, not in the least those of/with Whitney Able. And I have to admit I am not a big fan of short hair. To quote the fabulous Cassie: “I like hair that goes on and on and on” but Whitney? Just gorgeous! As were the “monsters” in this movie although in an entirely different category ofcourse :). I was just lost for words and almost holding my breath (as the characters in the movie) in the endsequence of the movie. Job well done there! I loved the sounds of the monsters too. Few screenshots after the break. Just a few because otherwise I would have to start a whole new page just for Whitney :) and only one of the monsters because no single image would do them justice. IMDB-rating says 6.5 and as far as the entire movie goes I tend to agree (almost never happens :)) but for the visuals alone I would have to rate a 7.5.

I just watched X-Men Apocalypse last night. There may be some minor spoilers below. I am not a critic so this isn't much of a review, just my thoughts after watching the film.

Overall, I was a little disappointed with the film. As a Marvel fan, you can always count on little teasers thrown in to hint towards future plot lines or other Marvel characters as a form of fan service. The problem though is that it feels as if they took a survey of what people enjoyed from previous X-men movies and just stuck all of those elements together in this film. Did you enjoy the Quicksilver scene from Days of Future Past? Good, let's throw one of those in, with the same type of humor where Quicksilver has time to drink some soda and throw some darts while saving everyone. This also happens in a point in the film where the action is starting to ramp up and things start getting serious. Then we'll have some light-hearted humor, then right back to things being very tense. I thought the sequence itself was great, though oddly out of place. Are you a fan of Wolverine? Of course you are, he's been featured in pretty much every other X-Men movie. We'll just throw Logan in for a cameo and have a 5 minute sequence where he goes on a rampage. In fact, most of the movie feels like a bunch of highlight clips featuring one or two characters doing something cool, and then they do pretty much nothing else for the rest of the film. Aside from being in one of the fights, Psylocke does practically nothing but stand around in the background. Storm and Angel get a tiny bit more background, but you don't ever get any real character development. The characters that they do focus on, have already been done to death. As much as I love Michael Fassbender, they insist on having Magneto be the major character to drive the plot forward and it is all too predictable. The whole film just feels like it's spread a bit too thin, and playing it a bit too safe.

Thank you for the review. You might say that that's not much of a review, but I think it's really good. I'm a little disappointed to hear your views on Apocolypse. I've been looking forward to it, but this sounds like most of my fears come to fruition. It sounds a little bit like how X-men went from fantastic to X-Men: The Last Stand. I hated that movie. It did everything wrong. I'll still give Apocolypse a go, but I'm afraid it's going to be The Last Stand all over again.
Anyway, we'll let you know, but that is an excellent review imo. Good luck.

It definitely wasn't all bad. I enjoyed Days of Future Past a lot and I felt really optimistic with the way the new trilogy was going. I thought they nailed Storm's look (Mohawk Storm is by far my favorite) which is part of the reason I was really disappointed that the Horsemen didn't play a larger role. The film is like 2 and a half hours long too, and it just spends so much time setting up, trying to give everyone equal screen time, while providing all the necessary origins and exposition. The film probably could have just done with like 4 fewer characters and that would have been great. I'm definitely feeling a bit spoiled after the other offerings from the MCU this past year, so while X-Men Apocalypse didn't quite live up to what I expected, it's still nowhere near the travesty I felt X-Men: The Last Stand was :p

Thanks for the offer but I'll have to respectfully decline. I just wanted to chime in since I love movies and tv shows (and Marvel) and it's always nice to have discussions with like minded people. Good luck with your group! :D

I recently finished watching first season of Sense8 so I'll write a bit about it but it's my first time writing a "review", so don't be harsh.
Sense8 - Season 1
In the beginning we are put in the middle of a situation that we don't have any idea about and, like most series out there, the story begins by some woman sacrificing herself to protect the heroes of our story. Later we find out what she did there formed some kind of mental connection between 8 different people from 8 different countries (except 2 of them who are both from USA), and little by little we learn about their lives, skills, beliefs, problems, past, attractions and etc. The way they're introduced to us is somehow different from how main characters are introduced in most of the movies; It's not only us who get to know them, we see the characters learning more about each other as we progress through the story too. So anyway this connection enables them to feel what the other sensates feel, have conversations with each other through telepathy and even take each other's places in different situations (not physically, just in their mind); So once they learn about what's happening to them and how they can control it, they start using each other's skills and knowledge to find the evil guys and punch them in the face.
The fact that each of the sensates are from different countries, makes the movie pretty colorful, in fact I don't think I've ever seen a series with so many different locations (I don't mean different rooms with different decorations.)
I'm no expert at acting but as a viewer if I were to describe the actors' performance in one sentence I would say "Nothing special but enjoyable."
This series is definitely worth watching, so before the second season arrives in winter, if you haven't watched the first season yet, hurry up! Even if you're not into the complexity of Wachowskis' movies, the diversity of locations and the original idea behind the sensates make it worth your while.

Very good review for a first one. I need to add that suits to my list of things to watch. It sounds intriguing. I like good song, but a good story can still rescue average acting.
So, I'll speak to the other mods and we'll let you know. Thank you so much for participating.
