The original Zelda for NES in quite a few ways. Obviously levels aren't randomized though.

If you are looking for a roguelike experience then give Dungeons of Dredmor a shot. Sword of the Stars: The Pit is an action roguelike that is future based (technology and guns) and is pretty good for the price as well.

FTL is definitely a fantastic game, but not all that similar to BoI

To be honest, after playing for ~90 hours I kinda realized it's an over-stylized (in a good way) bullet hell with like a bamillion different power ups. So I would play any other top down shooter, really. Ultratron and Droid Assault work for a bit, but obviously they are no where near as deep.

In some ways, Beat Hazard. Amazing twin stick shooter with enemy waves generated based on the music you choose to play with from your library. You can buy upgrades and use a certain amount of them each time you play a song. Get the Ultra DLC for lots more if you like the game.

Spelunky HD is coming on the 8th, you should check it out
