Basically you can get 5$ in HB wallet.

What I would like to know is whether first-timers can refer themselves, essentially cutting out the time of looking for another first-timer for mutual benefit?

So, has anyone by any chance referred themselves and got 5$ in the wallet?

Edit: Well, it seems that "Acojonancio" tried it and it didn't work [thanks for the heads up]. Also, XCom 2 keys are currently unavailable.

I doubt it's possible, but since I'm not a first-timer I can't test it out :/
Though I do appreciate the 5$ coupon just for subscribing

It all depends on how sloppy they were.

IIRC, referral links are not allowed on the site. Best to remove it.

Edit: If there is another first-timer who would like to cooperate on this [February bundle] feel free to leave me a note.

I don't think asking for "cooperation" in a referral system is allowed neither

It's not direct rule breaking, I guess, since he hasn't posted his link and the topic isn't just solely begging for "cooperation" on the referral.

The mutual cooperation was just in case they coded it well.

I'm not that willing to spend 11$ just for XCom 2, but if I can refer somehow myself and save almost half the cost then why not?

I didn't ask for free stuff - hence cooperation - nor posted a ref link, but I'll amend the OP.

Please read the Steamgifts Guidelines.

Referral links are not allowed in the community, and if you choose to post a link, please be sure all referral codes have been removed (http://www.example.com?ref=12345 to http://www.example.com).

If I'll keep seeing annoying referrals instead of real cooperation then I'll close this thread and delete the one on Steam.

I just wanted to get it for a nice price and maybe help another user along the way :/

I just tried it with a dummy email (didn't go thru with purchase) it acknowledged the referral link and said I would receive $3 wallet (not $5). Keep in mind tho that wallet funds can only be used in the store and not on bundles or the monthly bundle.

You mean self-referral?
Can you point me to where it says that? Thanks.

Just seen it, thanks for pointing it out [didn't scroll down at first].

Strange though that its different from what it says on the settings page. Less appealing.

Here is page explaining it will give $5 and will not work on bundles just in the store.

Yea, it says $3 for me too, a little disappointed with the difference although better than none at all.

Would it be your first HB monthly by any chance?

You can't.

Trades should not be posted or organized on the site.

I bought using my own referal link, that's not working, also they are out of XCOM 2 keys.

Thank you for checking it out.

As XCom 2 is the selling factor of the bundle I'm sure they'll add more keys later**.

I tried my refferal link with my friend and it didn't worked.
I may have done something wrong...but it's just $3 I don't really care.

Is your friend new subscriber?

Indeed, I think I did wrong in telling him to sign in from another link, and then buy the HB using my refferal link.

To get your $5 reward, anyone you refer must follow your referral link, and sign up from there. If they don't follow the process, we are unable to retroactively apply the credit, or offer refunds.

The -10% coupon can only be applied once by a new monthly subscriber and I really don't think that saving $1 on one monthly bundle is worth the trouble of creating multiple accounts, not to mention that it would get kind of obvious after a while because I'm pretty sure you would run out of different payment options quite fast. And no, as far as I know you do not get another coupon if you re-subscribe.

Probably not a good idea to try to recruit people in the GroupBuys Forum unless you don't actually participate in Group Buys and thus don't care. They are usually pretty strict and have banned people for less.

Wasn't actually recruiting people.

The OP originally described how first-time and returning subscribers could get 5$ in HB wallet. I intended for the thread to help first-timers buy the monthly bundle cheaply - which is what the group is for - by doing it in pairs.

Unfortunately, as you can see from the posts in the thread, users have taken the opportunity to post their ref links and benefit themselves.

It might be ok anyway because it's in General Discussion but considering I've seen a few people (some temporily) get banned from GB I wanted to mention it anyway ;)

Thanks for the heads up anyway; I've clarified the deletion request in the OP.
You might want to remove the link so no one will post another useless ref link.

I'm just sorry I didn't find someone to buy with before it turned that way.

Done ;) As far as I know you can close threads on Steam yourself unless it works different than the Trading subforum on game boards.

I noticed something when I was testing the cancellation of the monthly:

"If you pause, you'll lose these subscriber perks for one month. If you cancel, you'll lose them completely!"

"Your curated monthly bundle of games"
"10% off in the Humble Store"
"Special access to the Humble Trove of games"

WTF is "Special access to the Humble Trove of games"?! That sounds like some redundant and made up shit.

Maybe its those games made for HB - like February's "Oh Deer" and the like.
