Hello everyone,

I'm going to try, I think every Sunday, to post links to games that will be released the following week and that I think are interesting and original.

The goal here isn't to put up AAA games, but rather less "popular" ones, so that you can, i hope, discover some nuggets each week.
If I'm lucky enough to received the game from the publisher, I'll add the link to my video to show you a bit of the gameplay.

I can also miss some nice games, so don't hesitate to share the ones that attract you the most ;)

I'm adding a poll to the topic to see if many of you are interested.
Be honest, if it doesn't interest many people, don't let me do this for nothing :)

I hope you enjoy this topic, and I'll start right away with next week's games, to be followed in the replies below.

I was lmao at the trailer for Assetto Corsa EVO that still starts with "coming 2024" but the game looks good.
I had seen nothing of Dynasty Warriors Origins and damn, it seems awesome. It also seems like the kind of games I suck at but that never stopped me XD

Hyper Light Breaker has been on my wishlist a while though. Glad to know it's finally being released. Now I can wait a couple of years to get it.

Happy New Year Fluffster!

When you love games so much you can't play them all straight away, so you have no choice but to take your time :D

I've also recently discovered DYNASTY WARRIORS, which had flown under my radar before this year.

I really liked Hyper Light Drifter and even though it's not the same genre here, if the work done by the team on Hyoer Light Breaker is as good it'll surely be very good... to be continued!

Thanks Tucs!

Rally Mechanic Simulator is interesting. I guess you don't drive the cars but some of the shots in the trailer certainly make it look like you do. Also in addition to being the mechanic, you are responsible for team setup and sponsor negotiation.

But why would the mechanic also be the sponsor negotiator? Seems a bit weird to me, from a role-playing perspective.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

In the trailer you can see a bit of driving during a race but I don't think you can drive the cars, it just looks like an in-game video to me...
As for the sponsorship part, it's a little extra that has nothing to do with the mechanics yeah, if it doesn't interfere with the main content of the game, why not ^^.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

One of the reasons I like simulators is the idea of role-playing in a 'job' that I'll never come close to in real life. So I like as much realism within the job as possible. It seems like they added in the sponsor negotiation just to have something else to do? But if it's a mechanic simulator, being the mechanic should be enough.

It's not terrible or anything, I just think it's a strange choice for a simulator!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I confirm it's strange.
I don't know why, but I hope it's more of a bonus than something to complete a game that doesn't contain enough content.

All these "Mechanic" games (from that other developer) are increasingly driving-focused.
Used to be you could only drive around a small test arena but that expanded (even in Wrench which is another cool mechanic game and being developed way beyond the EA point still)
So maybe it's the same here.

It's true. It used to be useful to get the honest (although personal) opinion of people who had played the game but now it's just not an option anymore.
I prefer watching gameplay content on channels like yours to see what the game feels like and trying on my own.
Demos would be great but I guess you can still get a Steam refund if you don't like the game... if you buy on Steam directly.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I do the same thing when I don't get a key (which is often the case)
I watch a video, a few minutes are usually enough to get an idea, more than few minutes if i'm willing to buy directly

Trying out the demo is still the best solution, but they're not available all the time and it also takes more time... when you like a lot of games, it's complicated!

Refunds always work when taken on steam, yes. You have to do it within 14 days and have played less than 2 hours.
Personally I don't like that. I prefer to be sure before buying the game.
I've only used this system once and I can't remember the game. I used it because the game wouldn't launch at all on my computer and the devs couldn't find a solution.

Yeah it seems that way. Kind of a shame imo. They'd sell more if you could get a limited friends pass maybe and you could try the game with friends. Maybe they'll revise though.

It is a great week for releases. I am wondering if it's just by chance or a conscious choice. People having recovered from Holidays sales and spending, maybe March is a good month for most people to buy games at full price on release

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't really agree with you for the friend pass.
To be honest, I prefer the method where everyone has to pay for the game (if the price of the game takes this into account, of course).
The advantage isn't in sharing the price, of course, but rather in the fact that it allows both of them to ‘own’ the game and therefore potentially be able to play it again with another person of their choice, for example.
This wouldn't be possible for one of the two Split Fiction players, for example, as the one who used the free friend pass couldn't do so.

That's why I said limited. It's a good way for people to try the game together and may encourage others to buy the game at full price instead of waiting for a deep discount or a bundle.

AC Shadows is going to get review bombed so hard, it's going to be impossible to know if the game actually stands on its own two feet without watching gameplay :/

It's been so many years since I've played an AC that I'm unable to judge.
But yes, as usual, reviews are worthless nowadays :D

Between the usual Ubisoft hate, the fact that the long awaited Feudal Japan AC game has one black protagonist and one female protagonist and the fact that they delayed the release twice or even three times, I'm fully expecting the game to debut at 20% positive reviews.
I guess I'll have to buy it to find out if it's worth playing because I would like not to get spoiled by gameplay videos for this one.

Sometimes though it feels like Ubisoft is trying to piss people off. Did you read about the French voice casting debacle?

