Just finished playing LYNE 100%, and I'm looking for something similar to satisfy my addiction.

  • relaxing
  • tricky but not too hard (or plenty of variation)
  • Steam achievements preferred
  • preferably not mathematical (enjoyed Two Digits, but I'm not too hot on Maths says she who is a mathematician, actually )
  • not too into physics based stuff (bridge builders and stuff) or block pushers, but please do suggest if you know a really, really f´good one!

Tips?

ETA: based on the great suggestions so far (thanks all!) liking a lot:

Uhh, for some reason I've been very hesitant about the Hexcells. They look a bit like Minesweeper and I still remember those rage-quits as a first grader... But will look into them again, thanks!

Ok, that's good to know! Watching the videos, the random clicking aspect has been one of the things I've been iffy about. I think I'll go and shop, then I'll know for sure. ^^

Hexcell games are great idea from luller.
Squarecells, Unium, Paint It Back could be good additions as well

Paint It Back, YES! I know I'll like that one. Thanks, never heard of it before (unlike -cells and Unium).

Hook - it's really short (~1h to complete) but fun. :)

Circuits is pretty relaxing. Also, Sokobond is interesting as well.

Thanks for the suggestions, these were new to me. Put them on my list. :)

No problem. :) Of those two games, Circuits is the most relaxing imo. It has great sound design/atmosphere. Also, here's an article from RPS listing their top 25 puzzle games. Maybe it will help you find some others that you might like as well.

Have you tried Thomas Was Alone?

Not yet, but I have it in my library. It looks a bit too platformery to be relaxing for me (I have issues with platformers... :D). Will move it up the queue, thanks!

Try out a level or two. It's a simple platformer with really good narration. Really unique stuff, it's up to you if you like it or.

It's quite good. Definitely not as challenging as many platformers out there. :) I wasn't really sure how I'd like it at first, but it turned out to be really fun. And as adam noted, it has great narration as well.

Definitely give it a shot. I've 100%ed Thomas Was Alone (all you really need to do is beat the game, it's easy) and I found it to be a pretty relaxing experience. Certainly not a typical platformer.

Strata is a wishlist game, that I'd really like to try at some point. I'm not too big on bridge builders/physics heavy stuff. Thanks for the suggestions!

You are welcome :)
Strata is alright but very repetitive. For the likes of me it is more of an on/ off game because of that :D

Aw man, I just gave this game away today. I would have just given it to you if I'd known...I'd rather see it go to a good home, and the CV is of course minimal.

I've not played LYNE, but it looks like Splice has a similar appeal, and it's a game that I quite enjoyed.

Have you played Ichi?

Not yet, it's a wishlist game. However, it looks a bit... re-start heavy and I'm lazy. Hope to win it on a GA or something. :)

+1 Hexcells. It's fun, and if you can only get 1 version of the game, get the Hexcells Infinite. Imo, it doesn't make me rage, lol.

Yeah, I've heard the horror stories. :D That's why it's still waiting a spot on my queue... But I'll brave it someday!

It's really great. Fun and addictive, just the only game I can remember not being able to finish despite trying :)

Not a selling point here, TBH. ;)

Still crying I started Clickr. My completion rate sunk like my first captain during the cursed Sunless Sea free weekend.

I was idling for cards for Frozen Synapse Prime when to my horror there was an idiotic achievement for playing the game at either 11:11 am or 11:11 pm. My completion percentage took a hit. =(
So I feel your pain.

No, but in my dark past I did experiment with CS. I'm not proud and I'm glad I've been given a second chance at life.

KAMI

No achievements I think, but still worthwhile because it's a beautifully done game that shouldn't be missed IMO.

If you have an Android device or think you might get one in the future, the HumbleStore gives you a DRM-Free Android copy along with a Steam key:

Just thought of another:

Mini Metro

It's not a typical puzzler in that it has elements of randomness and management, but the minimalist interface and thought processes required I think would fit your criteria perhaps.

Zen Bound 2 (I think the chances are high you will love this one)
Type:Rider (Not much of a puzzle game, but more like a relaxing platformer)
Lemma
Mind: Path to Thalamus Enhanced Edition (You can grab it in a bundle right now https://www.onemorebundle.com)
FOTONICA (Also not much of puzzle, more platform, but still great. If you like it, theres also a game named Sinarun which is pretty nice)
EDGE (Another cool one, but not very relaxing)

The HexCells games are pretty good, there's a lot more complexity in the rules than in minesweeper and no guessing necessary. There's also a level generator in HexCells Infinite, so you never need to run out.
Splice is quite good, but unfortunately has a limited number of levels.
If you want a fairly easy game with simple rules, try Strata.
If you want games that are more challenging to turn into algebraic structures, try SpaceChem, Great Permutator, Prelogate, or Tricone Lab.
And I assume you know that Lyne comes out with more level sets daily, yes?
(From a fellow mathematician - I'm an algebraist; you?)
