I'm thinking in extending SGtools with a new and huge functionality, but before implementing it I would like to know if people really is interested in the idea and will use it.

The idea is to make a more flexible filter for private giveaways, but what does that mean?

You'll be able to create a set of rules for your giveaway and input a private giveaway URL. People (and you) will use "login with steam" to identify themselves and the tool will give him the url if and only if they met all the restrictions.
Once a user is given a giveaway URL, he'll be flagged as a valid entry for that giveaway. When the giveaway finish the creator will be able to check if the winner is flagged as valid, if that is not the case you'll be sure that he got the url following the rules.

What kind of rules/filters will you be able to use?

    - Min/Max Steamgifts level

    - Min/Max raw sent gifts value
    - Min/Max real sent gifts value

    - Min/Max raw won gifts value
    - Min/Max real won gifts value

    - Min/Max raw sent gifts value on Public/Private/Groups giveaways
    - Min/Max real sent gifts value on Public/Private/Groups giveaways
    - Min/Max raw won gifts value on Public/Private/Groups giveaways
    - Min/Max real won gifts value on Public/Private/Groups giveaways

    - Maximum number of entries (number of times the tool will give the url)

    - Your suggestions / ideas.

    - Sent games / Won games ratio factor
    - Sent CV / Won CV ratio factor
    - Sent Real CV / Won real CV ratio factor

    - Whitelisted game since X days

The giveaway creator will be able to see in the tool's giveaway page a list of the people who got the giveaway link and a tool to check if an entry is valid as detailed before.

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome, even those who think that this tool will be useless :)

some custom filters suggestions:

- user owns X game / user doesn't own X game
for cases like this or da:o awakening.
also useful to filter out people that own a base game and want to enter a complete pack (ie: xcom, da:o ultimate).

- less than X game in library / more than X games in library
prevent people with too many/too few games from entering the giveaway.

- less than X games in wishlist / more than X games in wishlist
same as library size, but for wishlist

- game wishlisted before X date
only enter the giveaway if the game was added to the wishlist before the specified date.

- last vac ban X days ago
would be nice to have some flexibility, not just block access to everyone with a vac ban even if it's 4 years old.

- last multiple win X days ago
same as the vac ban filter, but for multiple wins. it's impossible to remove them if the ga creator doesn't cooperate.

The majority of those filters are on the todo list already :D

The only "problematic" ones are the related to wishlists, since there is no api to get those and they must be parsed from the website.
Those filters will be part of the custom rule ones, since they are more advanced.

All are good suggestions, but "wishlisted before X date" is by far the most appealing one (to me). Too bad it's more complex to implement, and I assume - ensure doesn't break with any changes to Steam website.

Concerning flexibility on the multiple wins and VAC I would suggest that if and when you do this that there's a choice to use the base requirements without any time limitation (like they are now): all activated, no multiple wins and no VAC bans. I've noticed that these above mentioned requirements are used a lot by SGT giveaway creators most probably because these are gates against some of the worst offenders that Steamgifts and Steam have to offer: people that re-gift,re-sell and/or re-trade won gifts and against cheaters.

According to Steam.db there are 3 690 312 VAC bans and 248 455 Game bans to date.

https://steamdb.info/stats/bans/

Concerning flexibility it would also be nice to have two extra requirements: No Game ban and no Trade ban. Game bans are cheating bans and Trade bans are self-explanatory. I recently was impersonated by someone that impersonated at least 2 dozen other SG traders and the same impersonator has been banned from Steamrep with numerous extra reports. Recently he has been Trade banned by Valve. I personally really wouldn't like that someone like that would win a giveaway from me, someone that deliberately uses my SG trade rep and Steam profile and that of other SG traders to bring harm to SG and Steam users.

Major upvote for "user owns game X / user doesn't own game X"

All this requires is downloading user's game list and checking the AppIDs for matches. So no need to create a database of games or anything like that, just need a setting: 'user must own (or not own) certain AppID(s)" that can be entered as a list of numbers.

