Terraria was more open to the broader audiance than minecraft. However the big point is WAS. There is no more work done on Terraria than for Minecraft. Modding community is dying due it too on Terraria.
This is why it is easy to choose Minecraft as a better game due the potential content it can still have.
On personal note though, I wish Terraria was developed more as I liked the action orientation of it more.

Terraria for Life. While I spend like nearly 6 hours in Minecraft, I didn't relaize that I played in one Week over 100 hours Terraria. lol

I like both of them, but I prefer first person games, and modding makes Minecraft fun... Terraria has more content with the game, but Minecraft updates a lot and has mods...

this is not a good versus as terraria is not a carbon copy or recreation of minecraft, terraria is an expansion on the block building genre that mine craft has popularized by combining it with elements from a metroid-vania an an rpg.

I find Terraria way more fun. It just didn't get boring anywhere near as quickly as Minecraft did. There was so much more variety :)
