Was also wondering, hoped it would, so I could just make another account, and trade the cards I get with that account to my main. It would be kinda cheating though...

Of course it's more fair to pay for 22 cards for one game to get 5x times its set though. That's totally fair to customers and valve ain't cheating us.

cause we totally need purely cosmetic account badges made from those cards?

Nope. If it's not listed on your badge page you don't receive cards for it. Having Dota 2 beta also does not grant you cards. (you have to make a Dota store purchase)

Free to play games drop game cards based on your in-game purchasing history. If you've made purchases in-game prior to the Steam Trading Card Beta, or if you purchased TF2 prior to the Free to Play Update, you'll have 4 or 5 drops available for these games. You'll receive more card drops when you buy items in game, approximately one card drop for every $9 USD spent.

Prior. Sucks.

Yeah, I didn't read that part and made a purchase on the store to get the cards. And I don't even play Dota so it was a totally useless purchase for me. At least I can just sell it back on the market and minimize my loss. I guess once the trading card system is out of beta I'll get access to those cards.

Applies for TF2 as well?

Anything from the store.

1 decade ago

I think you can get a name tag for 90 cents and sell it for like 80 before Valve's cut.

1 decade ago
Permalink

50 cents for a cosmetic i think

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think they mention a $9 min some where for cards too drop....or maybe that is for extra cards too drop.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

apparently 9$ for each card to drop if you were premium before the steam trading cards was implemented, just wasted 75 cents :(

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's wrong, you don't have to BUY dota2. You can easily get the cards with the simplu Dota.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

+1, i didn't bought Dota2, still received card ;)

"Because Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2 are free to play games, they use a slightly different mechanism for dropping cards. In order to receive card drops for these games, you must have made an in-game purchase at some point"

Yes it is. You only pay for early access since it's still in Beta and not officially released yet. (That's if you're dumb enough to pick it up from the store while thousands of people are trying to get rid of the numerous free invites they have lying around)

Remember the 2011 winter sale, when people were making countless alts with $0.01 humble bundle keys? Yes, they could be that stupid... :)

Cause you know, Valve has control over how much HIB charges.

1 decade ago

they actually do, they forced a $1 minimum from that point on

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Can I see your source?

This doesn't indicate anything about Steam forcing them to do so.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

what? it's a good way to promote both the game and the new feature... you play the free weekend game, earn some cards, discover that you actually enjoy the game, and decide to buy it. bam

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

or you have a dozen alts idle in it without ever touching the game and sell cards

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

and? it's not like steam doesn't already have over a million of alt accounts. like i said, it's a good way to promote both the game and the new trading cards. if the game didn't attract them, the trading cards sure did.

it sucks playing TF2 because of all theese people trying to "harvest" cards without actaully playing it :(

The free weekend?

1 decade ago

Yes, the game is on free weekend now but i have the game myself not only during the weekend.

1 decade ago

Comment has been collapsed.

The question is rather, can you get the cards from playing it during the free weekend witout owning the game otherwise. It seems it's a no though.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That was my point. You can't get cards if you only own it because of the free weekend.

I know. I was just clearifying, as I got a bit confused at Inj3cTiOns response.

1 decade ago

No, you can't. You need to own the game to get the cards.

Can't get for free games unless purchased items. $9 = a card unlock. Every 30min = a card.
