It doesn't even allow you to create an account in which case you could at least then potentially use that account on another platform if you were a new player. It just straight up uses your Epic account/name.

I linked my account to Epic and it messed up my account on Steam. I'd advise against doing it for now.
Support finally got around to me, they said this:
"You should still be able to play on Steam with the Epic account linked to it. If the game is prompting you to create a player name, please enter your previous player name the account should come up after that."

Honestly, you just need to do the whole copy files to just play to claim the stuff on epic then unistall on epic and unlink, sorts itself out on steam

I honestly had zero issues with linking or unlinking my accounts, must have just been lucky I guess

Link Accounts ->start the install on epic ->exit the Epic -> Copy Files from Steam/Standalone launcher to epic -> reopen epic so verifies files -> Finish the shorter install on Epic -> Play on Epic to claim -> Uninstall On Epic ->unlink Accounts