I think they're looking for a buzz before release... and potentially it works unfortunately, it gets a lot of people talking about the game, people watching and ultimately being tempted.
As for fans of the series, there's no impact, they don't even look at the buzz and buy anyway.
That's the whole problem with a popular series, they can largely afford it and they play on it.
As for the drama of the French dubbing by a Youtubeur, yes I've seen. This dubbing would have gone unnoticed if Ubisoft hadn't shown this video before release. It's only a side quest npj and in all honesty there's probably been worse voice acting :D

In addition to the dubbing problem, I've had much worse today lol
A very mediocre game that's just come out yesterday, I agreed to test it because one thing intrigued me, French voices for an indie game.
It was hard from the first sentence when I realised it was just a gps voice... impossible to play. My ears are still bleeding... so i thinkI that AC youtuber voice is a far from that level :)

Very true. Same with movies really. The bigger the franchise, the more they seem to be trolling to get people to bitch about it before it releases lol

Haha yeah I think people are relying way too much on AI these days. It won't magically solve every problem. A French dub on an indie game straight up on release was a little too much to hope for I guess. Automaton voices really won't cut it, indie devs, sorry.

The worst thing is the resulting vocal flatness, no emotion, no change of tone, it's a bore!
You don't know whether it's a statement or a question, so you have to put in the subtitles and then the all functionnality is cancelled :D
In any case, I hope not to see this system again any time soon :)

What a week!

I backed Spilled! on Kickstarter, I think I got an extra key to give away here.

Squirreled Away looks adorable.

Drive Beyond Horizons is fascinating partly because I have no idea what the game is actually about, yet I am already intrigued.

Atomfall came out of nowhere (for me anyway) but it looks really interesting.

And of course... inZOI. I really didn't want to buy into the hype. But it just looks absolutely incredible. So much potential. How long can I wait before buying it. One week? Maybe?

Everyone is talking about inZOI
I'm always cautious about games whose hype is beyond belief ;) I'll also wait before seeing what I'm doing, but I'm not that hyped so in my case it certainly won't be in 2 weeks :)

All this short list are amazing, I can't wait to see what they're really worth.
I'll know soon enough about Spilled, so hopefully I'll be able to take the time tomorrow.
It's going to be a great giveaway and I hope the winner appreciates it ;)

lol don't even say that! Part 1 was the one game I pre-ordered in my entire gamer life. Took a month for me to be able to play it at all

As a side note, I'm so damn happy that STORROR Parkour Pro is not a first person game (although I know for sure it's going to be a deal breaker for a lot of people) and I'm hoping it'll get a full release at some point. Looks brilliant.

I've got a friend who couldn't hold out and he pre-ordered it today
I'm holding out, I'm making good progress on my backlog and I want to keep going for a while before I indulge myself ^^

I'm very, very curious to see what STORROR Parkour Pro turns out to be like. If the trailer reflects the real quality of the game, I think we'll be in for a treat.
I'm more like you, I also prefer a tps view for this type of game but yes, it can be a disadvantage I guess

lol or block it to make sure I don't fall prey to temptation

I'm holding out, I'm making good progress on my backlog and I want to keep going for a while before I indulge myself ^^

Seriously! I have so many games in my "YOU HAVE TO PLAY THIS NOW!!" folder I really shouldn't be adding to it. I mean... we waited this long, we can wait a little longer... Right?

If the trailer reflects the real quality of the game, I think we'll be in for a treat.

It looks brilliant. I hope the game lives up to the trailer.

I also prefer a tps view for this type of game

I think it gives you a better idea of where your body is in relation to obstacles. Technically first person should be more immersive but the fact you can't tell where your body is can make it a challenge. In reality you know where your body is because you have a sense of it. You don't get that in games.
Plus there's already a first person parkour game: Mirror's Edge and it's awesome.

of course we can wait :)

over the last 3 years I've really limited my purchases, whether bundled or direct, and I'm happy with that.
I used to get very frustrated buying games when I had so many to play
today I've got about 50 games left that I'd like to play, to a greater or lesser extent. I think that's becoming reasonable
I had a little bit of a craziness with ff7 rebirth at the beginning of the year and I'm going to try to reduce my backlog even more before enjoying myself again, while remaining reasonable so as not to turn my backlog into a mess :D

I was a big Point & Click fan in my childhood (monkey island, broken sword, day of the tentacle, indiana jones, simon the sorcerer, sam & max and more...) and then I found (maybe it's just me) that the genre wasn't making any good games for several years.
I've been enjoying rediscovering the genre for a while now, with titles like Luna, Three minutes to eight, Verne, best month ever, Brok, american arcadia, closer the distance, prim and many more.
I've also got several in my sights for 2025, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be gems ;)

Verne and American arcadia, I think they have restored our enthusiasm, let's see if we can continue with this title.

As far as I'm concerned, it was Luna who made me think that maybe the genre could make a comeback, and since then I've been seeing more and more of it, even though it was exceptional for a long time ^^
But Verne, he's probably the nugget of the last few years in this genre.
And I haven't played the latest Monkey island or Gobliiins yet... I'm really into my backlog at the moment and it takes time :D

Hmmm, I'm another person who used to love p'n'c games in their golden age. And while I do actually enjoy American Arcadia quite a bit currently, I wouldn't exactly call it a p'n'c game. It's more of a sidescroller, ain't it?
Also: please, which "Luna" game are you two referring to?
