When I was a student, someone asked me to do a project for them. I put in a lot of hours, and in the end, they were like "yeah, I probably could have made that myself in Microsoft Word." Um... no they wouldn't. I even got some advice from my professor when I was doing it. He actually gave me an earful for doing it for my portfolio. I was charging them very little and my professor told me off for that. He was like "if you sell yourself cheap, people won't appreciate what you do and see your work as low grade. You need to charge them the going rate." I learned from that.
You could give people the world, and they won't appreciate it. If they have to pay for it, they appreciate it more. People are weird.

No, not that kind of project. You misunderstood.
Many diciplines use the term "project" to refer to a specific "job" they are working on. Like in this case, I was designing a 12-page brochure for a business. But, I did not charge them full price. I was a student, and was just happy to have something "real" to add to my portfolio. In the end, the guy tried not to pay me. He devalued my work because I was charging him considerably less than the going rate. But I had it in writing that if he was going to use it, he'd have to pay me. Got the idea from the prof. You think I'd ask the professor for advice on my project if I was cheating somehow? XD
And I would never help someone cheat by doing work for them. I am not that kind of person. =) I would give them advice, like a second pair of eyes, but not cheat.

People don't value free stuff because most of the time they don't have to sacrifice anything for it. If you sacrifice something for it, even if that stuff is free, you consider it valuable. For example, if you avoid consumption of too much alcohol for healthy living, you consider your health valuable (even if you are not actually paying the price of being healthy).
