A young boy named Lendo is trying to find a place for himself in a world where one’s personal might is measured in bananas. It's NOT EASY! He has to collect 7 dragon balls to... wait. That's not it. Now he's going to face the ultimate challenge of passing the test while been watched by the whole village and his drunken teacher Lamaus.

Chapter 2
Smell of Banana

The test itself consists of two stages. The first one was to estimate one’s spiritual power and the possibility of using this strength in an actual fight. Even if someone would possess a natural gift for spiritual training, it would be all for nothing, if they did not have a clue about how to utiliZe their might. Lamaus did not fool around this time, because he knew that every minute spent on this test thingy was a minute he could spend drinking. And he did not like to waste his own time. The crowd gasped when he thrust his hand into his interspatial ring and took out a blue crystal. It immediately shone with a purple light, which entangled the people surrounding him. Not only was the crystal worth a small fortune, but the ring itself was a treasure more valuable than anything else in the entire village. It was one of the ancient relics that Lamaus acquired while he was serving in the imperial army. The owner of this ring could deposit inside it many bigger objects than the ring itself, but still, it had limited space for storage. Only the owner knew how much could fit inside that ring and he was not a very talkative person.
-- Now everyone of ya, young lads, will put their right hand on this crystal – he said and placed the crystal on a wooden stool.
The blue crystal was very sensitive to spiritual power and it shone a special type of light for every level of cultivation. The purple light that was seen while Lamaus was holding the crystal meant that he's a rank 5 Spirit Master. Every three levels there was a bottleneck and the difference between rank 3 and rank 4 was like the difference between heaven and earth. Nobody in the village had ever crossed that line. There were a few more talented people that had achieved the 3rd level of cultivation, but to make a further breakthrough was very hard and most people could spend their entire lives on cultivation and never make it to the higher levels. Lau did not hesitate for a moment and walked straight to the crystal. He placed his hand on it and it began radiating blue light. After he released more of his power, the light began to darken a bit and as it got stronger, it took on a slight greenish hue. Lamaus looked at him surprised and said with some praise in his voice:
-- He actually broke through to the 3rd level of cultivation. Let’s see how well he can handle it.
By a single move of his hand, a wooden training doll showed up from his interspatial ring and fell onto the gRound.
-- It's a special body-training mannequin and it can measure a practitioner’s powers up to level 3. Let us see your strongest technique in action!
Lau smiled confidently and put metal braces on his hands. He walked up to the training doll and after slowly inhaling some air, he opened all his spiritual paths at once.
-- Wolf Fang! - he screamed out and his fists simultaneously struck the wooden head. The doll did not move even an inch, but everyone present felt the tremendous power of this young boy.
-- Not bad. It's actually pretty close to being at the peak of the 2th cultivation level. You've passed the test – Lamaus said.
Lau just smirked and proudly walked back to the other participants.
Only 4 out of 9 actually passed the test: Lau, two brothers of the Jin family, named Kao and Tin, each with 2nd level of cultivation and attack; the beauty queen was also on the second level of power and had the deadly and beautiful Butterfly wings technique. The only ones left were the youngest girl called Delta and thirteen-year-old Lendo.
A few men gasped “How cute” seeing this young fragile girl. There were also other voices: “Maybe you should go back to your dolls? Haha...”
She did not waver even a bit and just put her hand on the crystal. Strong green light enveloped her surroundings. People could not believe what was happening before their eyes. Already a 3rd level at such an age? And yet the light was so pure and strong! It was simply beyond common sense. She could not be considered a mere mortal human being anymore, but rather a true monster. People gasped for air just waiting for her performance at the technique trial. She nodded resolutely after getting the teachers approval and a long reddish colored blade appeared in her hands as she began to focus on the wooden doll.
-- Delta blade... - she whispered and in a split second slashed towards the mannequin.
She delivered ten strikes one after another and they were so fast that they looked almost as one perfect swing. Wind blow caused by the technique forced people a few steps back and only after another few seconds had passed did they actually see the results of this move. It had cracked! It had actually cracked! One strangely-clothed gentleman from the crowd screamed “HERESY” as he ran away screaming. That was madness. Even Lamaus was surprised. Her attack power was at the peak of the 3th level and at her age that was something truly amazing to achieve.
-- Well... That was quite something. I think it will be enough for today’s test.
Lendo was also shocked but he hadn’t forgotten about himself:
-- Teacher! You seem to have forgotten about me – and after those words he walked forward.
People looked at him with ridicule in their eyes. Good-for-nothing Lendo wanted to embarrass himself even more after such a brilliant performance by Delta. Why even bother? Laughter and stupid remarks about his fatness filled the air in one second. Though his father was the village chief, it could not be helped. Such a useless fatty had to be laughed at. Lendo did not wait for their decision, but instead he put his large hand on the crystal. Blue light shone announcing his 1st level of cultivation. It had not changed even a bit over the years. Lamaus shrug his shoulders and said:
-- I can’t help you, boy. Second level of cultivation is the bare minimum for this test. Maybe you'll have more luck in 5 years.
Lendo tried his best but the light color would not change despite all his efforts. After hearing the words of his teacher, he just could not accept them. People all around him laughed at his face. In his fury, the fatty dropped the crystal on the ground and using all of his might, he just punched the wooden doll standing beside him. In this precise moment, the people’s laughter died off in an instant. Cracking sound filled the air and the mannequin just split in half where Lendo’s punch had landed. Lamaus raised an eyebrow:
-- Huh? So maybe you don’t have very good spiritual talent, but your raw power allows you to more or less make up for it. So be it. I'll give you a pass this time. Let’s see how you’ll handle the actual collecting of bananas.
People were looking at each other dumbfounded as they could not understand what had just happened. It was just impossible! It had to be some kind of trick. Even Lendo himself almost did not believe what had just happened, but the pulsing pain from his hand was a vivid reminder that he was indeed not dreaming at the moment. Somebody from the crowd said that maybe Delta’s blade destroyed the wooden doll’s structure and Lendo just finished her work. The smiles returned on their faces as they kept on ridiculing Lendo. Only Lamaus and Delta knew that previous damage to the doll was not significant at all and what just happened was a result of the fatty’s personal strength.
Lamaus looked at them for the last time and said:
-- You have to work as a team. Wild beasts are too dangerous and even if their cultivation is lower than yours, they can still easily devour each of you. Only by acting together will you be able to survive in the Forest of Shadows!

