Get a Xbox pad, cheaper & better in all ways.
You lucky ****, you can afford it and I can't!
Buy a pro-shooter mouse, amateur.

you will have to add the game to steam (with the add a non-steam game option) and disable any other overlay besides the steam one

I played a ranked game in League of Legends with it. Used a very simple point & click character and won the game, I'd say I was playing at about 95% of my capacity, it was very precise but not as quick as aiming with the mouse. It felt very comfortable too.

I had a trapped nerve over Christmas and bought myself a steam controller because it really hurt to use my mouse. Overall it works really well with shooters and with most strategy games that I've tried - but support for the thing does vary drastically by game.

It's kind of predictable - you can generally tell by the publisher what is going to work well. I wrote a review for the thing on Steam if anybody is interested.

I got a steam controller when it came out. By far the most comfortable controller I've tried but the trackpad is just bad. Would've been a great controller if it had regular sticks.

that is what I thought of. this trackpad thing.

Without the trackpads Steam Controller would've lost a lot of its unique features which would render it useless specifically for RTS and FPS. So I disagree with the above comment.

Because I want a controller with ... a kind of mouse instrument for aiming ... and SC has it.
I hate to play shooters with my xbox pad.

Wired xbox 360 controller. Cheaper, solid and it works all the time.

I love wired things myself but these are harder to find now, everything goes wireless.
Btw steamC has a usb wire for constant connection (recharging). I am planning to use it this way.

You can use the Steam controller with a micro-USB lead but it won't recharge it. It uses AA batteries for wireless operation.

I have a steam controller and an xbox360 controller.
It really depends, in some games is awesome, in some games sucks hard.
shooters: slightly better then the 360, way worse than mouse&keyboard
strategy games like civilization: you can use it if you play on tv, but a mouse is still better
platforms: awesome you just need to set it as you want
racing (playing with the gyroscope): it's not as good as a steering wheel, but it's very very funny, I'd spend the money again just for that.

I have the Steam controller and I use it for browsing the web. For gaming I prefer the Xbox 360 controller.
