"From original BATTLETECH/MechWarrior creator Jordan Weisman and the developers of the award-winning Shadowrun Returns series comes the next-generation of turn-based tactical 'Mech combat. "
"COMMAND A SQUAD OF 'MECHS IN TURN-BASED COMBAT

Why wold I go to the store page of a game I;m not interested in though?

To be fair, historically, a Battletech* game is more likely to be a mech based FPS/TPS than anything else. :)
*Digging further, it seems this is more true only if the Battletech title is a MechWarrior title though, so you have a point. To the average bystander like myself though, Battletech and MechWarrior are practically synonymous.

I just remember seeing so many articles that clearly stated strategy / tactics even in titles... though I usually check most of bigger news games just to get the general idea of title + genre + my impression, just as a quick look. It's worth the 20 seconds not to miss out something that I could enjoy ^^

Which is pretty bizzarre considering that there has been only a single action game in the history of Battletech-based videogames and not even one FPS/TPS. The tabletop is a turn based strategy game, Mech Commander is a series of real time strategy games, Mech Warrior is a series of simulators (complete with joystick compatibility and not even a particularly accessible one), the original BattleTech is another real time strategy game, Mech Assault is an Xbox esclusive action game and this Battletech is a turn based strategy game.
Hell, I WISH there was an FPS based on the Battletech universe.

My main exposure to the franchise is the mech sims, although I was aware of the Mech Commander RTS when RTS games were big. In my mind, the sims still read as FPS/TPS games, albeit from the perspective of someone piloting a large, often weapon-wielding walking tank. I'm not very aware of the rest of the lore, and definitely not very aware of the tabletop game. And with many of the other mech(ish) games that have come out recently (e.g. Hawken, MW Online, Titanfall) also being first person "simulators", it makes it easy to jump to conclusions.
Around the era of MechWarrior 2, a dedicated "VR" arcade opened up at a nearby outdoor mall where you could pilot a BattleTech mech sim with full realistic manual cockpit. Sadly, the place didn't last long, but apart from the cost, that was a fun experience.

Well, if you just played Titanfall or Hawken and jump into MechWarrior games (aside from MW Online) expecting to play it the same way you're gonna get wrecked. There are lots of stuff to keep track of, from thermal values to the ammo, the weight, localized damage, turning speed and engage distance, plus extra stuff like jumpjets, armor and various loadouts. It plays more like a futuristic simulator than the average action game with mechs (which is in line with the tabletop, definitely not like the average W40K or D&D session. It plays more like a realistic session on D&D with a very pedantic DM that actually wants to waste time into calculating the travel speed of an arrow).

Congratulations on finally catching up with the rest of the turn-based, mech-combat, strategy loving world. :)
Next you'll discover that Rocket League is actually about cars playing soccer, and not a first-person shooter with rockets strapped to your back.
Also, Into the Breach - totally not a documentary on the 2007 thriller. ;)

I'm just kidding. Stretching it, I mean. I've been typing for so long, that typing 'he or she' doesn't feel like I'm saving time compared to s/he. Of course, what you're used to typing is usually more convenient. In any case, I'd guess that your preference for s/he doesn't come from actually saving any time, more from the way it looks to you or other reasons. After all, if you really were the type to care about how much you type more than anything else, you'd be using '2' instead of 'to' and other such stuff.

Sometimes I miss the good old days when you had to wait a whole month for news about upcoming games, nowadays so many things are so fast and rushed and ultimately forgettable... don't get me wrong, it's cool that I'm able to know if a sack of rice fell over someplace on Earth, but on the other hand I really don't need to know about it. Everything has its ups and downs, I guess. But yeah, reading is a skill most people of today really should step their game up in, so props to you. Oh, and BattleTech indeed looks awesome.

IGN had a good review about it's Pros and Cons on yt.
Some things that Gamestar (German magazine) kind of neglected to mention in their vid.

i remember the time when GameStar got problems because of their negative game reviews and some publisher wanted to stop sending preview copies etc... they just made the letter from one publisher public and said "not with us"... now without Peschke and new the mother-companie in France it feels total wrong what they are doing... :(
when you follow GameTube you can here sometimes what these four realy think about games that got high rated by the magazine they working for... :P

It is a problem of the entire gaming industry. All these pre-paid reviews ..."you have to give at least an 80s rating or you will not get a preview version" or you are generally not allowed to publish a Review" @ Gamestar you can see it especially strong ... all bigger Titels have a good rating, except the game had a bad reputation even before it came out then they join the majority and small indie games if they are not in any kind of hype, then get disproportionately bad ratings....they need the clicks and that's why they only test what the majority wants and just write what they want to hear....Unfortunately, it is the same everywhere
the 40-60 ratings form the past are the 70-79s nowdays If you look in a PC magazine/website today, every game is a gem -.-

I haven't read the written review yet. All I saw was the yt vid and then the IGN vid popped up in my feed. It was a bit disappointing that the GS vid was more a preview than an actual review to show the pros and cons.
I don't think there is a paid review system but there certainly is a positive bias towards german devs.

Was even an rpg. http://www.mobygames.com/game/battletech-the-crescent-hawks-inception
Also for some reason coming from you i read it as screw management.

Have fond memories of that one. And the sequel, http://www.mobygames.com/game/battletech-the-crescent-hawks-revenge .
Fun fact about that one: it's the foundation of the modern-day RTS genre. Made by Westwood, it featured a prototype of the real-time combat system, which a few years later had evolved into the engine powering Dune 2, which really started off the genre.

Battletech (Tabletop), the old Comp. Games (Mechwarrior and so on), later the Mech Commander Games ..... all great stuff :o)
I play such stuff since 22-25 years............... and i meet,in reallife, a lot of people that liked it too. Battletech Meetings in Youth Hostels... with PC Games playing and/or Tabletop playing and sometimes with Pen&Paper Roleplay too.

Big, clunky, cluttered mechanical beats are boring to me.
I prefer speed over power, and organic fights are much more fun to me, especially with fast and agile and not fucking huge combatants.

I will not argue that the majority of mech and robot stuff isn't about bashing the other guy to hell or blasting him into oblivion.
But it's the stuff under all of that which makes worth wile for me.
There are nimble mechs and robots that exist though magical bullshit is usually involved.
I live in a real robot and super robot bubble, hearing someone say they don't like mechs is jarring.

titanfall was a favorite fps, but I rarely jumped in my titan, I preferred being a pilot.
it's just, once something for offesive purposes reaches a certain size (or bulk/slowness) I really don't care for it, and especially don't wanna be in control of it.

I thought BattleTech was just another mech fps so I ignored it. I'm not a big fan of mech, and not a big fan of cluttered huds, so mech fps aren't my thing.
But apparently this is a turn based tactics/crew management game with a lot of customization and it's made by Hairbrained studios? It looks fucking amazing.
I need to get back into reading game news again, I don't wanna miss awesome stuff like this again.
