Yesterday (well, earlier in the morning today, since I'm from Italy) I was wondering whether to buy or not Tomb Raider with the 5€ funds I gave to my alt account. Basically, I wanted to use almost all of those 5€, so when I saw Tomb Raider's base game for 4,99€ I was taking it in consideration, but still not really bothering (I prefer the GOTY, and it was 7,49€/60% off).

A few minutes ago I checked Tomb Raider's page once more just to find out the base game is now 2,99€ and the GOTY 4,49€/85% off! I'm so glad I waited!
(I'm pretty sure about it, I even checked it on Isthereanydeals' price history)

So now I'm wondering:

  1. Is Tomb Raider just one of a kind? I mean, Square Enix may have expected more from the sales and, after realizing they didn't sell enough, just lowered the price again. That would make it an exception.
  2. If not, are Daily and Flash deals just more sneaky? I know Valve introduced the new policy against flash/daily deals because that's supposed to be more fair for the publishers, but this does not explain why Tomb Raider dropped it's price twice in a row.
  3. Of course, did you manage to find more price-dropping deals like this?

EDIT

As Dakyio states:

Tomb Raider (2,99€) -85%
http://store.steampowered.com/app/203160/
Tomb Raider GOTY Edition (4,49€) -85% / 95% positive
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/49783/
Hitman: Absolution (2,99€) -85%
http://store.steampowered.com/app/203140/
Hitman Absolution: Elite Edition (3.74€) -85% / 91% positive
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/44033/
These have never been this low on steam , but in case someone wants to buy them both I'd recommend going to https://www.humblebundle.com/ and just pick up tier 3 for 8.99$ Includes both Tomb Raider GOTY Edition and Hitman Absolution: Elite Edition for almost same money and alot of extra games :D

And I'll add it for just cause 2 too, reported from Truenorth!

Thank you guys! That's been really helpful! :D
CASE CLOSED. XD

Yes, it's just a case.
No, I found more titles that happend to lower the price on the second day (23/12/2015) and there may be more on the following days.
No, I found more titles that lowered the price, but I think they are too few and this won't repeat.
It's just a glitch, it will be fixed soon.

This is a very interesting observation. Steamdb.info is also showing that Tomb Raider dropped an additional 10% price from 12/22 to 12/23.

I'm intrigued.

I'm certain Ubisoft will wait for people to buy the $30 package with Assassin's Creed: Rogue and Unity, and then drop both Rogue and Unity to $15 each (from current $30) price. They did it during the last sale.

Ubisoft disgusts me.

Good to know, I didn't mind it because of the Humble Bundle, but that's something to add to the list!

Yeah, Dakyio, down here, revealed that it's all because of the Humble Bundle itself! Prices have been lowered to match the Humble Square Enix Bundle 3 tier 2 and 3!

Thank you anyway, kind sir, for your time. :)

Already posted about it on http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/MKIVm/hidden-gems-at-the-steam-winter-sale/search?page=6#bsocCEn

I think Valve or Square Enix did it to match price @humblebundle tier 3 xD

But anyway I recommend just purchasing entire square enix hb instead :)

If the publishers can change their prices, daily deals/flash sales can still happen but in the hands of the publishers and not in Valve's...?

that'd be kind of unfair really and steam refunds would spike, not to mention the potential uproar in them doing that

I'm pretty sure Southpark wasn't on sale yesterday, but it's on sale today.

Nope, that was a glitch, I'm sure about!
The sale didn't load until a few minutes after the beginning of today's deals. That made it appear on the main page as one of the "best deals". I also commented on it being "So cheap that the price resetted to 0% off". It was supposed to be on sale but the 75% off discuont loaded very slowly!

Also, thank you anyway, we solved the mystery. ^^

ah good to know. I bought a game and found myself wondering if I shouldn't have waited for a better /flash sale even though there weren't supposed to be any. :)
