Just what the title says, good Role-playing games and games that have a good story. Open world games are nice too. Thanks in advance guys! And I know there are threads about this already, sorry about that

Any and every Bioware RPG, KOTOR especially. And Baldur's Gate.

Seriously though the KOTOR games have an absolutely great story with really good rpg elements. However i bought KOTOR 1 on steam and have to say don't play it without a controller. Keyboard controls are sooooo bad.

I don't know if it counts as an RPG, but my most favorite game is Okami on the PS2. (or wii)

I know it's on console, but still.. It's a great game that focuses on the art and story. Also the music is wonderful..
I always calm down and feel great after a playthrough.

A very good suggestion indeed, and one of my favourite games. There certainly are RPG elements in it, at least as much as there are in Zelda games.

If you don't mind older games, try "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream". It is a point-and-click game, with multiple endings.

Neverwinter Nights 2 and Knights of the Old Republic 2 are the best modern computer RPGs for story. Sadly, most of the games nowadays are more focused on other aspects... Or you get Bioware syndrome where there's lots of dialogue but very little actual plot or character development. EDIT: I forgot about The Witcher series, great games you should check out.

You'd probably be better off asking for suggestions on GOG than Steam, GOG has many a great story-driven RPG, and they're currently giving away two of them (Realms of Arkania and its sequel) to anyone that completes their annual survey: http://tinyurl.com/8mcuemd

For RPGs, I'd suggest trying out the original Fallouts. If you enjoyed Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas, you'll find that quite a lot of the theme is actually taken from the original ones. Different, but really enjoyable.

I can't recommend Deus Ex: Human Revolution enough. You get this very original story, and a very RPGesque game with a lot of action and/or stealth. One of the best surprises I had.

The Darksiders series is also pretty neat in term of story. The first is limited in it's RPG elements, but the second is a little different mechanic-wise and looks more like a 3rd person RPG.

Bastion is a very good game too that might fill your need for story. It's probably one of the best ever.

Dead Space is a pretty unique horror series too, similar to Resident Evil. You should check them both if you're into that genre.

If you don't need the RPG part so much in your request, you should check out the Alan Wake series which is heavily driven by the story. You might want to check Okami, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy, No More Heroes, and Amnesia: the Dark Descent. All have very original stories like nothing you've seen before.

Any adventure game (point 'n' click) by Lucas Art. Monkey Island, Grim Fandango... and others like The Longest Journey.
Besides those games, I enjoyed: Mass Effect (1 and 2), Dragon Age, Warcraft (the RPGs, not MMORPG), Alan Wake, Chrono Trigger, Hotel Dusk (DS) and the Halo series on Xbox.

If you are interested in VN, there are also a few good ones around. Someone made a thread about them recently, might be worth checking out.

Elder Scrolls (If you haven't played Morrowind you should!), Fallout series, Deus Ex, Dragon Age, Dungeon Siege are just some. Although if you're looking to play with friends you should look into Borderlands and Dead Island, they're both solid single player but really shine when played with friends.

The Longest journey is a nice game, Beyond Good and Evil is another great title.

Final Fantasy VII (2012), square just polished it so that it can run on modern OS, but also infected it with securom, but its a good game, but me myself gonna wait for at least GOG version of it, cos i doesn't like securom.

The best RPGs that you can play are the ones that were released on the old SNES. Lufia, Zelda, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Time, Secrets of Evermore etc. You can always use an emulator to revive these games on your pc ;)

have you tried those games? with a cheap SNES imitation controller for the PC and an emulator it's a good experience. Most old games have very solid gameplay.
