Oh wow, now that's a nice deal. I wanted to buy it on summer sale for 15 euro just the base game. And now I can buy the whole package for 8 euro, this is the best deal of the summer for me, glad I waited. Thanks for the heads up.

Bought during the summer sale and just put in a refund request so I can rebuy at this price. $8 for the deluxe is a great deal imo

EDIT: refund processed in about an hour for anyone who was in the same boat as me

It's a single player game, so if you don't care about DLCs I'd just get a month of Xbox Game Pass for PC for 4€/$5 (or even 1€/$1 if that promotion is still active), which includes the base game.

Well, that's if you want to have the game for a month, sure. But I'm guessing most people don't just play every single game in a single month. :D

Regardless, XBox Game Pass is a great deal for many!

Well, for singleplayer games, I still think it's better to sign up for a 5 bucks, finish it and maybe try 1-2 other games before your sub runs out. Maybe if own the base game and want the dlcs, it might be a better option to just buy from steam.

HLTB lists the game as 27 hours long. If you play it like an Arkane game (which it is), then it'll be around 44h+.

Not sure how you can manage to, first of all, beat the game in a month, but also how you could manage to play other games.

Not to mention that you can't play the game again without paying. Even less ownership.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Main story average is 15h 58m. 27h includes the dlcs, which adds rogue-lite/multiplayer modes, iirc. 44h+ is probably for completionists or people who leave the game running while doing something else. I do think that beating a 20h game in 2-3 weeks is not only very doable, but I also see multiple people doing it every single month.

But again, what I said is for people who like to beat the main story and move on. If someone doesn't care about achievements/dlcs the cheapest way to experience the game is through the pc pass. Otherwise, just buy from Steam and enjoy taking your sweet time to unlock everything.

27h includes the dlcs

Nope. Extras adds anything that isn't the core story and the linear path. Considering it's an Arkane game, that's the entire point of their immersive sims.

44h+ is probably for completionists or people who leave the game running while doing something else.

Interesting way to stretch out the definition to kill any reason that people actually play games and that games take time to complete.

I do think that beating a 20h game in 2-3 weeks is not only very doable, but I also see multiple people doing it every single month.

Depends if those people have the 5 hours per day needed to do that, yeah (or the 7h if you're actually playing the immersive sim like an immersive sim). Not everyone is unemployed or lacks literally anything else to do in a month or has enough energy at the end of the week to just start going through a single game for an entire month's span. Perhaps I'm alone in that I don't want to play only one game at a time.

Again, the deal's reasonable for many. But saying that getting a subscription that's only a couple bucks cheaper than what you want to play is better for most is a bit of a stretch. You don't own your game, you can't play it in the future, unless you fork out more cash and odds are you might not even have the time to finish the game, which means that you're going to have to spend another fiver, which makes this deal immediately worse for you. So your entire pitch relies on the fact that people will finish the game in a single month and that they never want to play the game again.

That's exactly what I've been saying since the beginning... I don't know why you're making a big deal out of this. I just suggested that the xbox pass might be a better option for some people. As I said and I quote:
"If you don't care about achievements/steam..."
"But again, what I said is for people who like to beat the main story and move on... Otherwise, just buy from Steam and enjoy taking your sweet time..."

Ofc some people have more free time than others, but it boils down to priorities more than anything IMHO. While some waste an hour of their free time writing a wall of text here, like we just did, others might use that same time to watch a video or just play games.
They are personal choices that don't invalidated each other. As long as people are happy with the way they choose to spend their free time, all is good! :)

It would be but don't hold your breath waiting for that. Maybe they'll drop the price of the base game from $30 to $20 eventually but then what often ends up happening is at that point they stop offering more than 50% off on the game -- case in point: Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Morrowind for example. And Prey is a big enough IP that I could see them doing the same. Frankly I'm surprised that they are offering 80% off. It's rare to see 75% off on Bethesda stuff, let alone 80%..... except for maybe some lower-profile titles.

Glad i could recommend it to someone else too (and posting the link).

I just borrowed a bit of money, just had to get it, am also kinda afraid once it gets out of EA who knows it might double in price.
I am not easily wowed any more by new games lately, and the looks of the characters can improve a little (1 review says they look cross eyed) but it's EA so they can improve things, and there's also offcourse a risk it gets abandoned, but i trust these devs as they are still on top of it.
But the trailers, they impressed me, and it gave me a little of that Final Fantasy vibe the earlier ones had (FF15 let me down).

