MSO:

  • Highly superior spell checking (can only test for german language, of course)
  • Most functions easier findable and useable (ever tried to include page numbers in LO/OO? Have to google it everytime)
    OO/LO:
  • Graphics bugs (displays only the half of some lines, etc.. Of course i didn't check this in every version)
  • Java. Slow.
Well and some others, i'm using MS Office so i don't bother searching for every flaw in libre/open office

  • Would not know, I rarely spell a word wrong. Also this would help tremendously
  • Not for me, I never had an issue, also why after you figure it out once would you need to google it every time? I mean my memory is pretty bad but damn...
  • Have had this issue in both Libre and MS Office. Its really really rare. Didn't even notice it ran on JAVA.
  • Never had an issue with it being slow...and I mean never, actually its damn instant usually. (Could also be that Windows and JAVA is crap together, runs much better on Linux)

I like it better and its free....Let TC try it for himself, apparently everyone has a preference unique based on what they like(Layout for example)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well of course everyone should try it for themselves. I just didn't like everyone here is flaming MSO and praising LO/LL without giving any arguments. I tried both for a long time and the above arguments are the reasons why i would prefer MSO everytime

LibreOffice can compare to Microsoft Office 2003 for sure. All the knowledge I learned from getting my Microsoft Office Specialist Certification can be applied to LibreOffice/OpenOffice. Which is all you need in a professional workspace.

As far as the eye candy goes there is no doubt Microsoft Office 2010 will win. But for me personally I don't prefer pricey software or piracy over free software that does what I need. The only think I actually do use is SmartArt, which is the only think I miss. Might as well be an extension for it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm not talking about a professional workspace here where obviously other factors matter (the price is none of them). However, according to my experience that i've build over the last years with both MSO and OO i can say that both programs did what i need with MSO doing it better/easier/more bug free. When the price or piracy are acceptable i don't see many reasons to prefer OO/LO

paradoxly its not fully free...it runs in java which is free, but if you want to use open office, you must use java...thats why I dont like openoffice

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

huh? it's fully free! you don't even need windows! it'll run in most linux distros and you can even make a live cd of it to just run on any computer you want. it's free, not a single penny is needed! (unless you count internet access, cost of the hardware to run it, electricity, and slim jims... but that's just nit picking)

I am not talking about windows, I am talking about java which still have some compatibility issues in windows and linux..and yes I tried both and a lot linux distros

"paradoxly its not fully free"
I can guarantee I never spent a penny on open office, or on java, so I'm not sure why you said that. Also Paradoxly is not a word, but that's just nit-picking. And either way, Google Docs is better.

You have trouble running java still doesnt equate to any sort of cost, unless you need a java gold account to run it...

Java does not have compatibility issues. You might want to try installing Oracle Java instead of the opensource version. But I highly doubt Java has compatibility with Linux, Android would be pretty fucked.

Oh, you just want to type in shit? Not a problem: just use the notepad.

Seriously, stop being a cheapsass and buy it already. That, or pirate it/download some free version people seem to be contempt with even though it might bring a lot of fuss when you look for tutorials or when some compatibility issues happen. The full version comes with MSWord, MSExcel and MSPowerpoint and they're for general professional and amateur use so they're basically a must have.

Private, professional you are better off buying it just because it will pay for itself after a couple uses and you will have less worry.

But everyone I know that uses it as a hobby or just to screw around with has pirated it.

for a start a game is created by a games designer and software is created by a programmer. but a game is built to render vectors and sprites and be playable, where as software is built to do a job and accept input.
