I have been a big fan of HTC phones for close to ten years now, but with a series of bad experiences with HTC One Mini 2 and HTC One M9 I think I might have to give up on them...

I love both my Mini 2 and my M9, but since both have been sent off to repairs more than once, I have to add "when they're working" to that sentence :(

Obviously having my phone being away for repairs is annoying, and then there's the abuse I have to take whenever anyone spots my replacement Nokia 630 :S

I can't take it anymore, and I'll have to switch to another brand. I was already heading there before I got the M9, even considering both a Windows Phone and an iPhone, but in the end decided for the HTC...

So yeah, which phone should I get? I very much think I'll stick to Android, but go ahead and try to convince me to try something else if you think there's something better out there :)

App wise, Apple's app store is quite selective. Emulators, for example, are almost non-existential compared to an Android phone with Google Playstore access. The charger for an Apple phone must be for Apple; I use a charger that came with my former Windows phone for my current Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - see what I mean? I think there are more differences, but the two reasons above are from the top of my head.

I just replaced my HTC One Remix with a Galaxy S5 and I love it. If you don't need a removable battery, you could look into the S7. I love that my phone is waterproof to a certain extent, has a removable battery and sd card slot, and can run marshmallow. I haven't had any problems with it yet. I bought it new from a third party seller rather than paying an exorbitant amount for a two year old phone directly from Verizon though. The battery in my previous phone was completely trashed months before the two year contract was up, so I decided to get a phone with a removable battery so that wouldn't happen again.

Edit: Before the HTC, I had a Droid Razr Maxx that I loved and it had an amazing battery, but I have no experience with the models that have been released over the past 4 years.

Samsung's TouchWiz UI is AIDS although there devices are not that bad :D. If you settle for Samsung please for the love of god install another launcher. The Nova launcher is pretty good IMO.
But I would go with a Motorola or Sony (but they are a bit overpriced).

One Plus 3 have so far given me a headace since day 1, it's my first and last experience with them and their beta/alpha phone..
Never had a own a more unreliable cellphone, it'll restart itself randomly and freeze all the time.
And yeah I had a remote session with lvl 2 tech, I sent it for RMA to Arvato on service... Same damn broken phone, so ye think twice why they don't have retailers around. ;|

I had mine for a month aswell with these constant issues, emailing back and forth.. Shipping the phone over seas :)
I've given up hope on them.
Yes it could be, but so far it isn't (In my experience that is.)
Im glad it's working for you, but if you google about the reboot/freeze issue you'll get some pretty huge topics on different forums which tells that some customers still suffer from the problem which makes the company sink in my eyes :/
There was recently a patch released for it that didn't make any difference at all also.

Thing is also that they manage to create this hype around the phone, now they took it down for sale in EU until sometime in September again when they predict it'll be in stock again...
Yeah hopefully, but it's just been laying around for a month now collecting dust.. 370€ down the drain while I had to buy a phone during the repairs, since that's another downside with em.. They won't offer you any cellphone to lend during the repair time as a normal retailer.
I would be very happy if they could actually use a phone to call me, after all they are selling phones.
So I don't have to exchange email with 20 different peoples at their HQ.
Even if they fix it as you see, the damage is done... Im tilted about them :'D
Keep enoy your phone, hopefully I was just unlucky and they get me a new after the 2nd repair that is coming up, hehehe.

For people that are sensitive about their private data OnePlus will force you into ScreenSharing your PC with the phone etc for the remote sessions if anything where to happen to it as in my case.
Afaik they won't fix it unless you don't, maybe im wrong there.. But I think not.

I'm curious which LG phone you had. I own the LG G3 (flagship at the time), and I've never had any issues until AT&T forced the Android 6.0 update.

I don't know the name of it but it came with 8gb memory (store told me 16...whatever), and the OS takes most of it. You can add a memory card, but most apps need to be installed in the main memory, rather than the card. It crashes more often than not, it rarely finds the GPS, the keyboard has a tendency to either not show up or to disappear while I'm busy typing, and it's slower than a dodo.

I didn't know it was possible to make a phone that bad. they must have gone out of their way to fuck it up.

I had an HTC Desire and eventually replaced it with a Samsung S4 Mini expecting it to be better-supported with things like Cyanogen. Big mistake. It was no better supported (uncommon model, dual sim) and the Knox bullshit pissed me off no end. I'm never buying another samsung piece of shit phone and I may as well extend that to their ad-ware TVs since that was no doubt a trial for a wider rollout.

If I buy some hardware, it's MY goddamn hardware. That message is for Microsoft as well while we're at it.

