The idea was that, while on a public profile, they were hidden amongst hundreds of images, requiring people to search through them to find the giveaways. The leaks ruined that by making them completely front and center, not requiring any sort of searching at all.

In a case like that, it would be no different than revealing a method (exploit) to solving an ITH puzzle here.
Ex: Someone posts an ITH link with the questions encoded in a certain manner. Person A solves it and reveals the GA link. Person B doesn't give out the GA link, but does reveal a method in which to solve all the questions. Both people can be held responsible for leaking the giveaway/ruining the puzzle

Technically, yes, as you would be revealing the method in which to solve the puzzle. However, it is always up to the giveaway creator if they want to allow it.
The best rule of thumb is that unless the giveaway creator explicitly states that sharing info/hints is allowed, to keep anything you find/discover to yourself.

Unless your level is too low - that's most frequent case of leaks. He can't have it so others shouldn't too

Out of curiousity and maybe you answered it already before: How did you notice that the giveaway links had been leaked?
And yea, sorry to hear that. Even making some smaller events and puzzles takes up a lot of time and creating all those ga's alone is a hassle. All because people are greedy and then most time end up not even playing the games they won.

Not sure if you ever get to to 13th page of comments but just came by to say that what you were trying to do is an amazing (and rather unique) idea. Do not let a couple of ungrateful assholes ruin your experience of SG. This is a great community.
As someone has mentioned higher in the thread - creating a group for a certain event maybe a better idea than hidden links since group GAs cannot be leaked.
Either way, you are great. Please don't get upset because of bs comments.

I admittedly don't usually participate in stuff like this cause I'm incredibly stupid and am terrible at them, but it's still heartbreaking to see it ruined like this. Hopefully you're able to have an event in the future that won't be tarnished by jerks.

Sorry to hear that your event got ruined. What's even more disappointing was witnessing other users' audacity to even argue the logic of your own rules in your own event. I mean they could just very well be outing themselves as guilty.
