Well, as caio predicted, I'm making a "back from Rome" thread. I've actually been back for several weeks, but I am extremely slow.

I won't give a boring recap of the trip; I will just say two things:

First, there is no food in the world that's better than Roman gelato. There may be some food as good as gelato in Rome, but there is not -- cannot possibly be -- anything better.

Also, it was really nice to spend a few days on a different continent. Living in the USA, it's easy to think that we're the center of the world. I never believed it, but it was awesome to see firsthand that it's not true. We're all just citizens of the world. Our success or our failure on this planet lies together, not apart. I hope we can figure that out eventually.

Okay, now on to the stuff people really care about: the photos, and the giveaways!

Photos are here. (Unfortunately they are in random order. I do plan to organize them and add descriptions eventually... but don't hold your breath).

Giveaways start here and end on March 19th, Level 1.

Welcome back to SG! Canis!

We're all just citizens of the world. Our success or our failure on this planet lies together, not apart. I hope we can figure that out eventually.

Wonderfully put, Canis. I grew up in a Multi-Racial society so I've never really feel any different with other races or nationality. It is also the reason I enjoy internet. To learn, to understand and to encounter different personalities and cultures. :D

I like the 1st picture, it really sets the mood for Rome for me. Had you watched to any plays or performance? Is the 2 seat electric car your rental for your travels? More food pics? ^_^
Cheers, Cruse~

Any plays or performance

No, we really didn't have time (less than 4 full days) so we really just wandered the city, by foot and tram and metro.

2 seat electric car

That is a risciò (rickshaw) and we rented it in Villa Borghese from a company called Bici Pincio, and it was AWESOME.

More food pics

I kept forgetting to take food pics until after I ate the food. The problem is that the food was so good that I would start eating immediately, and then after 5 minutes I'd remember that I forgot to take a picture. :)

A little shame, you didnt catch any performance but you explored the city. ^_^
I was actually asking about the Red Vehicle after the Gelato pic.
I can imagine walking around the city the whole day and just wanting to take a sit and just chomp down all that is placed before you. Eat 1st! Pics later! Oh, wait . . . :D Glad you had fun. Oh, did you come across any roman gear, just curious.

Nope, I lost on these two... and then got four more... and lost on those too.

I blame caio. He's the one who told me what scratch off tickets are called in Italy, and which stores to find them in. :D

That guy just wouldn't move! I loved that map and really wanted a shot of it... and there was a crowd of about 854 people coming down the hallway so I had maybe 15 seconds to take the shot. I waited until the last second, but he never moved a muscle!

Yep, I joined AEG last year I think. I'm not too active, though.

You are not the first person to ask, and unfortunately, I don't really know.

It's in the Vatican museums and it's not far from the Sistine Chapel, so I took a quick picture and then kept walking because I was very excited about seeing the Sistine Chapel. I didn't take any notes, so I am not sure what it actually is or what timeframe it dates back to. Sorry!

I will try a reverse image search, and if I come up with any answers I will let you know!

Nessun problema, figurati!

I'm extremely happy you loved my country, even if I was born so much northwards in respect to Rome, Naples and other Central-Souther areas that apart from some short train trips, I've been there only as a kid with my parents many many years ago.. it's quite hard to pass the whole Appennines and the whole Tuscany too xD
But we're the most beautiful country in Europe for what concerns art, literature and many other things u.u'
Jokes apart, I'm really happy when I read such impressions on Italy and on Europe in general, since I feel myself a proud European! Thanks a lot for coming here and take your time to visit other parts of Italy too in the future!
Welcome back =)

I love your country too. I seriously wanted to move into a small town in Italy (those towns which pay you to live and work there), but my boyfriend is not interested. :(

oh that sucks! =( I know the feeling though, my girlfriend too doesn't always agree with me on many things =P (and I don't really like to go and see often her family down in Sicily ahah xD)
anyways I really hope the best for the both of you! I was born in an extremely beautiful and quiet town in northern italy and I really love living here, and especially north-west of here (getting near to milan, turin, genoa and all their neighboring cities) you can definitely make out a living for a family, there's a lot of work and house opportunities and you'll find everywhere here a warm hospitality if you behave well, it's great to live here (although as I said, my region is more "quiet" and based a lot on agriculture rather than huge cities like milan/turin where millions of people work, we don't even have a metro in our whole region! =P) and I hope that your bf will change his mind!! =) good luck <3

They say that all roads lead to Rome. Well, it's good to know that at least one road actually leads back xD
Joking aside, I'm glad that you had a good time there. I liked the pictures. Looks like you visited quite a few places.
My favourite one was that circle on the floor in a... museum, I think. With the four nude men around.
Followed by the last one, that... Quad-Bicycle? Quad-Cycle? Whatever it is, it looks handy :)

circle on the floor in a museum

Yep, that's floor tile art from the Vatican museums. It's beautiful, and I was amazed that it's in such good condition.

quad-cycle

That's a risciò (rickshaw) that we rented in Villa Borghese. It was so much fun. It goes pretty fast once you pedal enough and the electric motor kicks in!

Sure.. all is good and dainty.. but the best gelato was in San Gimignano (let's say, erm.. a few years back) and I see pictures and they're queueing outside the shop nowdays. Glad I didn't..

Glad you had a nice trip. As great as our local gelato is, I believe you that the Italian one may be even better. Did you have a favorite flavor?

We're all just citizens of the world. Our success or our failure on this planet lies together, not apart.

That is a great takeaway, and a sentiment I wish everyone would embrace.

Did you have a favorite flavor?

I can honestly say that I did not. Every flavor was ridiculously good, even flavors that I wouldn't expect to like, such as strawberry.
