I've come across this thread yesterday or so, a guy mentioned the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Complete mods - which are the one and only mods I've played the Stalker games with - and some of you strongly suggested playing the Lost Alpha.

I want to give it a try, watching some gameplay seduced me but I also encountered a lot of people writing that it was a bugfest or had terrible performance and/or gamebreaking bugs. I know there are a lot of reviews out there, I could make my own opinion without bothering you but the thing is, you always have the good advice. That's right scum, I value your opinion above anyone else's.

Now if you could tell me how was your experience playing it, that would be sweet.

Anyway here's a little something to thank you for visiting the thread : http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/C9Fov/grand-theft-auto-v

Very good, must try, completely playable
Good, a few bugs but nothing a PC player can't handle / a few design flaws
I want to like it but it has too many bugs / too many design flaws
Horrible, pick another mod if you can

Played it on drm free version and god, I wouldn't touch this with ten foot pole again. It will take maybe 5 years till it will be playable. Fallout and Metro are 1000 times better, hell even stalker with complete mod is better than that.

Sorry, I am curious about this as well, but got no useful advice. So the only possible vote was... uh-oh.

Anyway, here is a free bump. :)

I've played quite a few Stalker mods and I can safely say that Lost Alpha is the best. Not only in terms of enjoyment, but also in terms of stability. It's easily the most stable mod our there for Shadow of Chernobyl. Team Dezowave have spent several years perfecting the mod and it shows. I'm wondering why you haven't played it yet! :P

Thank you ! I've decided to jump in... Downloaded SoC (I didn't know it was standalone and did not need the original game :-/ ) and started my game.

So far so good but I jumped into my very first glitch right from the beginning : I can see my character model (albeit transparent) even in first person mode. I'll see if I can fix it myself.

First mission : finish development :-P

Edit : fixed by restarting

Oh wow, haven't heard of that before! Do you have the latest patch 1.3003?

Yes, I installed the patch. It was just when I launched the new game and switched from first person to third person, and back to first, now it's gone. I love it so far, it's beautiful and runs well, I love the fact that it adds new places.

My issue is now the flashlight, I HATE the fact that its battery depletes... I've tried to find a file edit/mod that removes that annoying (IMO) function but I can't find anything...

It might seem like a ridiculous detail but it's really spoiling the fun for me, I like difficulty but I don't want to live in fear that I might run out of light when exploring a dark place and find myself stuck, almost makes me want to go back to Complete... Do you have any idea on how to get around that ?

To be honest I wasn't originally a fan of the flashlight draining either. It's a feature that was in the Alpha version of the game and so being Lost Alpha they decided to restore it. Your flashlight actually lasts a fair amount of time before you need to insert new batteries. It really isn't an issue for me though because there are so many batteries available from traders and they're quite cheap. Once you find some of the major stash locations (no spoilers), you'll have more batteries then you'll ever need.
