So today this guy with a clean Steamrep profile added me willing to trade...

Chat

tldr: He wanted to trade his key by mine by sending them "simultaneously" via chat. I sent him an invalid key, intending to send the correct one only if his was valid. It wasn't. =]

Should I do anything about it? Does this make me a scammer as well? :P

Well, I felt the need to do that when he came up with "before you say the key say GO". It didn't sound like something a fair trader would use. :P

Did you thought that he might have done the same thing for you?

I was about to say this lol.

Anyways if he was a real scammer, glad you avoided it.

Sure, I considered this possibility even before doing that. But I didn't want his key bad enough to risk. :P
Moreover, he was the one who added me to trade. Considering I haven't posted anywhere saying I was looking forward to trade or even that I had games for that, it was already a bit suspicious for me.

Well, if both of you think this way..because it's possible that he did the same because of the same reason. Does that mean that scamming is the price of progress?

This was a great move by you indeed, I myself must remember this in the future... However having a quick copy paste explaining the reasoning of giving the other partner an invalid key if it happens to be that his/hers works!

And of course it does not. If he/she would have had any intention of giving you a real key, then more grumpiness would have occurred.
However, smart thinking and really a quite exciting read! ^_^
