There is a scam going on where people claim that they are Microsoft reps and that your computer has some malware that does something bad. Last time I had one of those calls, I wasted 30min of that persons time pretending that I was running Win 3.1, and that I was completely computer illiterate (I was cooking, so it's not like I would have spent that time doing anything productive anyway). These people are calling from foreign countries, so it can't be free for them to waste that much time on the phone (i ended up being sent to 3 different people, all having very common US-names, yet speaking with a rather obvious non-US accent).