After hearing the teacher’s words, the group departed north from the village. Lendo was trying to keep up with them, but by every minute his breath started getting heavier and deeper. Sweat covered his eyes and he almost bumped into Lau, when he suddenly stopped.
-- You may have passed the test, but do not think even for a moment that you're good enough to stay close to us – after Lau said it, he released a small killing intent forcing everybody few steps back.
Lendo frowned and said nothing. Seeing his reaction Lau grinned wickedly and just took off running into the forest. Delta looked sadly at the fatty standing before her and hesitated for a second. He impressed her at the test, but there was no real relationship between them, so she just went after Lau. The rest of the group quickly followed in their steps leaving Lendo all alone. And this was exactly what he had wanted from the start. His technique was invented for a situation like this and only by acting alone would he be able to use its power fully. So he waited for a few minutes to be perfectly sure that no one would see him and after clenching his fists, he just ran into the deep forest. His nostrils were going crazy from the fragrant smell of bananas that were hanging in the air and his mind could not think about anything else other than getting some yellow fruits straight into his mouth. Soon he localized the first spirit tree. Not waiting for anything else to happen, he just rammed into it with full force and looked up to spot any falling fruits. It had to be done fast, because places with bananas were filled with vicious Monsters and every second spent near a spirit tree was like a gamble, where the stakes were a person’s life. He frowned a little seeing that fruits flew into different directions but in the blink of an eye, he decided which direction he would take. After slamming into the tree, he used the bouncing power of his own belly and by adding sudden kicks into the mix he managed to change his trajectory. This way he caught 4 bananas before they hit the ground. After getting the first fruits of his labor, he swallowed two of them at once. He did not know that this was not the correct way to refine a banana and he coughed a mouthful of blood. Nonetheless, deep inside his body he could feel a sudden burst of power, which soon spread through his spiritual veins. It made him stronger, but he knew that he would need much more to have a breakthrough. With this thought in his mind, he reached for the two bananas he had left, but in this very moment he heard a voice behind his back.
-- I would have never guessed that you would actually succeed in getting some bananas for me. It's time to stop playing. Hand them over right now – said Lau as it turns out he was the one who interrupted his spiritual meal. Lendo was kind of surprised and looked around to see, if there was anybody else here.
-- Pff... There is nobody to help you this time. Just hand them over quickly and I may let you live for another day – arrogantly said Lau and he just sent his killer intent.
But one thing he did not foresee was that Lendo would actually not comply with his demands. Seeing that the fatty was getting ready to fight, Lau raised an eyebrow and smiled wickedly:
-- Hmph. I think it's time to let you know who the real boss in this village is.
Even before the last word left his mouth, he just rushed straight at the fatty and punched him in the gut. Then, in one smooth motion, he jumped back and looked at Lendo in a new kind of way.
-- Oh... You can take a hit like a man. This is going to be so much fun – he smiled with a violent flame shining inside his eyes. After a few moves, both sides realized that it's going to be an endurance test. Will the fatty fall prey to his faster opponent or will he wear Lau’s stamina out and crush him with his mighty strength? The fatty put everything he had on this and just waited for the right occasion to ensure a clean strike. Once again, his mouth was filled with blood but he forced it down his throat. Lau was kind of startled too, as he did not expect such strong opposition. He did not want to kill him, but if there was no other way, he would not hesitate. Suddenly, Lau stopped fighting and his face turned pale in the split of a second.
-- Crap. It's bad! - he pointed at something behind the fatty’s back and screamed like a little girl - Rats are coming!
