Are you actively purchasing and/or selling cards during the Steam summer/winter sales?
Levels? Nah, I just use Steam to play games. My 16 year old account is only level 17 :)

Oh man, I'm so relieved. I thought I was the only dumbass who was using Steam to play games.
I don't even know what my level is and cards are things that drop in my inventory as I play games. They're cute. Some of them. Mostly doubles for some reason.

I just list the cards for sale when they drop at a price I think will hopefully sell in the next 6 months or year. Then as the pennies trickle in over the next year or so, I end up with around 1 or 2 dollars I can put towards some cheap games in one of the major Steam sales.

Yeah, it is a nice bonus. My wallet funds usually increase a bit more than that though, as I usually get some bundles (for sake of gaming) inbetween the Steam sales, and then have several hundreds of cards by farming them, which usually adds up to being able to get something from my wishlist "for free".

I have never idled a game. I just sell the cards that drop when I play games, so I don't have a huge pile of cards to sell. I also don't activate any games on my account that I am not interested in playing, even if they are free. I have a big backlog of games I want to play :)

Smart. Higher Steam level is supposed to give a higher chance to get one of them card booster packs (with 3 cards in them) when they drop for a game the account is eligible for (=all cards dropped from play-time). By now level 160 rarely gets one of them drops though.

The summer sale is 23 June 2022 — 7 July 2022; 6 days, 13 hours, and 9 min from now.

It starts the day after my birthday! I'll be having some Steam Wallet cards as gifts this year, so it is perfect timing! :)

i always save my card sets for sales because an event card is valuable to me and coupons are not. don't have any ready to go this time around but i'll be clicking through my discovery queue to get cards from that and maybe i'll actually buy a couple games since i buy a lot fewer bundles these days. i use steam trade matcher to get complete sets and then give my extra event cards to steam card exchange before it ends so i can get cards toward game badges. no buying or selling cards -- just trading.

Ah yeah, trading also exists. I use steam trade matcher myself at times, to complete sets in 1:1 trades of duplicates. Probably not gonna be crafting many badges this time though, as it gets quite tough to level, with the XP requirement increasing every 10 levels.

when do the cards come from the discover queue? when the sale is live?

Yep, when the sale is live. There of course will be announcements when that happens but also the Discovery Queue page will usually say something about cards too:

Likewise. I didn't really prepare sets (and now missing out on being able to sell event cards for 0.06 a piece before they drop in price when everyone will be getting them from discovery queues). At least this time I started farming cards some weeks ago, so now having 500+ cards to sell. :)

Just to let you know that the event cards for Steam's summer sale are active now.
If someone is wondering what that means, in short, for every badge crafted from game cards, an user gets one of the event cards (named "Mysterious card 1 - 10" until the sale starts) instead of a game coupon. With a complete set of the event cards, an user can craft an event badge, which is usually without level limit and therefore quite popular with users looking to boost their level.
Alternatively, game cards or event cards can be sold, with the demand for game cards usually somewhat higher during the summer or winter sale.
