Only the games or their DLC too?

Only the games [developers confirmed in FAQ that DLCs aren't required].

I believe a lot of publishers will automatically give you the remastered title in your library if you have the original. Wasteland 2, Dying Light, Divinity: Original Sin

Many do, but not all. Though some even force it through. I am not 100% certain, but I believe Steam introduced the following into my library without me asking for the extra edition:

  1. I once purchased Divinity II... now I own
    • Divinity II; Divinity II - The Dragon Knight Saga
    • Divinity II - Developer's Cut
  2. Company of Heroes
    • Company of Heroes Steam Edition
  3. Sleeping Dogs
    • Sleeping Dogs - Definitive Edition
  4. Deus Ex - Human Revolution
    • Deus Ex - Human Revolution: Director's Cut
  5. Bad Rats
    • There is no other edition... but I think they just put it there because someone is evil

Then there are the exceptions to this like Fable... purchased the original a short time after the earth cooled and the dinosaurs came. Microsoft remastered it shortly before Apocalypse I, and then tried to charge full cost for the edition. I believe it released at around $29.99, but when the original released that is about what a new AAA PC title would run ya'

Can you please explain the Deus Ex - Human Revolution thing. Are you referring to the discount vanilla owners had, or was it given as a free upgrade?

I'm pretty sure that neither HR Director's Cut nor Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition are not available for free to owners of earlier verions of these games.

I don't know about Sleeping Dogs (since I don't own it), but Deus Ex HR Director's Cut has a big discount if you own the base game. If it was free at some point, I haven't heard.

FYI, I had DX:HR on Steam before Director's Cut existed. I was offered to upgrade for $5 but never did it. I still do not have the Director's Cut.

So does final cut combine all 3 games or is it just a "remake" of the first one?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

All games in one. Great game too.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Combines them all, adds higher resolution and a ton of bugs.
Which they don't seem to want to fix, which makes their removal of both the original game AND its DLCs even more of a jerk move. :X

Not sure how I confused the subtopic of this nesting, sorry; I was referring to Darksiders, of course.

I was actually wondering that ...as it did seem a bit odd ...and it is okay i have got convos mixed up before lol :)

But yeah i hate when they remove the old game to up-sell the new one.Or like some they make a updated version into a new one and force you to buy it to get the new and improved dlc but still sell the old version also.

I can see why some might if it fixed a lot from the older game and is cheaper and and so on,but just to force you to buy the same game again with all the dlc added is just stupid.

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, I don't mind them removing the game, but removing the DLC and forcing us into buying their new, buggy mess of a game, completely invalidating our previous purchase without even offering a discount on the new game, that's just.. bullshit :P
Yes, they offered a discount for the first week, which they didn't put any effort into advertising. I don't count that any more than I count Blood Bowl's similar offer for Chaos Edition. If I bought the game, it should count as being owned no matter the duration; I shouldn't have to be forced into buying within the publisher's whimsical (and hardly best discount) time-frame to receive credit for the purchase.

Blah.
Anyway, Final Cut seems to have been handled quite well so far, by contrast, so I certainly didn't intend to confuse the two. :X

Sorry, somehow confused your topic;
Yes, Final Cut is entirely different. It replaces the classes of the first two games with the expanded classes of the 3rd game, adds and deletes side areas for smoother play, rebalances leveling, makes you able to use the same character to progress through all three games, etc.

It's fairly well recommended to get. :)
(Especially as its changes to the 3rd game's content are considered a notable improvement.)

Wouldn't you like to have the "old" version too?? It's like with Pathologic, or Metro2033, maybe the old one has it's cute quirks!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Indeed, I prefer to keep both versions.
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut and Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition are both new entries that don't mess with the old versions of the game.

I don't know about Pathologic, but I'm pretty sure both Metro games are also new entries that don't mess with the old versions.

About the old versions being available for purchase though, that's a different matter of course, and you might have to cash out a little extra if you're late to the party :)
