So I can see the controller being discounted a 40% on the main page, but as soon as I click on it, the discount isn't applied.

Anyone else can see the discount aswell?

Been waiting for this to happen for a while, definetely gonna buy it with the discount.

EDIT : It's not there anymore :(

Yeah, I consider this option, however, I'm only looking for a controller to play the games from my steam library, and I don't think any controller will be as compatible with steam games than this one.

PLUS I can pay the steam controller from my steam wallet :D

Wired 360 will work with damn near any game with controller support, if not every. There's a nice app called Controller Companion that gives full exploratory abilities with the controller. Easily replaces keyboard and mouse for every day purposes. Won't let you use a controller like a mouse for CS or anything but for big picture it's pretty sweet. The combo is still cheaper than a Steam Controller and is similarly functional.

That depends on the game. I have wired and wireless XB360 controllers and a Steam Controller. The Steam Controller isn't as good as an XB360 for things you would normally use a controller for, but the the Steam Controller can do things the XB360 controller can't do. You can play mouse and keyboard games with it, even FPS games that support a controller I find work better to use the Steam Controller in mouse mode rather than controller mode.

My advice is, if you can only get one, get the Steam Controller. If you want the best of both worlds, grab the Steam Controller and a pick up an XB360 controller on sale (I've seen the wired ones on sale for $28 USD). I think I paid $35 for a wired one a couple of years ago, and I bought a couple of wireless ones for $35 each on sale back in November.

I've had a PC in my living room setup as a DVR, and now I set it up so I can stream games from my gaming PC on my TV. It works nice and is a lot of fun playing couch coop games that way with controllers. The Steam Controller is great for games that don't support a controller if you want to play them streaming to a TV/Steam Link, but it's also nice even playing at my desk to relax back in my chair with the Steam Controller for certain games rather than hunching over a keyboard and mouse.

Thanks for taking your time posting your opinion. However, I'd like to try it out and as soon as it gets discounted ill get one with the steam wallet cash i made selling cards :D. If I don't like it i'll get an xbox one. Are both equally compatible with steam games in general?

Controller support varies by game. Check the store page to see if it supports controller or not. If it says full controller support and/or has the big picture banner down near the description that means the game can be played without having to touch the mouse or keyboard. With a controller, if you press the logo button (XBOX button or equivalent on PS3/4 controller) and hold it for a few seconds, Steam switches to Big Picture mode. If you have a Steam Link or computer hooked up to your TV with no mouse or keyboard, like I do, then you can just sit down, press the logo button and start playing.

If it says partial controller support, it usually means the the game supports controller for play, but requires mouse or keyboard interaction somewhere, although I've played some games that said partial controller support that I never had to touch the keyboard.

The Steam controller will support more games. It can emulate an XBox controller, so it can play any game the XBox controller can. It can play pretty much any game even if it doesn't natively support a controller since it has dual trackpads and the buttons can be configured to send keyboard keys.

The 360 pad is better than the Xbox One pad. (plus cheaper)

I saw a few reviews that said the same thing - that a 360 controller is better for some games. Been using the Steam Controller for months now though and I've yet to find a game that works better on a regular controller. In my experience there's always some way you can configure the SC that's better than using a regular gamepad. Might take some time to find that configuration but so far it's been worth it every time.

Just curious, what games specifically do you find is better with a regular controller?

I got Rocket League with my controller, but it's one that plays better with the XB360 controller. Pretty much any platformer works better with the XB360, and driving games.

A configuration can't change the difference in hardware. For one, the triggers on the Steam Controller have a shorter travel which makes them not as useful as the XB360 controller for driving games, but since they're dual stage they work great in other games. I still prefer the XB360 controller for platformers since the ABXY buttons and analog stick are farther in that on the XB360. If it's all I had, it would work, but it's more comfortable for me to use the XB360.

I love the Steam Controller for isometric RPGs and turn based strategy games. I sit back in my chair, relax and play instead of hunched up over the keyboard and mouse. I'm currently playing the original Fallout games and a little bit of Civ V. With XCOM 2 out, I'm thinking of playing XCOM again since I never finished it due to a supposedly rare bug that happened to me twice. I bought Enemy Within this past sale, and maybe the bug is fixed. XCOM has native support for the XB360, but I have a feeling I'll like it better using the Steam Controller as a mouse/KB controller.

Whatever feels most comfortable I guess, best thing about PC after all. :)

Personally, I've found I play better in Rocket League with the SC than a 360 controller due to the rear grips. Easy access to things like handbrake or boost. In driving games I usually end up doing gyro controls, obviously not as good as a wheel but still far better than using a thumbstick. I agree about the triggers travel though, do wish they was a little longer.

I have the controller since I pre-ordered it. At its current state, I do not recommend it. The controller feels very awkward and the only cool thing about it, is the gyroscope.

Yes, but you have to set it up in Big Picture. A new feature recently added for non Steam games is that you no longer have to launch it from the Steam client after setting up the controller profile. Certain features of the Steam Controller require you to be in Big Picture, like having the left track pad open an overlay menu with multiple functions. All basic functions that don't require it though.

I think it's only available in the US. There's a PCGamer article that mentions about the deal So, either it is US only or the deal hasn't gone live yet. If only it's available to ship to Malaysia, I'd buy it :3

It's not US only, it's available everywhere where Steam Controller is shipped by Steam.

that is US + most of Europe.

Looks like a price glitch (or promo as madjoki described above). This has been asked before on reddit and here's why not:

Software has produce once, sell many type of sale which has NO additional cost per copy. Thus some developers can go deep discounts as well as 95% where they only cut their profit margin.

On the other hand Steam (as well as iPhone) does 'not' produce the hardware. They rather have deals with hardware manufacturers and sell them after adding their profit. This sale model have a fixed manufacturing cost for every unit that Steam has to pay for.

So unless the profit margin of Steam on Steam hardware is more than 50% (I highly doubt that) then they can 'not' apply the consumer expected discounts such as 40%. Let me ask you this way, have you seen a PC hardware or Phone that's relatively new and has been sold for good discounts? Or did you only see decent discounts on hardware that is outdated?

Well, a 40% discount drops the price to 33€ in my region, which leaves the price on the same level as Xbox controller (non discounted) which it's it's main competitor. I'm pretty sure they'd still get a great profit, plus if they didn't sell as many units as they expected, an ocasional sale could increase future sellings if their product is good and gets reviewed by those users.

On the other hand, do you really believe an iPhone wouldn't get Apple enough profit margin having sales even at 70% discount? If they don't do it is because people is stupid enough to spend that ludicrous amount of money on a phone, not because they woulndn't make enough. Also one of the main reasons why loads of iPhone users get an iPhone is because of ELITISM. If Apple made huge sales, their moronic customers wouldn't feel special enough.

As a long time Android users, I couldn't agree more with your remarks on iPhone. Apple is a design company (not the manufacturer as some like to believe) that has biggest profit margin among phone manufacturers.

Also XCOM 2 bundle is confirmed so it is basically buy the controller for full price and get a discount on XCOM 2 in overall sense.
