First, Quite often I see people asking why they can't add a certain game, and it is because it has been free. I think this indicates that the UI of the "Create Giveaway" page is unclear. I think the free games should remain in the database but be marked somehow so it is clear why the giveaway is not allowed. Then maybe we can avoid people adding, say, "Dead Bits Soundtrack" just because they can't find "Dead bits" in the database.

Second, I also think that the Create Giveaway page should clearly show that the game added is a bundle game and have a lower CV contribution. I know that people can look it up on http://www.steamgifts.com/bundle-games, but it would be nice if you were told when creating the giveaway.

Third, have you considered allowing free games in giveaways? Sometime people might want them if they missed the original opportunity? Of course, if a free game is given away it should provide zero to CV and it should not count towards value and gift count on the group giveaways.

I've seen mods/admins state several times that they aren't going to do 0 CV giveaways for free games due to server load and extra support tickets for re-rolls, etc. I'd agree with the other stuff.

Fair enough, just a thought.

Maybe completely unrelated, but there used to be a thread in this forum listing all the games that have been free in the past and thus cannot be given away. I can't find it anymore tho and found this thread instead. :D
Does someone have the link?

Doshmaku to the rescue again
EDIT: I didn't look at the date of this post, you're already aware of this thread and I don't think you forgot about it since the last time I posted it. Link will be useful for others who visit this thread. :P

Someone asked about it on another thread and posted a link there. So yes, I'm aware but thanks a lot tho and I think when some people will come across this link it was worth it.

bumping from the ongoing re-write the faq thread.

@CG i hope you see this. let's revamp the create giveaway page to 1. show CV that will be earned (at least at that moment, especially if bundled), and 2. to actually list given away games but to explain that they are blocked, to stop all the dlc or package GA's created by new users who don't fully understand the rules and want to give away their gleam.io game.

Id like to have/see 0 CV GAs.

Ive missed on many free offerings. MANY.
And i hate key dropping for bots- i want to share games with average fellow playes not scummy bot hoarders.

Its not like the site is all about wining unbundled games right? This is a site for sharing and giving away correct?
So certainly 0 CV GAs shouldn't be a problem correct?

This is a very particular detail that makes me raise eyebrows. Seens like a staggering discrepancy with the stated and louded purpose of the site. I won't go into the motivation for giving away amongst users- we all know theres no lack of leechers that wouldn't GA a thing if it weren't for lvl entry, and theres plenty of people who are about the sharing and enjoying it.

But this 'rule' seens like the kind of rule the leecher type would come up with, not the sharing type.

As for some of the explanations mentioned here:

-Its probably as most trouble if not more having to review the database to change/remove games state when they go free
-Re-roll tickets wouldn't increase that much- and its the kind of load that can wait. What were the deadlines again? A week. Re-roll requesters should be able to wait a week or a little more
-If load is a problem enlisting some more help with tickets would do wonders. All you need is a kind of user without any abuse-prone power capable of reviewing tickets and done. Im sure quite a bunch of people would be glad to help.

this is an older thread that got bumped for a slightly different reason then the 0CV / free game purposes. it has been planned to implement exactly what you are saying for ~6months now though. ^^
assuming nothing had changed his mind anyways. xD