If user's game list is not public then the user is not eligible to get the giveaway link since this requirement cannot be checked.

same as the vac ban filter, but for multiple wins. it's impossible to remove them if the ga creator doesn't cooperate.

There was (or there is, because I've won all their games already) this developer that used to make 50+ copies giveaways everyday, multiple separate giveaways with 50+ copies.

I woke up one day to find out I had won twice one of their games. Tried to contact them by: 1) Giveaway page; 2) Other giveaways pages; 3) E-mail of company; 4) Facebook of the company; 5) Facebook of company; 6) Facebook group of the company; 7) Personal e-mail of owners; and 8) Personal facebook of owners.

All in that order, always waiting for almost a week between one and another. They never replied.

What was told to me by a mod is that I should not mark as received, but not mark as not received as well.

Now I have a "1" notification up there forever.

If I could only mark it and forget it without being afraid of people misunderstanding. :/

I took a quick look into the possibilites to create giveaways with this tool and haven't seen the one I was searching for. It may give people some interesting options for events (not sure if I would really use it but I think it is interesting anyway). Is there a way for SGTools to check if an user has checked the SGTools check of another giveaway? Let us say we have giveaway A and B and I want to force the people to decide. Can I tell SGTools something like: Check if user X has completed the toolcheck for giveaway A. If yes he will not get a link. If no he will get the link. And the same the other way around for giveaway B.
This way users could make those narration events with "meaningful" decisions because you can't go back and check the alternative. As you make the giveaways one after another you probably would have to be able to edit your SGTools conditions.

Is it clear what I mean? I'm actually quite confident in my english but this I find hard to explain.

Yea, that is the basic idea. But if someone makes a simple text adventure with just three choices it would either take maaaannny groups or it would drag on for really long. So a SGTools based help would be simpler if the tool is able to perform the necessary check which at the moment it probably can't.

Awesome, so now I have another question. I've tried syncing on here and on sgtools, and for some reason, my CV level on here won't match sgtools. Here will show I'm at level 8.42, and when I sync on sgtools it'll show 8.42 on the synced correctly page, but then when I go to real CV it'll show a level around $30 higher than what I'm actually at, and a CV that matches that level instead of the sg level. Any ideas?

Most probably you have a giveaway in the close range between being considered bundled and unbundled. Since the time that steamgifts reports for bundle dates is inaccurate in the range of hours it can be considered unbundled for sgtools and bundled for steamgifts.

If you identify which is it, we can correct the offset of hours.

This Natural Selection 2 GA in considered bundled by the tool but it gave me full CV. Yesterday I had a discussion with an SG user regarding giveaways of free games. His lack of respect with the people warning the creator about how he could be suspended etc, triggered my alarms so I used sgtools. The guy was a systematic 'cheater' of SG. I knew about two non activated games but with sgtools I could find a third one more more old.

I told him, I double checked him and another user, on the same discussion, told him too about how he/shee could see the non activated games too! So I guess that guy was more than once time reported and today is suspended for two weeks, however, this guy has learned his lesson and now... His profile is private :[

I didn't know that setting the profile into private section made you "invulnerable" to the SGtools checking tools, now I',m sad because this guy is going to start again in a couple of weeks :(

As MuIIins told you, a private profile won't ever pass "not activated rule", so if you set a giveaway with that rule (everybody does) he won't be able to pass it without turning the profile to public.
And if he changes back to public the tool will see his not activated wins.

If he changes them to not received to sync, the tool will log his not received and in the future he'll be permabanned,

Knsys; does this mean that when dishonest persons try to cheat SGT giveaways by doing things like I showed you on that image that you will know automatically about this cheating and who does this?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I can check every sync for "marked as not received" games. There is nothing automated because the nature of it, every case is a different thing and some seems suspicious but in the end they are legit.

