Hi there,

So for reasons that don't really matter right now, I've sadly been completely out of the whole comic book/graphic novel "scene" for quite some time and only recently did I get back into it and I was looking for recommendations from you fine people on some of the cool stuff that's come out in say, the past 5 years or thereabouts.

I suppose I should mention that I'm not too interested in super-hero stuff and would instead prefer something sci-fi and/or horror or even fantasy (if it includes elements of the aforementioned genres) instead, but it doesn't necessarily have to be that, so long as it's good ^^

Here's a couple of giveaways for Dreadout for taking the time to read this post:

Thank you kindly :)

I've heard people talk about this one before. The art doesn't really appeal to me much (too many fantasy elements ^^), but I'll grab volume 1 to see how the story goes, cause that's the most important thing anyway. Thanks for the recommendation :)

You can trust in Brian K. Vaughan :) I just saw that he is the writer.

Thanks for pointing that out, I can't believe I hadn't noticed that before-- Y: The Last Man was brilliant :D

That looks really interesting, but sadly I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere in my country. May have to import and there's always shipping costs included with that, so sadly it'll have to wait for now. I'll definitely make a note of it for later, though. Thank you so much! :)

If you are into sci-fi then there is plenty of good stuff by Warren Ellis - Transmetropolitan, Lazarus Churchyard, Ocean, etc. I read Caliban by Garth Ennis recently which is good horror sci-fi. East of West is great sci-fi series that is ongoing and somebody mentioned Saga that is worth a read. Manifest Destiny is a nice comic if you prefer your horror more Lovecraftian.

I have Transmetropolitan, etc-- like I said, it's mostly stuff from the past 5 years that I've been missing out on.
I'm usually not big on frontier and western stuff at all, but I will admit that both East of West and Manifest Destiny look pretty cool (love me some Lovecraftian horror), so I'm definitely gonna give those two a shot. Thanks for all the recommendations! :D

Ah, good "old" European comics-- love me some of those. Orbital looks right up my alley and I'll make a note for Logicomix as well-- thanks for the recommendations :)

I'll be giving volume 1 of Saga a shot, The Walking Dead I'd love to read, but there's so many volumes out already I'd blow through my entire budget with a quickness ^^ (I'll make a note of it for when I'm financially more stable though), Locke & Key I already got volume 1 and I'm loving it so far and Tintin is not really my thing, alas.
Thank you for all the recommendations! :)

Hmm, maybe Chew about a cop-turned-federal-agent who don't really like food because eating it gives him visions how the food was made. Detective story, with side-dish of comedy and humor (or maybe comedy with side-dish of detective story).

And maybe Crossed. Just don't google it in work, it is heavy NSFW material. And maybe even NSFLife...
But, there is free webcomic Crossed: Wish You Were Here which IIRR is not as fucked up as others can be...

Need to restart my comics-hype, lately I just check what's going on with The Punisher and is Garth Ennis wrote something (he finished Red Team "Season 2" lately - realistic story about cops, not sci-fi themed, no horror or fantasy so not sure if that would fit your tastes at all - so that's in my comics future)....

I've been reading Red Team: Double Tap, Center Mass - I didn't suggest it because of the theme but it is excellent.
