hello hello
i really like sad music. i dont feel sad, but on the contrary, I enjoy beautiful music. for example radiohead or ólafur arnalds. (neo)classic and post-rock often cause pleasant feelings. i dont know much english. therefore, the voice and music are more important to me, not the words. so it doesnt even matter what language the song is in
I often see songs in the "sad" charts, but they dont sound like that (maybe in the lyrics). for example i like these:

so if you like any songs, please write. maybe there are good singers in your country?
thx for reading and have a nice day with a good mood!

Very interesting mix. Weirdly, that Brennan Savage song heavily samples the Low song that was recommended on the first page.

Also, whilst I'm here, this might catch you.

If you've never listened to Over The Rhine, then you probably need to start right now. I've been a fan since the 90s. I often refer to their music as "sad music for happy people," which seems to pretty much describe you. :)

Amazing songwriting...the husband-wife team of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist were each named individually to Spin Magazine's Top 100 Songwriters of All Time. Just incredible. Karin has one of my favorite voices of all time.

Good places to start album-wise are probably Drunkard's Prayer or Good Dog Bad Dog, but they don't have any bad albums, period. When you're ready to dig in more, check out Ohio (my personal favorite, but a lot of music since it's a double album), Meet Me At the Edge of the World, and The Long Surrender. If you want to hear their earlier, more band-focused stuff, Eve and Patience are both great albums, if you can find them.

Also, they make the best Christmas albums ever ever ever. Appropriately dark, pretty, and sad-yet-hopeful. Love love love this band.

You're welcome. I love them because the music is very authentic and real. No programming, no dubbing, no fake instruments, no bleeps and bloops. Everything is played by musicians (mostly Linford & Karin)...there's a lot of soul and honesty to that approach.

Comment has been collapsed.

To be honest, I did not even remember this being a k-something group. Korean music for sure, but a beautiful piece of music first and foremost, with sad-vibes that suit the topic of the discussion (actually got no idea what the lyrics are about, but it sure feels befitting of some tragic death or stg similar). Its not even my own finding, a dear friend of mine (a girl, who [contrary to me] takes attention to clips and the general presentation; a k-pop fan) sent it to me and upon listening I happened to like it.
I am usually completely unaware of any clips, images, sometimes even performers of my playlists. Not always, as strong imagery (like Starlight Brigade from TWRP) unavoidably gets associated with the given music.
Other than these exceptions, to me, the auditory experience itself is mostly the sole, exlusive point of my focus. I could not care less if the author is male, female, or even a martian. xD
If it comes to japanese girlbands, do you like Scandal by any chance? Its off-topic, but the specifics you gave reminded me of them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I just listened to Scandal and they're not bad. I was watching an anime about idols and at some point I realized that I like their songs. I don't like too sweet pop songs like love live. I think I don't like love live style because everyone has the same voice and very girly songs that are similar (but Love Live! Nijigasaki I really liked, quite different). I prefer something more crazy. rock - https://youtu.be/Xht6qmbYRD8, https://youtu.be/WIKqgE4BwAY. or maybe from anime - 22/7 are really melancholic and i love them now, zombieland saga and another. I like singing in different styles. I don't like pure pop, too pop, but some of the songs are not bad
i like these, maybe u'll like

https://youtu.be/kqNubug-iJ8 - this is really good
https://youtu.be/L6yPYjhg71k
https://youtu.be/bFEQmHKxK_Q
now I watch almost every anime about idols, because there can be good songs and groups
some anime only give you snotty pinky pop bands, but some give you a lot of choice in styles - pop, rock, electronic, rap, dubstep, dj... and it's good when the same anime has different groups in style
yes 22/7 would fit into this sad discussion

Ps- vtubers are very good idols too ♥

Very different from what you have posted, but here you go, 3 classics from (I assume) before your times:
Leonard Cohen - Nancy
Don McLean - American Pie
The Notting Hillbillies - Feel Like Going Home
A bit before my times, I'm not that old, but I think those are the top 3 in just alphabetical order. From my times and my life it would be one of 2 Solidarity bards, a bit Jacques Brel like singer:
Przemysław Gintrowski - A letter
Don't write to me about love under the southern star,
Don't lead me to the island of Poetry.
Love me here - in the country of November,
Love me in a mourning song.
There will be snow, there will be soldiers' boots in the snow
And rifles willing to fire
Into those blooming hearts, into those forbidden poems,
Into this freedom that dies again.
Don't let go of my freezing hands,
Don't let go of my my cold lips.
Tenderness is being drained away from me,
So love that faithful ice, that's left.
Do not tempt me with the light of the sea or the sun of Greece,
In my country only a tear shines.
Love me here with that curse in my throat,
Love me in this dance of death.
When anger, when the gates break wide open
And marching boots and drums all around,
In those determined faces, in those fearless hands,
In this sadness here try to believe.
Don't let go of my freezing hands,
Don't let go of my my cold lips.
Tenderness is being drained away from me,
So love that faithful ice, that's left.

What makes me sad is people just pasting links with no Artist - Song Title to go with it.
I personally find that very annoying. (just my opinion, not going on a crusade :P)

My list of sad songs in no particular order:

Sigur Rós - Ára Bátur at Abbey Road ENGLISH Translation (HD)
Tim Buckley - Song to the Siren (Tim and Jeff's story is worth a read too)
Elliott Smith - Between The Bars (Another story worth a read)
Elliott Smith - Angeles
Air - Playground Love (Official Audio)
Oasis - Sad Song (Remastered)
Damien Rice - 9 Crimes - Official Video
Damien Rice - Cold Water (Album O)
Damien Rice - Accidental Babies
The Fountain OST - Death Is The Road To Awe [HD]
Ben Gibbard - What Sarah Said (Live on KEXP)

And many more but I have to go, I might post more later.

frames/fliz is good song and 1st is soulful. I like more modern music like manchester orchestra, maybe with electronic music. old and new are very different. I grew up listening to popular foreign songs from the noughties. so I can't feel old songs enough which were popular in the west maybe. they seem good to me, but I wouldn't listen to them every day. I like old soviet songs better, but only a few of them. they have very strong sad lyrics and interesting music. nevertheless, I like something more modern

Velvet Underground - Sad Song

More seriously, though:
Chelsea Girls always struck me as sad. Also by Velvet Underground.

And a lot of songs by Tom Waits. I'll post a few, but there's a lot more by him.

Maybe the Paranoia Agent ED:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5LKs6LlsPQ

Maybe Tool, but I haven't really listened to them much, so I could be misremembering things. Same with Death Cab for Cutie.
If you like Radiohead, you might like The Talking Heads. And I do recommend checking out more Velvet Underground and Tom Waits.
Bah. I keep editing this as I read the past comments, which remind me of more songs.
