I gain so much weight this year. I guess I really need to go to gym in some point. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I've considered going to the gym a couple of times. Not because I'm fat or want muscles, but because I have a terrible condition (or however you say that in english. Stamina maybe?). I don't actually move a lot (I ride the bike to and from the station every day I go to work / school (still 40 - 60 minutes a day) and walk from the stations to school / work, but that's about it). The reason I haven't actually gone to the gym yet is because I'm lazy (and I think it's a bit expensive). It also doesn't help that for the closest gym I have to travel about an hour (or maybe even more)...

I had the same problem. When I started going to the gym it was embarrasing tbh. I was really skinny and instead of gaining muscles, I was loosing weight. Only using those colored weights that women use. xD I was leaving the gym really tired and in a lot of pain. It was sad. I'm 1,70 and I was like around 55-56Kg when I started.
After going to a nutritionist. (I highly recommend this step) The problem was a lack of food, especially in both protein and carbohydrates.
I had to keep a high carbo diet for some months, but I finally started to gain some weight. I weight 70kg now, which is very good. I still workout ~3 times a week and drink some whey shakes, but I'm really happy with my body rn, so I don't need to go on a diet anymore. Took me about 2 years to reach that btw. It's not easy, nor fast.
In short, start with a visit to a nutritionist. They'll surely help you! If you need any other advice, lmk :)

No, but I went swimming at the beach until I was completely exhausted today. Does that count?

when i was younger i was a huge rolling lard ball. started diet and exercise, subscribed to boxing course (helped me alot with shyness and self esteem too). lost about 40 kg. put on some muscle to fill the floppy skin in excess (still ongoing). still into boxing but now im on a break.
i suggest the app "myfitnesspal" to take trace of progress. having a diary help alot too. good luck with your program.

I try to go once or twice a week with my dad for the purpose of getting stronger and gaining a bit more weight (especially in my upper-body). Right now I'm 160-165lbs (72.5-75kg) and 6'1" (183.5cm) but I want to gain 10lbs (4.5kg) and move some of my weight up from my legs and stomache to my arms and chest. The problem is that I'm just not very motivated and I don't like working out in front of others. I've tried getting into routines with dumbells at home but I tend to forget to do it around day 2.

Nah, too much hassle. That and the fact that I'm completely uninterested in growing any muscles or staying fit, made me stay away from the gym when literally every single person around me works out.
I've been kinda underweight for my whole life (partially due to being extremely short), 'till last year that I stopped smoking. That affected my eating habits, which 'caused me to gain about 10kg (that and my sedentary lifestyle).
I wish you good luck! I hope that you'll be able to gain as much weight as you want and that would make you satisfied :)

Ever since I stopped smoking pot I've gained weight and had to watch it. Which is funny because most people associate weed with "the munchies" or whatever. I found that was only in the very beginning that it made me hungry. Anyways I rabbit trailed.

The first time at the gym is always hard, don't give up. The secret is training hard and often and eat well, make a visit to a nutritionist if you have time so you can work on a better diet for your body.

no gym for me but a good amount of other stuff.
the most important thing is: do what you love.
if you hate it and you drag your ass to the gym every single time then you wont last long.
i love biking, i learned to enjoy running though the first two weeks were really horrific and i value my trusty old twin set of 10kg dumbells. but i really need to up them to 20kg each by now.
the rest is rather obvious but always important to remember.
changing your body takes time. don't give up if you don't look like dwayne johnson after just three months.
plus exercising, nutrition and resting are equally important. resting means both sleeping and days off gym.

You may want to consider tracking your calorie intake using an app like MyFitnessPal. Most people use it to lose weight and be in caloric deficit, but you can set your goals to be in a daily caloric surplus and gain weight instead. Additionally, you can also make sure your ratio of nutrition is what you want it to be, a good balance of carbs, fat, and protein.
It's very difficult to know exactly how much our bodies are taking in or how much we need to reach our goals without accurately tracking our intake and caloric output via daily resting metabolism + exercise. By keeping a daily log of everything we eat and our activity, it makes it much easier to get an idea of what is actually going on with our bodies and helps us make the right decisions to meet our goals.
I wish you the best of luck on your current fitness goals! It sounds like you have been through a lot the past couple years, and I'm sure your new exercise and nutrition routine will give you a lot more energy and fortitude to help you into a brighter future.

I second this, diet is more important than the gym itself, whether your trying to lose wait or gain muscle... Keep a track of what you eat.

This thread reminds me that I really should be getting back into the gym. Not that I'm grossly over- or under-weight, but I tire out way too easily and I really need to get my endurance back up to par.

Avoid cardio if you want to bulk, you can always cut later... But giving that your metabolism is already high (and training with weights increases it more) i doubt you will have any issues keeping the fat off... make sure you eat enough protein (and especially calories to build muscle) and sleep :P.
just a side note, if you insist on doing cardio add more calories to your diet.. i would avoid it however if you just want to gain muscle as it will burn more muscle than fat (unless its something like HITT)... Muscle is built outside the gym, just remember that :)
And enjoy the gym.

Today I started going to gym. I've been always slim all my life no matter how much I eat but this didn't bother me most of the time. I was happy with my body. I used to swim every summer non-stop for three months whole day, play volleyball, run, ride a bike until I got into college in another city. I stopped doing most of these since, yet sadly I ended up being more thin. Couple years ago I had a surgery for one of my lungs, some family issues, then graduation and unemployment, along with a 'little' depression... all affected my overall health badly. Last time I checked (after surgery) I was 55 kg, today I learned that I reached a new low, just 50 kg, phew!
And my God I feel so weak, today I was in gym (for the first time) for just 90 minutes and I was tired as hell. I wasn't able to lift my arm above my head even after couple hours. I only worked with the lightest weights. The instructor gave me a meal plan for gaining weight. I don't know whether it will actually help but I really want, seriously I need to gain at least 15 kg. I will start riding bike again on the days that I am not in the gym and eat more!
Have you ever been in a similar situation, had problems with your weight etc., maybe you can share some tips. Enjoy one little present as well while thinking.