Already 3 tickets to ban people have been supplied to support, but they need CG's approval to begin banning for that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

We organize our 2hu rants from time to time and privately decide who should be reported for rules violations, and which cases are valid. There's no way to implement a way to do all of that automatically, but yeah, people are getting permabanned now.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The people that are getting permabanned are a few dishonest persons that are cheating or trying to cheat the system. I have had 2 such persons to date and just for the hell of it I will give you an example: I had in one of my SGT giveaways the following reqs: all activated, no multiple wins, no VAC bans and a win/sent gifts ratio of 1/1. I had one invalid entry that had a ratio in the vicinity of 250 won and 5 gifted, 3 non activations and 1 multiple win. So he cheated 3/4 requirements.

I didn't shed one tear knowing the user in question would be and now is permabanned and my sentiment is more like good riddens.

I also blacklisted him and blocked him on Steam. Those that think to cheat the system by fiddling with things like activations or asking the link to a buddy or any other way must know that when they are caught (not if but when) they will no longer have the possibility to join these giveaways.

Hey knsys,

I made my first SGTool GA yesterday, so first I want to say it's a great service!
But I came across something weird, hope you can enlighten me -
I've made this GA to cap the number of entries, first it was 250, but in the end it reached 251. After a while I set it to 256, and again it reached 257. In the valid entries page it says "Every entry is legit!". So what am I missing? Maybe I accidentally used it once and it's counting it too?

Also, it seems to get the date wrong. In the management panel it's listed as "Finished Giveaways", but the giveaway has still ~4 hours to go.
It uses EST, which isn't my time zone so it's pretty confusing to understand who entered when. Can you add an option to set it to the user's time zone?

Dear knsys,

I'm REALLY sorry if these have already been suggested, I tried to read all previous posts but after 70 posts I'm phoning it in.
First and foremost a guide on how to use the custom advanced filters would be great. I realize that they're advanced for a reason but a good chunk of people have rudimentary or zero coding knowledge & thus will struggle with using them.

Would it at all be possible to filter by 'giveaways sent in past xx days' or perhaps a 'giveaways sent since xx date' ?
Probably wildly ambitious, but '<value> nonbundled sent since <time period>' (e.g. at least $30 nonbundled sent in past 90 days) would such a filter be excessively irksome to create or actually possible ?

SGTools is bloody lovely, I'm among the many who really appreciate it & it lets us use SG in a much more precise manner. The ads I get on it are unobtrusive & fairly relevant so additional thanks for the clean layout.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Don't worry, it has already been suggested before.
The response is that is not feasible, since I don't store the giveaways of everybody, so it's imposible to make the calculations without reparsing everything everytime.

Giveaways are greater than a million, so yeah, not going to cache that with my current server.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Dose this mean that a variable for the date of the users last won giveaway would also be unfeasible? I'd love to be able to make a custom filter to limit a giveaway to people that haven't won in, a mouth, for example. (or however else I could think to use this data)

I haven't read the suggestions, but here's mine. Should be simple to implement:

  • Number of Steam games in library

Bonus points (may not be simple/possible to implement)

  • Number of unplayed games in library (yes, it would be nice to filter out "idled for cards," but that gets trickier)

Very simple. Sometimes I like to give games to people who will play them, not add them to their collection or to their enormous backlog.

I think may this function is not realy wanted for SG because many ppl just only will give the best proportion between CV and Real Cost, then many ppl will offer just game for raise their lvl. but many times you found a nice game to give with a great value and SG gives realy nothing and you finish disapointed for that. Anyway I bought 4 Oribital Gear, that is a decent game and SG have not on their DB for do a giveaway, that was dissapointing realy. It's not there because it's easy to check on steamgifts itself. The value is the number of points, and if it's bundled, you just need to multiply it for 0.15 and you have the real cv that will get you.

Since sgtools doesn't store app prices, it would need to check steamgifts either way to do that.

I'm experimenting with the range operator and it doesn't seem to work the way I expect. In one giveaway (linked in this thread) I use the following custom rule:

!(num_sent==1&&num_won==6..10)

I would have expected that users with number of wins between 6 and 10 won't be able to join, but I still have three entries for users with 7, 8 and 10 wins. None of them won in the last few days, so it's not a case of having less than 6 wins and than winning more. Is it wrong use of this operator on my side, or were they doing something fishy? Note that the invalid entries list doesn't list any users.

