I am actually curious as to if anybody has had any success with using a touchpad and decently playing games, esp. FPS's. I've tried but failed miserably.

I used to play Unreal Tournament 2004 back in the day with a touchpad, fun times.

Yea, I usually play my games with touchpad (Skyrim, CS:GO, Just Cause 2 and more) :)

I find that imposible to do with FPS's... heck, some FPS games even stop you from using the touchpad AND moving with the W,A,S,D keys at the same time!

I think it's because of your touchpad driver. It usually disables the touchpad while typing to prevent problems. Just go to the settings and disable palmcheck.

I think only playable games for touchpad are games where time is not important I am talking about SpaceChem or any other logical puzzles or maybe some turn-based strategy, but really can not imagine any FPS even in my darkest mind...

When I'm being lazy, yes, I've played FPS's with mine. I used to try to play the first Far Cry with it a lot for some reason. Pretty hilarious, but I (slowly) made it through a chunk of it at least before I finally got up and got my mouse.

Slower paced stuff/turn based I do a lot. Civ 5 comes to mind, since I can just kick back with my laptop and not need a bunch of wires everywhere. I used to play Audiosurf with it a lot as well, and placed nearly the same as I did with my USB mouse.

I think I tried early on, when I started getting into PC games but didn't have an external mouse for my laptop. IIRC, the touchpad was OK for games that were slower paced. If you've got time to think and decide what to do, the touchpad was OK. But for games that kind of play out in real time, like FPS, it didn't seem to work well at all. When you want fast reactions, accurate pointing, and the like, a mouse seems to work a lot better than a touchpad. So I'd say the touchpad is OK for certain types of games. Otherwise, use a mouse. (I actually use the mouse more than the touchpad now that I have one, too, not just for games.)

I was playing at touchpad in everything for 2 years. I bought mouse after I started playing ME multiplayer. Touchpad doesn't work well there :D But in single player with my sniper sentinel it was working well. I even end campaign two times on insanity level.

And after I bought mouse I stick to it :D However I was playing recently in Portal 2 to check how it was to play without mouse. And it was weird.

How can you ever use a touchpad again, after using one of those boobs mousepads.

Touchpad is all I have ever used for the past decade. The only game I ever had an issue with was Surgeon Simulator. It came with a big bundle and I was testing it for shits and giggles, and you can't do jack squat beyond moving L-R, U-D. You press a key to grab something and your hand raises up and you don't grab anything. So I went to look at the info, and it says playing with touchpad is possible (or some shit like that). I laughed, "Oooookay...if you call only being able to move the arm, and do nothing else, playing....yeah...sure..." Game was uninstalled. It wasn't that important to get a mouse and play it. Also, I sit on my bed with my laptop to play, so if I wanted to use a mouse, I would need have a largish, flat surface handy to use it on. I do 3d artwork and photomanipulations on my laptop, using the touchpad, so I have had lots of use and practice with it and find it more comfortable than a mouse for anything. So when I have to show my friend or kids something on their computers and switch back to the mouse, I feel hella awkward.