Samsung is shit. Had the S3 Mini and now the S5 Mini.
The S5 Mini is full of bloatware, but equipped with KNOX, so you need to decide whether to keep your warranty but have a shitty OS, or to root/flash it and loose warranty. Also, Samsungs update policy is shit. My update to Lollipop came February 2016 - Marshmallow propably won't make it to my device.
After one and a half year of using my S5 Mini:

  • the microphone seems broken, at least i get constant complaints from poeple I talk with
  • the brightness-sensor is casually not working, wich means the screen is not turned off automatically when holding the phone on the ear, and also sometimes the display seems black when you are in bright sunlight but the automatically brightness regluation would not recognize it and keep the screen on minimum brighness. You then have to "guess" where the "automatically" checkbox in the notification bar is and hope to hit it blindly to change it to manually.
  • There is an issue with bluetooth since the beginning. I experienced lags when playing music on several devices. Also, when connected to my bluetooth speakers, there is background noise, which is an issue with my phone, because other phones don't have it.

I think my next phone will be a OnePlus. A friend of mine had the One and Two and he was fully satisfied with both.

//Edit: Not to forget the random restarts and the poor GPS accuracy.

Get LETV Leeco 2 x620 (Yes, it's not a brand phone like Samsung or HTC), you'll get a bang for your buck with this phone, it can even compare with last/this year's flagship phones, killer phone for it's price (187$), believe me. http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_414484.html?wid=21

I am currently rocking the Honor 5x. Depending on what you use your phone for, it might be a good fit. For YouTube and general internet use it's more than adequate, but the PlayStation Vue app UI lags a bit. Oh and I had to download a file and extract it to get the Android marshmallow upgrade, but that should be OTA soon I believe.

I have a Xiaomi Redmi 3 and I'm totally in love with it so far. The UI customization options are the best I've seen and it has all the bells and whistles a smartphone should have.
It needs some tinkering initially, since it does not have Google Play by default, but once you are past that it is just great. There is also a Pro version of it now or it has a bigger brother the Redmi Note 3 too.

Get a Nokia 950. Its fabulous value and power, especially when you consider how efficient WIndows Phone is. Also that battery life tho!
As for the haters, tell em you got the btter phone and faster OS, so deal with it.

Of course a Windows Phone has better battery life - there are no apps so it will not be used :p

You can't honestly believe that anymore though. Apart from games (which occasionally get releases few months later anyways), name an app that isn't there on Windows phone, with no other app offering similar functionality!

My brother uses a WIndows phone as a business phone, and gets 100+ emails daily on it, uses it for extended tele and video conferences, streaming music throughout the day, gps to and from work, and as a remote desktop while away from his desk, and is pushing over 2 days at the moment. And that's just the Nokia 650.

As I said in my post, I did consider a Windows Phone last time I got a new one, so I know it's not as bad as it was..

I haven't really looked at Windows Phone apps since I had a Windows Phone 7, Lumia 920 I think, and I really didn't like it. For short periods I have used a 630, but only for phone and messaging and the occasional web browsing - I did bring it to the movies once though some 2 or 3 months ago, and before the movie started they were doing a quiz on the screen. That app wasn't available for Windows Phone :p

Was the app Timeplay? If so, it is there now! :P
But that is a fair point. I'll add a caveat to my earlier statement. All daily driver apps have solutions on Windows phone.
I agree with you, Phone 7 wasn't something to write back home for, it was just the groundwork. Phone 10 on the other hand clearly displays the design philosophy of Windows 10 (desktop ) apps. If you like those, the Phone versions are nearly identical (for example news, mail apps).

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my opinion! A lot of other phones here are very good choices, so you'll have a tough time choosing lol. (PS: My second choice would be a sony flagship/mid-end!)

Xiaomi. It is as good as any Samsung or even better, and costs a lot less.

Or accept that Android will be never be good unless you run it on a small supercomputer, and just buy a Lumia. :)

I like Samsung. I use the galaxy active, because they're more damage resistant and have an extra two-function button you can assign to do whatever you want. For example mine goes to text messages on press and to the camera on hold.

Sony flagships also have the tendency to be waterproof, which is quite nice! I believe they were among the first mainstream smartphone brands to have decent water resistance!

Samsung phones are a safe choice. They usually are good quality (aside from some cheap models) but in my opinion aren't the best bang for the buck. They're aware of their brand and it can be seen in the prices of their higher-end models.

I'd recommend a phone that should have a long expectancy for updates, such as the Nexus series. I've seen the trend where some companies are giving empty promises on updates and not possibly honoring them. Although, if you're used to rooting your phones at some point, then official updates isn't an issue.

I've had an LG p705 (also known as L7) for almost 3 years. It's a low-end phone (512mb of RAM and a bad CPU), but hey, not every cellphone lasts this long these days! So yeah, I vouch for LG.