Yeah, buying EA games is always a gamble. Well, usually it is.
That said, dunno why, but I've grown tired of JRPG's. This is coming from a girl who looooved Secret of Mana on SNES and had to start FF7 from scratch because she wasn't properly prepared to take on Sephiroth. on my 2nd playthrough, he went down in 5 minutes ^^ I don't know... they now seem to drag on for way too long. Maybe it's the turn-based combat? Not sure. Huh... sorry for the semi-rant.

Thanks and np, well usually it's save the kingdom/princess and get the 4 elemental pieces blah blah blah, but dunno about your age but yeah if you been into gaming for over 25 years then you pretty much heard and seen every story possible already.
And grinding, they give you some hard boss and try tackling it or just grind level after level till you become stronger and try again.

I got a Nintendo Switch a few months ago and i played the usual games (Kart, New Super Bros and Smash) all games that been on previous Nintendo consoles too and usually i was still like yeah a new one, but now i am also like how many times haven't i been here already? And it's a bit boring.

Now 4 laps of Mario Kart at one time is already more then enough while i used to try getting A's or whatever on all levels for hours.
And since most of the other good games are also on the PC i don't have much reason to touch the switch (it's only good really to pass an hour before bedtime or sit in the garden with it).

Couldn't you just have grinded more to kill Sephiroth?
I had Final Fantasy 8 on the playstation 1 (ugh the long loading times) been stuck and given up around disc 3, 2 times till i actually finished it on pc the third time.
Not sure about replaying 7 again with that whole remastered one.

But maybe that's just it that we are getting older too and got less patience for such things (as life is getting shorter and time become more precious) oir shorter attention spans. :p

Couldn't you just have grinded more to kill Sephiroth?

From what I can remember (it's been like almost 20 years so yeah, it's pretty vague in my mind), if I had kept a save file where I could have continue breeding chocobos, I wouldn't have had to restart the game. I think you needed a specific chocobo to get rare materias... was it the golden one? I don't really remember. But I was constantly overwriting save files so I didn't have an "early" save anymore. And I probably read in a guide that your needed a combination of specific materias upgraded to the max to be the most effective so yeah... I just started over. Mein Gott... so so much grinding, that game was. That's probably why I never finished FF8, I was just fed up. But I looooved FF7 and used to think that Sephiroth was one of the most coolest villains ever. I almost bought one of the expensive Kotobukiya statues.

I think you got it right. Less patience and a shorter attention span. I do feel I have less patience now than when I was younger. Which is not necessarily a good thing for people around me. XD

I can barely remember what i had for dinner last week, don't ask me. :p (though seems weird you had to start over still).
And yeah if you played it on a playstation you also had the risk your mem card would just delete all your savegames. :x

Final Fantasy 1-6 were even worse (especially the first, in that every step would give a random encounter) they fixed them a bit in the steam versions, though with the 4th i still found them much.
When you want to do an hour of grinding is one thing, but shouldn't be forced like that.

And they get older too also getting less patience with you. :p

It's not fast action, but it does have interesting mechanics. There's a pretty decent story, but it doesn't take up too much time so you can spend most of your time playing the game and exploring the station.

People had problem with denuve because it would use 100% of cpu, later they had problem because of how it used disk space. And I never felt any issues because game was protected by it. So imo "won't buy because denuvo" don't seem as any logic point.
And I'm not supporting it neither hate it. It's a way for devs and publishers to keep their games somewhat secured for some time.
I hope You'll explain how denuvo is affecting Your gameplay and experience from this game ;)

Nice report that don't include that in that time that denuvo was removed drivers and games were updated which can improve performacne ;)
So calling one yt video as subject od debate is not on point. And ok I accept that some people had problems and now without trying they just call pass when game has it.
But from what I see in reviews of Prey there aren't many negative ones and I don't see any calling that performance is hurted by denuvo. So I guess I'm free to write my point that denuvo now is not such a pain.

Does it affect the game's performance? Sorry, I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to Denuvo. It's supposed to slow down crackers, I guess... I've read some things, like, as I've said about games' performance and maybe it can interfere with compatibility.

With AC: Origins people would say that(CPU usage and some other things), from my personal experience with that game from launch I didn't have such problems and same goes for other games using denuvo.

What they don't tell you is that Origins would have high CPU usage without Denuvo, given all the AI pathing and reactions in the game. The people around you in the game react to everything you do, avoid objects, interact with one another, etc, which eats CPU cycles.
