Maybe i'm beeing blinded by gigantic lenses in nostalgia glasses, but i can replay deus once every year and i don't need any graphic mods or anything, it's fine IMHO

good players don't go after graphics,they go after story,environment.how the game can get you looking at him hours after hours,so BUY IT!

The graphics do nothing to detract you from the game's atmosphere, so go ahead and buy it.

deus ex games are the best games i ever played! the first game may have crappy graphics, but not graphics make the game... its the gameplay and story.

Still the best game ever (from a totally biased opinion).
If you really want to improve a bit the game graphics, give a look at New Vision, Project HDTP and here is a great topic about how to use it all (and other things).

I think I'm the only one here who thinks Deus Ex hasn't aged well. The AI are moronic, compared to recent roleplaying games the decisions mechanic is sort of dull and the all praised narrative is sort of a case of 'been there, done that'. Comparatively Fallout3 / New Vegas also have quite crappy graphics but I think they do whatever Deus Ex did good 12 years ago a lot better... well except the part of the story concerning man VS machine.

Honestly it's hard to get around if that's the sort of thing you actually care about. Graphics mods can't do all that much, but honestly there are very few games that can continuously impressive visually. If all games did that, nothing would interest you. So if you can get over that, maybe with graphic mods attached, you should find it enjoyable :)

When you're done, grab some of the full-game conversion mods (The Nameless Mod, ZODIAC are a must play).

What's awesome about this game is that despite all the years and the very mod-unfriendly game engine, the DX mod community is still going strong.

No. There's texture mods that greatly enhance the graphics. Polygons are still low, can't help that, but def worth checking out. And make sure to get past Liberty Island. The first level or two are the worst parts of the game.