Hi Yirg,

That rule means "not let users that has sent exactly one game AND their number of wins are between 6 and 10". If that is what you thought and you got some users that doesn't seem to fulfill the requirements, send me their usernames and I'll check it.

An idea for a Whitelist/Blacklist cleaner

With whitelists limited to 1000 users, cleanup can be necessary in some cases. Doing this manually would take ages, so I fully support the suggestion. Probably the same filters used for giveaways can be used for such cleanup.

Sgtools can't access user's steamgifts whitelist or blacklist, so it's not possible.
That would need a userscript that takes the list and then checks on sgtools, but with 1000 users it could be a massive impact.

For example, I win a game, and then at a later stage it appears in a bundle, and I give that same game away, does SGTools pick it up as regifting?
I have a key I want to make a GA for, but already have won this game on SG, so am curious.

SGTools only cares about not activated and multiple wins. There is nothing wrong in winning a game and giving another copy later, in fact is quite common between contributors.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think it would be interesting to see another added layer of "potential regifts" of the games that were not activated and the user made a giveaway after the win for the same game. Minor thought, but it could help users decide on who to report, since support deletes regifts IIRC, and so if the user has regifts on profile, it means they probably haven't been suspended for nonactivations.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But if the users really wanted to defraud that way, they still could, simply by selecting as "activated" but still using that key for their own GAs, etc.
For me, I don't think there is any one way to block all fraudulent activities if users wanted to, despite the best efforts of support, and the greater community as a whole.

You can manually check that once you see that sgtools detects some non-activated wins on his profile.
The rule breaking is not activating the won gifts, regifting is awful, but the steamgifts ban will be for not activating the gift.

Multiple wins/duplicates is not the same as regifting keys.

It seems like you're getting the help that you need, but for future reference you should ask for help in this thread to help keep things organized.

Hi there, I have a problem: my first SGT protected train of sorts has 3 wagons, all GAs have ended now. Checking manually, SGT claims all entries are OK for the first two, the third though has a startling number of invalids, close to 40% of the total entries.

I posted the train in SGT protected form in that thread and nowhere else. However, I'd like to make sure there is no problem, situation or whatnot that may be leading to false positives.

Hopefully this is the right place and form to ask for help. If not, please let me know what I should do.

edit: just spotted what looks like a discrepancy in the SGT Entries count.
The dashboard is saying "URL given 539 times", but the SGTools Entries List returns only 434 usernames who were given the GA URL. What gives?

Hi, the problem is that third giveaway ends later than the protected one, so every entry that entered rightfully after protected giveaway ended is marked as invalid.

If you want to protect a train, all wagons have to finish at the same time, or make the protected one the longer. If you want to report it, I can manually verify entries who are valid.

Thanks for looking into it! I don't understand though: the second GA, which checks out OK, ended within 5-6 minutes of the fhird, and both closed about two days later than the gateway - why the difference?

Because the entries on the steamgifts giveaway are not the same. Invalid entries checks all the entries in the giveaway and compares them with valid entries.

Right now valid entries are those people who got the url until the protected giveaway finishes.

I see, thanks for clearing that up. Would you mind checking the entries manually?

I'm thinking most if not all of those invalids ought to be actually good entries - but I'd like to make sure. Assuming the invalids are listed according to the time of entry, I'm seeing some late entrants are not listed among the invalid entries. I'm guessing they may have passed the check at a previous time but without entering any GA, does that make sense to you?

I am trying to make a Darksiders Franchise giveaway with SGtools but I am getting this error when I copy-paste the steamgifts link: " Error: Not a giveaway URL .
The giveaway link is this one: https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/xxxxx/darksiders-franchise-pack

Had the same thing when I made a GA about an hour ago. Didn't bother then.

Remove the S from HTTPS until I find time to apply the new https base url for steamgifts.
