For some people it was the co-op thing. For me, I think it was "open-world FPS with RPG-lite progression and loot drops" at a time when nobody else was really doing that. Nowadays that's pretty standard stuff, but I don't remember there being a lot of other games like that when Borderlands 1 launched.

I definitely wouldn't have finished the first one if it wasn't for playing coop with vc.

Same. Felt "ok" at best, maybe the sequel is better or maybe it's not the game for me.

more and more people like simple repetitive things that require little thought or effort. thats why mmos are huge. go to place x, do the same button clicks for 30 minutes, come back to a hub to see some numbers go up or a +3 change to a weapon and then do it all over again. borderlands is basically an mmo for people who hate other people, and can only barely stand 1 or 2 of their friends.

1000%
I tried playing it, but quit after about an hour because it literally was walking to menu after menu, shooting some shit, then going back to more menus. Like the world's first and only first person spreadsheet.

The thing with Borderlands is that it's a caricature. So, like all jokes, it should be short... which is totally fails at.
This is how game parodies should be: https://duty-calls.en.uptodown.com/windows 👀

Soccer is incredibly popular in my country and I just don't get what's so interesting about it, it's just people kicking a ball back and forth. I can understand that sports can be exciting to watch, but how popular soccer is in particular baffles me.

For most people interested in football it's not about what's happening on the field but what's happening in the stadium. It's a tribal thing, "where you belong to a group" kind of thing. Sure the scores are important but seeing those other suckers suffer is way more important.

nevertheless YouTube every now and then will suggest something that you totally ignore and is somewhat interesting

uh, gotta find it. Wikipedia says we have a version

but never heard/seen. drank a lesser alcoholic version, tho, and it was awesome.

The appeal of PewDiePie was more so back in the day when he was doing lets plays and he was rather crude and entertaining to young teens and such. Of course theres still part of the audience that enjoys his new content but hes gained even more traction as sort of a meme now. Theres also videos that theorise he had an advantage due to the YT algorithm back in the day, since he moved around a lot he would be on the featured videos for multiple countries

I just happened to stumble upon something like this today when I was watching the news at the gym. I saw that some K-pop group called BTS was touring the US and Europe and that all their shows are in huge demand/sold out. I don't get why they're so popular overseas when most of the fans can't understand the language (Korean), yet they're screaming their lungs out at the concert.

Why the N64 controller gets so much hate.
In the past week alone I've heard jokes about how bad it was, needing 3 hands to press buttons etc. multiple times and I just never had a problem with it. Besides playing Mario Party and spinning the joystick so fast repeatedly (for hours on end) that it'd wear my skin down p badly..but part of that was on me suuuper tryharding and playing all day. Lil 'ol me had tiny hands and still hit the buttons fine growing up. The controller itself was (and still is) overall comfortable to me.

Oh god, the spinning joysticks in Mario Party. It's like that game was designed specifically to destroy controllers.

Play some Turok with that N64 controller and then play Goldeneye. Two highly different control schemes. It'll confuse you, I guarantee it.
As odd as the controller was, at least games were developed with it in mind. But the real bad part of that controller was the analog stick and how easily it wore out with some games.
Some months ago I bought a USB N64 controller solely for N64 emulation. It's well-built but not suited for anything other than N64 games.

Yeah I read on some forums people mentioning the stick wearing out, we might've got lucky. Own the same 4 controllers since '96 with thousands and thousands of hours of playtime, fairly rough with 'em while playing and never had any break (or even go wonky).
I've been tempted to get a usb one to try with some of my 3D platformers esp, shame it doesn't work well but can see how that'd be the case.

People's desire to keep living. Naaah, just kidding... No, not kidding at all. I mean, I do kinda get why some other people would wanna live, but I don't get why people want me to keep on trying to live so much. <.<
I really don't get why people like Dramas and Tragedies so much. I mean, fiction is supposed to be escapist from reality, isn't it? So why do people like watching fiction that is identical to what they can see all around them. It's pretty depressing... :/

It's cool when things get resolved or at least a message is passed on. Otherwise, yeah I agree with you. That's why I don't "get" sad songs. I'm already sad enough as it is. I don't need a catalyst to bring it all out.

Basically anything that is based on Jersey Shore, almost every country has it's own version of that TV show and people (even mature +-30 years old) are addicted to those shows like normal people are addicted to game of thrones...

I don't get flat earthers, anti vaxxers, neonazis, warming deniers, religious fanatics and radical extremists.

Yeah, voice actors are voice actors. They might be good at their craft, but that doesn't make them interesting as normal actors or suddenly people you'd watch in a series of videos. Ashly is the voice of Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn, and Tiny Tina as well I think, so she's talented.
But outside of that, who knows...

Youtube/Let's Play personalities with fandoms. Sure, I like a couple of motherfuckers - VoidBurger, hbomb, contrapoints; I have a longstanding fondness for Jim Sterling despite his.... everything.... - but dudes like markiplier and jacksepticeye have fandoms that are absolutely coocoo bananas, to the point where I feel bad for those guys.
Otherwise? Fromsoft games.
re: Hey Ash - I remember that series being very old, and I'm not surprised a lot of the videos aged badly. I have fond memories of the BioShock one, though

I remember trying to watch their videos long time ago but they weren't interesting really.I definetely have stumbled upon this kind of thing many times. Even though it is so common for me I do not remember the names or what they were about. Because they weren't memorable in any way, most of the time I just say "and this one goes to the trash..." then skip it.

So a week ago, YouTube started recommending me some HAWP videos. HAWP is short for Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin' and it's a brainchild of siblings Anthony and Ashly Burch (one is a Borderlands 1/2 writer and other is a voice actress). It's a web-series of short comedy sketches making fun of games, industry, and whatnot.
Long story short, I decided to finally check out some of the videos and holy cannoli......this has to be most painfully unfunny stuff I've ever seen in my life. Ashly talks way too fast, bugs her eyes out randomly for no reason, Anthony has zero acting skills and every sketch ends up with some speaker blasting chiptune noise.
I sat there confused for a while. How is this even remotely funny? Maybe I'm witnessing a peak performance of ironic comedy (so-unfunny-that-now-it's-funny)? Do some of us get teleported in some near identical parallel Earth where unfunny stuff tend to be funny for a few minutes? Stranger things have happened. For one reason or another, no matter how hard I tried, I just didn't get any of the stuff I've seen there.
Anyway, that got me curious. Have you ever stumbled upon some web-series/artist/TV show that you just don't get? Do share with me, I'm curious to know.
P.S. Just to give you an idea of what I had to go through, here are some of the HAWP videos I've watched:

Thought-provoking stuff for sure.
